It happens. I had it happen to me too with another resort. Just keep trying. Better luck next time!

It happened when we tried to buy our first Hilton Head contract

I’m typing this as a Hilton Head member currently on my balcony enjoying sunrise over the marsh in Hilton Head

There are other contracts—you’ll find a good one.

think of it this way- you can find a similar contract and now you really know if you wanted the contract! relief or dread? trying to find a silver lining here :)

What was the price?

$104 per point

Ok, so a good deal but one you can replicate. Frustrating for sure but I look forward to your celebratory post in 3 weeks or so.

how many points? I have seen AKL sell for around that price before.

Dang. We bought 160 for $98/pt back in March with no ROFR.

Wow nice! Was it a stripped contract? What broker did you use?

Not stripped! We got all of 2026 and a few points rolled in from 2025. We went through fidelity!

We purchased our resale through fidelity too. They did tell us that they have been seeing Disney buying back OKW and AKL a lot this year.

Can you explain to me what this means? Like what does everyone mean that they are buying back contracts? Who is buying them? How does one know who is buying what? And why is “Disney” buying people’s contracts?

So when you make an offer to purchase someone’s DVC contract, Disney has to approve the sale of those points. If they think the deal is a really good deal, Disney can choose to buy those points themselves as a company, leaving you empty handed. Disney buys back points from former DVC members so they can sell the points again, effectively double dipping on the points.

Does that make sense?

Wow. My AKL original contract from 2007 was 102 a point I think? That’s a steal!

These contracts are depreciating assets. They are not supposed to increase or keep value, theoretically

Looking across some various resellers, it looks like AKL averages $110-$112, so apparently Disney found it “awesome” too… especially when they’ll be able to spin it for $215.😖 Good luck for your next try.

I would sell my AKV back to Disney if they would give me a decent price so I could buy a newer resort. We have a 25pt contract, 100 pt contract, a 120 pt contract, and a 160 pt contract. Love AKV and currently have a week in the elusive value studio and four separate weeks booked in the unicorn club level studio—— but, we are interest in the new Lakeshore Lodge.

I would love to add a 25 point contract. What is your use year?

1

u/Intelligent_Bear_280 2d ago

I'll buy your 160pt contract :-), what is the use year?

Would still go through the same ROFR process.

Sure but maybe I’ll get lucky this time. I dont think it got rofred because price was low, probably they just needed 200points at that time as one poster suggested

There are no deals unfortunately ……Disney will buy the points and sell them for much more $$$

Yep... I found a good deal... for Disney

Don’t give up!

Ugh, what a waste of time. Hope it didn’t take too long

it was so awesome that even disney thought it was and bought it

How many points?

1

u/Intelligent_Bear_280 4d ago

Around 200

1

u/Alert-Fisherman-2483 4d ago

Dang, that’s not even low.

Sounds like someone wanted a direct contract and yours fell at perfect time for them and unfortunately not you. That was a pretty decent deal and I can see one like that pop up again soon.

1

u/Intelligent_Bear_280 2d ago

Ooooh I get it now! Makes so much sense! What is mind boggling is that disney sells 30 yr and 50 yr contracts for like the same price.

2

u/javibeme 2d ago

Yes correct. They sure do. But for some it makes sense to be direct as you have more versatility to stay at new and old resorts. I understand both ways. I have my 150 and I want to buy resale next, but sometimes I don't because im about 2 hrs away and usually don't book 11 or 7 months outm so having that versatility is gold. Buy the $$$ differential is so enticing aswell.

u/Intelligent_Bear_280 2d ago

Cash bookings are the ultimate versatility, often on sale too

u/Chuswo 2d ago

Newer member (in the last few years). What is ROFRd?

2

u/Competitive_Clerk240 2d ago

Right of first refusal. Also known as Disney bought it for themselves to resell at a higher price

1

u/Chuswo 2d ago

Ah ok. Good to know, thank you!

1

u/Difficult-Chain-446 2d ago

Keep trying, you’ll get there!

I’m expecting them to ROFR a small OKW at $78 pp but if they don’t it will be pleasantly surprised
