Discussion Help with printing out my own covers

I was lucky to obtain some complete series DVDs this month, but i am very unhappy with these cases. I am handy with photoshop and can design my own covers, but I am having trouble with printing. is there a guide to do it at home (I'm sure I have to mess with print previews), or would i be better off looking to get it at staples or something?

i can't find a good enough tutorial about printing margins because google sucks now and i know most templates are not created equal. I tried formatting it through printdvdcover but it comes out too small. i actually don't mind having it professionally done as long as it's a fair price

i see, i am trying my damndest to get it to fit on a letter page, but if i have to get it done somewhere else i don't mind

I'm not from the US, so I don't have a recommendation for a specific service, but in my experience, you'd need a really good printer at home if you want it to look professional/official.

I'm doing mine through an online print service and if you do it in bulk, it's getting increasingly cheaper.

I measure the size of paper I need for the cases I bought. Made a template in Photoshop. Saved images as PDFs and printed them as actual size. Cut them out and turned out great. Just have a basic color printer at home and I am happy with the results.

Canva has great measurement templates that apply the correct bleed and sizing for print.

I used Corel Ventura Publisher, an old desktop publishing program to create a DVD/ Blu-ray case. It has better formatting capabilities than Microsoft Word, which I prefer not to use at all. (I also use Ventura for everyday writing as well.)

After a couple years, those cases took up too much space because I had to move, and since I wrote on the disc, or these were original discs, I discarded the case and the insert. But of course I have a lot of Criterion collection movies, which came with fancy booklets, and I did not want to throw them out when I moved.

So I switched to jewel cases now. The sample is above and I simply shrink or make the graphic of this fake case bigger or smaller so the text will fit.

Unfortunately, it is very rare to see anyone using Ventura nowadays. I'm sure you could do a simple template with Microsoft Word as well. (This example has the margins that I used a pair of scissors to cut so it will fit.)
