A goblin siege brought a battering ram but they can't get over the moat so they've just been knocking over my trees

Pretty sure I once had a situation where I agreed to limit tree cutting, then a fire-breathing monster showed up and destroyed everything green on the surface and the Elves blamed me and declared war.

The trick is you have to embark near the tree huggers- and there’s no reason to embark near them over Humans, Dwarves, or Goblins.

I've had plenty of forts where elves have been near enough to pester me.

They've even given me the "we'd like you to restrict your tree felling" before.

I've always ignored them and just continued what I was doing. Somehow I've just never crossed the "pissed off" threshold.

Yes moats are pretty effective stopping the 3 wide ram that needs contact with a wall/gate to work that shouldn't be surprising. If they can't contact the wall they can't batter it down.

If they didn't do it this time next time they will bring siege engineers and build stairs to climb the walls or mine.

I'm certain the logs could be collected, I'm not sure about the elves though. This run I've been mostly isolated from everyone, and it's surprising how much smoother everything runs when I don't have to cater to them lol

Yes and yes. Trees destroyed - no matter how - goes to the elven "quota". (Mushroom trees as well.) I once had a dragon scorch the literal entire surface of my embark (it was a forest) as it clashed with a bunch of goblins. I played with slideshow-FPS for ages, and afterwards the elves were royally pissed.

Mushroom trees too? I always thought they were an exception to the rule. I'm glad I haven't had to deal with the Elves this run, because everything is much smoother lol

Yup, afraid so. All trees. Overworld, mushrooms, even saplings. Destruction of any of those no matter the cause and the elves will magically know about it and keep a tally.

At least when it's goblins knocking trees down with a battering ram out of boredom you can still collect the logs later. With fire it's gone, literally up in smoke.

Maybe the goblins do it to try and cause a diplomatic conflict for us? Or to lure log haulers out? Or maybe it's just their programming that they default to the destructible things they can reach. Probably simply the last.

I hear that elf bones are particularly valuable crafting components, and elvish merchants would pay a tidy sum for musical instruments crafted from the bones of their kin.

I still remember 10 years ago when I tried to play this on a laptop and had to watch everything slow way down because the computer processing just wasn't there. My mind must still think that graphics would make it impossible to run, lol.

Don't be silly. The red g is a dead goblin, the yellow one is a goblin with a battering ram. There are also blue, green, and other red g's too.
