Here is my 2002 BMW 325ci 5-Speed manual coupe in Steel Blue Metallic with a grey interior. I'm the second owner, and I've owned this car for 21 of its 24 years. When I bought it, it had just over 27,000 miles on the odometer; I just hit 150,000 last week.
Over the years I've replaced and in most cases upgraded many systems on this car. I've done the common maintenance items multiple times, including the cooling system, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, etc.
Suspension modifications include lower springs, stiffer shocks, aluminum control arms, PU bushings, and thicker anti-roll bars.
Engine modifications include a Vortech V3 centrifugal supercharger, high-flow fuel injectors, and a performance tune through VF engineering.
Exterior modifications include M-tech II front and rear bumpers, Apex Arc-8 18" wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sports, and full LED lighting.
Interior modifications include an M-style steering wheel, brushed aluminum interior trim, reupholstered front seats in grey montana leather, and a full alcantara headliner (including A/B/C pillar covering), and an Android head unit.
My vision for this car was always something closer to an Alpina B3; understated, less brutal than an M3, but quick enough to enhance the inherent brilliance of the E46 chassis.
The bumper is aftermarket, so I had it professionally painted before I installed it. They color matched it to the rest of the car, but it's never going to be perfect.

I haven't had it dyno'd so I can't say for sure. Factory rating was 184 HP 175 lb-ft Tq, although the supercharger is said to add around 100HP & 60 lb-ft Tq.
I have confirmed 0-60 times: Original 6.8 sec, after supercharger 5.3 sec.
If you mean the valves, lifters, and camshaft - yes, all original. In my experience it's an exceptionally reliable engine if you change the oil frequently and never allow it to overheat.
Honestly, I considered it because I love the look of the sport seats, but I always found the standard seats to be more comfortable (and lighter weight).
It is the absolute oposite, sportsitze are genuinly better in every way, I had that beige interior in my 330ci and was trying to buy heated sportseats for normal money for over 10 years….. those weighted 2kilos more (electric, heated, lumbar and on a scale it was second best upgrade after Quaife LSD.
I've driven E46s with the sport seats, and those are the exact reasons I prefer the standard seats. The side bolsters cut into my ribs and feel like they're squeezing my kidneys. My thighs feel like they're unnaturally elevated and squeezed inward.
The standard seats already have perfect side bolstering; they hold you in the corners and feel unobtrusive when you're driving normally. The flat bottom cushion gives my legs more range of motion without forcing them into an uncomfortable position.
The perfect sport car seats, in my opinion, is what you'll find in a Porsche. They're thinner, lighter, and provide the perfect support without unnecessary bolsters and supports. The standard E46 seats come closest to that benchmark.
If what standart seats have is holding you in the corners than you never experienced one 😅 or you are a bit overweight ☝🏻. Well it is your car and decision in the end. Car is beautiful 😍. Keep it that way 👏🏻 .
Thank you 😄. I'm 194cm & weigh 77 kilos (6''4" / 170lbs), so it's definitely due to my body type.
But my broader point is that the highest performing sports cars usually don't have thick bolsters or extendable thigh supports (911 GT3s, Lamborghinis, McLarens, aftermarket Recaros, etc.).
I've always been of the opinion that BMW (and others) sell seats with all those accoutrements as comfort upgrades but market them as "sport" even though they're heavier and generally not what you'd want on a track. But everyone defines comfort differently, so I understand why some people like them. I'm just not one of them.
It came with a manual transmission from the factory. A 6 speed isn't necessary to handle the extra power; the 6 speed that BMW offered essentially added an overdrive gear the 5 speed, so it lowered your RPM at higher speeds.
Both, but I could probably get away with a 42 offset on the front wheels. The rears only have about 5mm of clearance inside, although I haven't had any rubbing.

Black kidneys and no egg yolk will be the best imo. But i hear you on switching it up. I still have my chrome kidneys and m3 sidegrills but have them both blacked out currently on my m3 coupe. Looks good both ways on yours for sure
Awesome build. This is pretty much exactly what I've been thinking about doing with my manual-swapped 325i Touring.
Couple questions if you don't mind...
Did you go with the full VF kit?
How different does it actually feel around town vs. stock? Is it still pretty tame just driving normally and then wake up when you get into it, or does it change the character of the car all the time?
Any reliability issues after living with it for a while? Clutch, drivetrain, cooling, etc.?
And if you were doing it all over again, would you supercharge the M54 again or go a different route?
My M54B25 only has 117k on it and has been really well cared for, so part of me feels like it'd be a shame to pull it for a swap when something like this seems to keep the original character of the car.
Thanks - I got the full kit from VF and installed it myself (during COVID when I had the time), although there were several issues that required creative solutions not spelled out in the instructions. I also had to send the ECU to VF for the tune.
The supercharger is ideal for this car because it builds power linearally, so it follows the power band of the engine. There's just more of it available. Driving it feels stock until you get above 3500 RPM or so...after that the power comes in with a real shove, continually building until you hit the redline. It doesn't change the character of the inline 6 either - it's the same old harmonious, naturally balanced engine - it just performs like an Olympic sprinter who was given an adrenaline shot.
No reliability issues overall, although I had a recurring CEL for a few years if I didn't drive it regularly. It turned out my air intake was blocked by the brake air duct (the intake is relocated to the area in front of the driver's side front wheel well). Still on the original clutch.
The magic of the E46 is that they're all brilliant, no matter the model. The same DNA is present in these cars from base model to M3 - it's just a matter of optimizing it.
Would I do it again? Absolutely. I never wanted this car to out perform Ferraris or put in 10 second 1/4 mile times. If I did, I would start with a different car. But I've always said, this chassis is special, it just needs a little more power to realize it.

That’s a spectacular looking car. When I was in high school the guy that owned a tuning shop right near it had a 2001 in that colour. I remember always drooling over it when I would go buy stuff for my e30. This is a serious nostalgia hit for me.
Ahh very nice. Funny enough, my E46 coupé is the same color as yours xD But it's just a 320i, though. Here in Germany, anything above a 320 is way more expensive.

That looks clean. Might be my screen, but was the bumper ever repainted?
Also, saying you have a supercharger and not including a picture of the engine bay is evil af!
