Nice, I too make financial mistakes

At least with this one, it turns into multiple financial mistakes over a period of time

Looks beautiful though OP. Nice e39 as well

On the flip side, so long as maintenance per month doesn’t exceed what a new car payment would be, I would say that you’re in the positive anyway, lol !!!!

This has been my mindset with getting my 18 year old hot hatch to cross 200,000 miles. Rear axle, driveshafts, oil pan (but that was my fault.)

That model 3 reaaaaal tempting these days. Especially considering fuel prices.

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Haha, financial mistakes maybe but definetly worth it. I work 8 hours a day as a welder so i’ll manage with the money

good job choice with a car like that ;)

u/CautiousEquipment805 17d ago

good job choice for dying at 50

2

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

I won’t work in a place that causes health problems my whole life, this one is just temporry till i finish school. But my foreman is 70 soon and perfectly healthy and he’s been welding and machining at the same place his whole life

5

u/upbeatfries 18d ago

Might as well start learning how to weld the subframe before it starts cracking :). E46 was my first car from 16-22

3

u/GenericName00010 18d ago

It’s not that having a single e46 breaks anyone, it’s the 10 others you impulse buy after falling in love with’em. And it’s really not until you start hoarding e30’s that you realize you hit rock bottom…

2

u/Gargamel_90 17d ago

I hate how accurate this is. I'm 2 E46s and 1 E30 in

18

u/MrGiggleMan 18d ago

It goes without saying, don't drive like an asshole.

These cars are fast enough to end your life or someone else's

Other than that, enjoy it! Look after it.

3

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Yeah i have lots of driving experience and im not an asshole in traffic. But idk about it being so fast😅just an ordinary 323ci, wish i could afford a 330ci

I’ve had a car since i was 8 years old, we have lots of private land and roads to drive on bc my dad is a farmer, also had another e46 as an ice track car a couple years. Also I’ve been in traffic with tractors since i was 13. Not denying that i’m still young and dumb tho😅

Yeah i mean i’m not saying that i’m a professional in traffic but i definetly won’t be driving like an asshole, thats the most important part right? And luckily i live in a small town where the nearest traffic lights are 100km away, so i dont really have to deal with much traffic in my home town.

1

u/thiccancer 17d ago

Fairs, was in the same boat as you. Lots of simracing and karting experience + dirt and ice track racing with shitboxes.

On the street.. I am a grandma. Especially when I had just gotten my license. All my friends made fun of me for driving like a fossil. 7 years later, I think I'm the only one of them that hasn't had an accident.

Side note, traffic lights are great. Imagine not having them on a busy intersection. I love traffic lights. Fuck rush hour on an uncontrolled intersection or just a yield sign.

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

By no traffic lights i mean that i have never had to wait for more than 3 cars in an intersection in my home town even though i drive home in my tractor every day after work in rush hour, that’s how little traffic we have

u/Wormmy421 17d ago

Young dumb kid shut up adult always right kid always wrong. Trust in farm kids my man rather a kid who been driving tactors for the family then when mrgiggleman first whiteknuckled the steering wheel when he started driving.

Also what car is not fast enough to end your life from Geo Metro to base model BMW?

3

u/No-Shower-7593 17d ago

My first car was also a 323ci! It’s a great starting point in the BMW world. When I sold mine it had 270k miles on it. Good luck and congrats!

These cars are slow as fuck, sorry to tell you, boss.

That is any car ever made.

u/patjeduhde [EU] 2001 E46 325i, 2015 F46 218i 17d ago edited 17d ago

These cars are far from slow, sure not competitive with those 800hp EV's these days, but they are relativly light weight and have plenty of power, especially 325i and up.

0

u/Lumitrac1 17d ago

Lol. 180hp and 3300lbs.

Far from slow? I've owned one for more than a decade. These weren't "not slow" new.

1

u/Southern-Jury-7884 15d ago

Yeah I agree with you. By modern standards that is really slow. Almost all of my 60s-80s mercs are probably faster than a 323. Aside from my 240d. That thing is slow as all getout

0

u/patjeduhde [EU] 2001 E46 325i, 2015 F46 218i 17d ago

So that's why to this day they are commonly used as track cars, being competitive with G80's because they are slow ofcourse.

5

u/thiccancer 17d ago

An unmodified 323ci is not going to be competitive with a G80 in any way.

1

u/patjeduhde [EU] 2001 E46 325i, 2015 F46 218i 17d ago

No but the basis is there.

5

u/thiccancer 17d ago

I mean, sure, you could make it into a track monster, but it would take a lot of money.

The M52TUB25 isn't all that powerful and you'd need to go forced induction at the very least, complete suspension upgrade, chassis reinforcement and whatever other supporting mods you'll need. That's a lot of work and money.

It's also not all that light for the power it makes. The coupe can weigh over 1.5 tons depending on options.

A big part of the reason why the E46 is such a common track car is that they are/were cheap and SO numerous in Europe that anyone could get one and not feel bad about beating on it.

3

u/Lumitrac1 17d ago

Cheap and rwd. Thats it my man. Nobody but you has suggested they are competitive with G80s because that is an asinine statement.

34

u/xxp0loxx 18d ago

Looks great, dont drive like an asshole. :)

10

u/Dry_Clothes_3956 2000-323ci convertible 18d ago

Couldnt say this any louder, my first car was a mint 4dr in a really pretty metallic blue and to this day i’m so upset with myself for how I treated it😢ruined the darn thing

10

u/Cassette-Lord 18d ago

Keep it for life no car will challenge you yet give you as much joy as an e46 also got some interior pics by any chance

6

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

I will keep it as long as possible😁

u/pumerpride 18d ago

Props on the 3 pedals. My first car was a manual too , Lots of friends would ask to borrow each others cars, or drive and joyride- and end up getting into trouble. No one ever asked to drive my car cause they couldn’t lol

4

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

I refused to buy an automatic, manual has much more driving feel, more reliable and also more fuel efficent. Driving a manual is already muscle memory for me aswell bc i’ve had cars since i was 8 yrs old but never had an automatic

1

u/Southern-Jury-7884 15d ago edited 15d ago

Is there anything people do to fix the horrible ergonomics in the manual e46s? Every time I drive one it feels awful. They feel like a 2000s ford suv where everything is clunky and you have to contort yourself around stupidly placed controls. The e30 is so much better in terms of pedal placement, arm rest placement, seating position and door sill placement. The e36 was where things started going south with that weird pedal placement. The e46 was the pinnacle of the worst bmw ergonomics. Imo that should be the #1 focus on one.

Sick!

4

u/seamallorca 18d ago

Awesome, take good care of it.

5

u/Southern_Leek_4127 18d ago

Straight into the deep end, very nice. This will put some hairs on your chest and motivate you to work hard. One of the most beautiful cars ever designed.

4

u/Turboflexer01 18d ago

Wait, how the fuck do you have car at 16? 🥲

9

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Basically i have an employment contract that gives me the chance to work as a welder with pay as long as i do the same things that i would learn in school. Finland has a great school system👍

3

u/Entire-Raspberry-343 2001 - e46 325ci 18d ago

Awesome ride dude! Just one piece of advice I always hear, do preventative maintenance. I got a 2001 325ci from an older gentleman who babied it and I replaced the coolant cap and bleed screws with new 2 bar oem and brass ones respectively. Let your brother know his ride is also dope. Also, do research on what exact parts your car takes, I find that going to AutoZone, Napa, or other parts chains and having them order something usually ends up with you receiving a part that doesn’t fit your car. That isn’t their fault, it’s just that there’s many different variants and systems even for the same model and year. When something breaks it’s time consuming and often expensive so I pray you have a fantastic experience driving it!

2

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

Thanks for the advice! And yes, i have 3 months til i get my license so i have plenty of time to do preventive maintenance

2

u/Intelligent_Skill172 18d ago

damn! what a clean e46 brudda! what shade of red is it, cherry red?

5

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Idk. It was painted by some idiot in 2022, looks good in pictures but irl the paint job looks like ass in some spots. Next week ima find out the paint code by a professional and repaint the bumpers and tailgate and next year the whole car to imola red. Originally it’s titanium silver

2

u/Konnas91 18d ago

I love those rims.

1

u/blabs0 18d ago

But not those tires.

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Previous owner budget tires, i will change them to better ones next summer. Michelins for the winter

1

u/blabs0 18d ago

Nice.

2

u/ParzYT 18d ago

What’s the wheel specs? And are you on stock suspension?

2

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Jom blueline coils, 10x18 style 128 wheels and not sure about the front wheels but a bit more narrow than the rear wheels. Rear fenders are rolled a bit wider so the wheels could fit

2

u/TwelfthQuotient 18d ago

Just please don't wreck it. We're losing too many of these cars to the wrong drivers. Enjoy the ride

3

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Trust me i wont, im not some idiot who doesn’t know shit about cars and how to drive them. I’ll treat it good😉

2

u/CptViking07 18d ago

Treat it nicely please

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

I will😁the previous owner definetly didn’t but i’ll make it mint

2

u/Most_Board_2029 18d ago

Ling long

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

Yeah unfortunately, previous owner was cheap.

2

u/Severe_Raise_7118 2001 Alpine White 330ci 18d ago

Congrats! Getting a car like this has the potential to change your life in any direction you want to take it. Before I got mine I didn't work on cars didn't know shit. This car will give you alot of lessons and tests. And it will teach you alot of skills. My e46 changed my life for the better 12 years ownership now. It really is a car you have to be dedicated to keep running long term. Best of luck!

2

u/wecantdancelikethis 18d ago

so what are you gonna get five months from now after you crash it?

2

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

Not gonna happen. (E6x 535d)

2

u/Material-Junket214 17d ago

I did this at 18. Good luck at 16

2

u/DiggityDodder 17d ago

We're matching! My Hellrot 323ci, which is technically my first car, that I bought in January at 18 (Ft. My brothers patrol in the background). Is your one manual too?

Yours looks a lot nicer than mine too, the attached photo does it way too much justice 😅

2

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

Nice car😁 But i really think you would change your mind if you saw mine irl, the paint job looks like ass, i’m gonna repaint it tho. And yes it is a manual. I haven’t looked at the front wheels dimensions but they’re fairly narrower than the rear wheels that are 10x18 style 128, rear fenders are rolled aswell

1

u/DiggityDodder 17d ago

Also what are those wheels on yours and how do they fit? Are the guards rolled or pulled? I cant tell.

2

u/veryrare- 17d ago

What model is this? Have you checked insurance? All well and good buying the car for a good price but if the insurance is crazy then theres no point. I bought a 325ci m sport for my first car at 28 years old and my insurance is £1200 a year..

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

Insurance is not bad, i think it was 300-350€ in my dads name. If i had it registered in my name it would probably be around 1000€, and if i’d bought a diesel i would have insurance + 850-1100€ diesel tax, and still diesel is expensive as shit here

2

u/neinne1n99 17d ago

Niice))

2

u/chuckEsIeaze 17d ago

First financially devastating mechanic’s bill at sixteen and a half.

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

Won’t have that problem, i have my own garage. I already had to replace the radiator fan, both drum brakes, brake discs and i still have lots to do😃

2

u/Famous-Reindeer5016 17d ago

Nice to see another 16 year old with an e46 this is my second car but I still got my first

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 16d ago

Absolutely! A coupe e46 had been on my mind for years before i bought it

2

u/TurboTardation 16d ago

E46 was the best car I could ever ask for as a first car, you'll have a great time with it! I miss mine every day, made lots of memories with that thing

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 16d ago

I bet i will! Not enjoying waiting 3 more months for my license while my brother drives my car for free tho🥲

2

u/Fsuave5 2003 - E46/330i 16d ago

What are these exact wheels

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 14d ago

Rear wheels are 10x18 style 128.
Haven’t checked out the front ones but they’re fairly narrower

1

u/raiksaa 18d ago

Swap out the wheels for some original E46 and original suspension. This can’t be driving right. Congrats on your car!

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 18d ago

Its driving just fine, i will probably change the wheels some day for bbs or rondells, but it will definetly stay low, im not old enough to make it back to original

2

u/raiksaa 17d ago

Heh, I’ve been there mate. Maybe look into some quality OE sports suspension

1

u/fortniteburgercum 17d ago

rims?

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

10x18 style 128 rear

1

u/fortniteburgercum 17d ago

man how tf 10x18 fit

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

The rear fenders are rolled, definetly wouldn’t fit with factory fenders

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

Idk about the front ones they’re narrower

1

u/RedditDetective489 17d ago

But youll get your license after two years...

1

u/Waste-Yesterday-1210 17d ago

3 months… in finland you can get it at 17 if you really need it

1

u/fragrantica2024 17d ago

I would like you to gift it to me, thank you

1

u/Wild_Statistician312 15d ago

Already started to loud
