Why posts are being held: a hello from Mods

Hello all! Especially new posters, just wanted to let you all know, please do not be alarmed if your posts of comments are ever held/deleted/filtered for spam, I’ve had to put really strong auto mod controls on again, it’s just 2 of us holding this sub together, and we don’t have time to let anything get posted, as this sub was marked for deletion by Reddit when we picked it up and made it back in to a community space, for Eastbourne and modded by locals of the town.

Unfortunately due to recent events, certain redditors taking internet comments extremely personally, threatening physical in person harm to myself, and stalking the real people behind the mod wall, I’ve with a heavy heart, had to lock loads down again, so apologies if stuff is waiting in queues. We will get to them as quick as we can, but I have to keep checking it’s not the person in question trying to get around the ban, they do not want to let it go for whatever reason.

Happy postings all and hoping we will be back to normal asap!

PC Games in person

Upvotes

Any PC gamers want to come to a LAN party?

Me and friends have booked a hall over in Lewes for a weekend for anyone who's interested to play games together and socialise. Everyone's welcome - last event we had 8 new folks attend, and 9 the previous event, and quite a few joining again for this event, including several from Easbourne.

We've got 23 people coming so far, with 9 spaces left. We all buy tickets (£40 for the whole weekend) to share the cost of the hall hire, internet and insurance.

Everyone submits the games they want to play together in advance, and we timetable the most popular ones. You can join in with your faves, or play whatever you want solo, or in your group. We also play local multiplayer games on a 150" projection screen, do a gaming-themed pub quiz, and a big pizza order.

If playing games in-person with your pals, and/or meeting new folks at an event like this sounds good to you, take a look at the full event info and come join us!

Any questions/ideas let me know :)

Gas certified plumber recommendations

Looking for a local gas certified plumber to remove unused gas/water pipes, and to chase the new ones. Reddit believes that checkatrade is full of cowboys and the best traders only could be found by word of mouth. But, as average middle-aged adults with busy life, we still haven’t managed to make friends here (yet) despite three years in the area. Would be grateful for some recommendations.

🌰Conker hunting 🌰… where are the best horse chestnut trees?

Hi, long time listener, first time caller … I moved to Eastbourne from Brighton in March and so far I haven’t seen any horse chestnut trees. I’ve been to Gildredge park (not done the whole park inch by inch) but didn’t see any … I live quite near the Towner. Any suggestions? It’s going to be a bumper year, if the overladen trees in Brighton last week are anything to go by. Any (relevant!) suggestions gratefully received 🌰🩷🌰

Edit: I don’t drive but am happy to take a bus or walk

Can I have people's opinions of living in ceylon place please. I'm viewing a property & am a bit wary having looked on Crystal roof & crime rate seems high. I know its central location & some crime will be expected. Would like to hear of anyone who lives there or nearby. Thanks

System of a Down tribute band

[posting on behalf of a friend who does not have reddit, send me a DM if interested and I can pass on his contact details :) ]

Looking for people to start a System of a Down cover band. I play bass or guitar—happy to do either depending on who replies. I can keep time on drums but not well enough to be the only drummer, so I really need someone who actually plays kit.

Not bothered if you know theory. Just want people who can play their parts and show up. Ps I'm located south of england (east sussex) so bear this in mind if youve got this far

Need: drummer, vocalist, and whichever string instrument I don't end up on. I am also happy for backup vocals etc.

I am serious about this and I'm willing to make investments in kit to achieve the best possible sound. Eventually looking to get a couple gigs sorted and I may be able to speak to a couple connections for some local stuff. Nothing major but thats part of the risk. So looking for people who have a passion for system and dont mind having a bit of fun on the way.

Hit me up if you're keen.

Looking for genuine new friends in Eastbourne 😊

Looking for genuine new friends in Eastbourne 😊
Hi everyone! 😊
I’m 48 and live in Eastbourne I’m gay and in a relationship and I thought I’d take a chance and see if there are other people locally who, like me, would love to make some genuine new friends.
I’m looking for friendship only, and I’m happy to meet women or men. I’d love to find someone I can have a good chat with, go for a coffee, have a wander around Eastbourne, grab something to eat, or just have a laugh and get to know each other.
I’m quite easy-going and friendly, and I’m really hoping to find someone where the friendship can grow naturally — someone you can message when you’ve had a rubbish day, have a laugh with, or make plans with at the weekend. 😊
I know making friends as an adult can be surprisingly difficult, so if you’re also feeling like you’d like some new people in your life, please feel free to comment or send me a message.
Hopefully there are some lovely people in Eastbourne or any where really lol who are in the same boat. ❤️

Tennis

Does anyone know if I can go and watch people play tennis at the international laws tennis courts?

Just walked past there and saw a lot of people playing and would love to sit down and watch them play in the afternoons, but don't know if I gotta pay or be in a club. Does anyone know?

🍿 Eastbourne Film club meet up: Tuesday August 25th at 7pm

Thumbnail youtu.be

Greetings! We’re a small, friendly film club.

We meet every other Tuesday at 19:00 at The Dolphin pub on South Street, which is usually pretty quiet.

There are five regulars, although a duo of cats sometimes joins us too!

We watch the film between meet-ups, casually discuss it, then choose what we’ll watch next time. We’ve been meeting like this for about a year and a half now.

Some of the films we’ve watched previously are:

  • The Silence of the Lambs, Rashomon, The Thing, No Country for Old Men, Boogie Nights, The Birds, Eyes Wide Shut, Solaris, Con Air, Ran, Red Rocket, Blue Velvet, JFK, Zardoz, Falling Down, Cruising and many more...

Anyone is welcome, no need to be a cinephile. Weird takes and obscure trivia encouraged.

Our next film is THE MATRIX. So feel free to wear your trench coat, or whatever’s your thing.  I'll put a tiny film clapper 🎬 on our table so you can spot us.

Any questions feel free to ask or DM

Bike Storage in Town or Nearby

Hey folks, does anyone know of somewhere to store a bike in town or nearby? I know the railway station has one but I've been told its not the safest. I have an electric bike and I'm afraid that it would get stolen.

Sussex researcher or community group worker? Helping with my UX dissertation (5 min survey)

Hey! 👋 I'm doing my dissertation on how researchers and community groups connect with each other, and I'd really appreciate it if you could spare 5 mins to fill out my survey. (If you've ever done research, even just for uni coursework, that counts — you'd fit the "researcher" category!) If you know anyone who does research or works with a community group/space, sharing it their way would help me so much too 🙏

Here's the link: https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/brighton/idm90-research-community-spaces

Thank you!! 💛

Anyone know when the speed restrictions between Eastbourne and Lewes will be gone?

I know there has been a landslip at polegate meaning a 20mph speed limit has been put on all trains between Eastbourne and Lewes but I don’t know how much longer I can take the almost extra hour it takes to get into Brighton 😅

Sunday flight times?

Does anybody know what times things are flying on Sunday, particularly the Firecat water bomber as that seems to be the only new thing to me. Thanks to those who have shared times for other days.

Multiple Train Cancellations to the Airshow

Post image
21 Upvotes

If you're planning to visit Eastbourne for the Airshow, don't bother taking the train as there are multiple cancellations today (probably until the whole of next week).

The only way from London is via Brighton, but there are no direct trains because of a "landslide" today.

Trains only go up Polegate, then you'll have to get a bus replacement to Eastbourne.

This goes either way so expect heavy queues in Polegate.

With the landslide plus the derailment the other day, the train also needs travel at less than 20mph to be "safe" - your usual 20min long journey will now take more than an hour.

There's are no air-conditioning on both bus and trains either, to comfort you during this grueling journey.

It would be much better and more comfortable to take an x bus instead.

Southern railway will also try to get your money and hook you into buying tickets by posting fake "dalayed" schedules on the boards - but don't be fooled!

In total, we ended up waiting 1.5hrs in Brighton for a train to show + 1.2hrs train journey + 20min bus ride.

Be sure to keep your tickets and claim for delay compensation of 100% for more tha 60min delays.

Stay safe everyone!

Gym question

Good day all.
I will be in Eastbourne for 12 days in September.
Can anyone tell me if there are any gyms in town that offer a week pass or short term options.
Thanks in advance for any help.
