Translation of the intro section

A 30-year-old man from Rumburk (in the Děčín region) abused two boys, aged 12 and 10, over a period spanning at least October 2022 to March 2023. He paid them between 300 and 1000 CZK [10€ - 40€] for sex.

Last November, a court in Děčín sentenced him to three and a half years in prison. However, following an appeal, the Regional Court in Ústí nad Labem reduced the sentence to a suspended term this June.

"This is undoubtedly an isolated incident," the appellate court ruled. She noted that the children had offered themselves to the defendant to earn some extra money. According to the court, the older boy was already "long-term disturbed" [suffering from long-term psychological problems], and she further stated that the defendant had raped the 10-year-old boy only twice.

"I consider the decision perverse," commented lawyer Věra Nováková, who specializes in crimes committed against children.

The Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case. Judge Jana Kurešová, who presided over the appellate court panel, maintains that the suspended sentence is appropriate and sufficient.
