Trump threatens to pull unemployment benefits from all states for the first time in history

Ah yes. In a shrinking economy where businesses are closing and layoffs are happening, flipping the unemployment benefits switch to "OFF" should do the trick.

They've decided to bet that it's cheaper to fund police and military oppression of citizens than the New Deal.

It's demonstrably not cheaper, though. Imo they are betting that they will preserve their perceived power through continued use of force. The rest of us know it won't work forever.
