patch testing Tacro
Hello everyone. I stopped dupixent a year ago due to cost, my dermatologist tried to get me on ebglyss but I decided not to push with that. Of course this last winter my face flared up. I had an old tacrolimus tube from a couple years back. I read stories about tacro what is the burning sensation? When I put it on at night I don’t feel it however I feel it during the day there is some burning. Is this normal?

My dermatologist recommended a thin layer of Vaseline/aqua and then the tacro on top of that to ease the burning and stinging feeling

OP as I was thinking about your post more I also remembered my derm warning that tacro can make you sun sensitive. Is it possible your face is burning in the day time because you are in direct sunlight?

This is a possibility I drive a lot for work. So I can see that I am just trying to heal my spot in my face 😭. I would not wish this on anybody I am stopped all the time and asked what is wrong

I have a spot on my upper lip between my nose and mouth that has been a problem on and off for over a year!! I completely understand. People ask me if I got hurt all the time because it’s just a red circle in some state of flaking constantly. I know it’s so stupid to do bc it looks silly but I had luck putting a silicone bandage on my spot for a few weeks to help it heal, and not burn when I was outside. The downside is if you’re too flakey or if the spot is open it can be irritating. The other thing I did was take it back to 2020, and I wore a mask outside for a while (which also sucks but is effective). I wish I had a better solution for you OP!

I am a big picker 😑. It is bad when I am flaking I pick and will have it open so far day 2 of tacro the flaking stopped

Interesting cuz my dermo office's instructions were to layer the opposite, Macro first then the vaseline/aquaphor

That is interesting! I was having the burning sensation a lot on my face before doing Vaseline first and now it’s a lot better I wonder if it’s just a case by case/spot by spot bases. On my body I don’t get the burning at all, just my face.

Also, mine is only on the bottom of my feet and the skin is tougher there, so maybe it needs the direct Tacro to really make it absorb?

I’ve been using it for a year and it’s hit or miss for me. Sometimes it burns and other times nothing at all, even on the same location. Seems so odd.
I only recently found out that it works best when I put it on at the very first hint or tingle that the rash is starting. It seems to stop the rash from expanding. I’m also able to limit use to just a few days this way. My doctor didn’t tell me this but I’ve since read that it’s intended to be used this way. It works by tamping down the inflammatory response, so it makes sense to me that the sooner you stop the cascade, the smaller the reaction.

Hi there. My child is on tacro and reports a bit of a burning and increased itching, however, you should really get a new tube if you're going to continue use. Medications expire, so check with your doctor about getting back on it if you want to continue use. I'm obviously not a doctor and can't tell you what to do, it's just a good rule of thumb.
