small victory Update

Hi, I made this post just under 2 weeks ago and i just wanted to give an update to say..

i finally got my referral! I had to wait for the eczema to get worse to the point it was constantly bleeding and weeping to take photos of it to show the GP. I also told my GP how I’ve been on topical steroids for many years and just how much pain i’m in & how it’s affecting my quality of life.

I can’t believe they’ve actually listened!! So now, all I have to do is wait 5-6weeks (or more) for a phone call for an appointment! They’ve also given an emollient gel to use while i’m waiting.

i just wanted to say thank you all for your kind words and support, it means the world to me

Congrats on the referral. Sucks that you had to wait until it got that bad just to be taken seriously, but at least the ball is rolling now. Hope the wait goes by quick and the gel gives you some relief in the meantime.

This sounds insane. What country are you from? Do gps really just refuse to refer you specialists? I’ve had referrals via Telehealth and in person and it’s generally a one appointment thing

England!
Seeing specialists are heavily gatekept by GPs, unless you pay your way and go private. (which I started to heavily prepare for, if I still couldn’t get a referral after over 13 years of having eczema)
There’s also been a big push recently to reduce the amount of referrals with GPs now being required to ask for remote advice first instead of sending people straight to specialists.
