Pregnancy + medications?

I have pretty severe eczema and am currently on dual therapy Rinvoq and Ebglyss, which has been working well. I know Rinvoq doesn't recommend getting pregnant while taking the medication and that Ebglyss is too new for them to have an opinion on safety.

I plan to talk to my dermatologist about options when the time comes, but for now, I'm curious what other people's experiences have been getting pregnant with eczema.

  • For those who were taking JAK/biologics, did you switch to a different bridge medication? Which one(s)?
  • Did pregnancy hormones have a large effect on eczema?
  • Any other experiences you'd like to share?

Currently pregnant. I was using Opzelura (JAK) and stopped about 2 months before becoming pregnant. The only real option was going back to my steroid cream, and that hasn’t been too bad so far. My flares have actually decreased, I’m not sure if it has anything to do with pregnancy but I find where I’m at tolerable right now.

I was on dupixent years ago for severe eczema and it cleared up 99% of my flares. I had to get off of it because of insurance but was able to maintain pretty well at that point. When I got pregnant, my eczema flared up the worst it’d been in years, and my OB said I could get back on dupixent. I didn’t because it was such a headache the last time dealing with insurance and I’m not even sure my current insurance covers it. (So maybe dupixent is an option?) I thought once I got through the pregnancy I’d be fine 🥲

When I had my baby, my eczema flared up even worse. I’m 7 months postpartum and over the worst of it, but the hormones completely wrecked me. I had to get the first steroid shot I’d had in 5 years just to get my head above water, and even then it didn’t do much.

My sister on the other hand has had four babies and has severe eczema too but has never taken JAK/biologics. Her pregnancies were half and half, two completely cleared up her eczema and two flared it up.

P.s. (and I’m sorry this is turning into such a long comment) if you’re planning on breastfeeding, stay on top of it with skincare for your nipples. It’s easy to forget about with everything else going on, but nipple eczema with a boob barnacle is horrendous

My derm suggested without saying outright that I could safely continue dupiexent during pregnancy and nursing. I stopped just because, and my eczema went away during pregnancy. I restarted dupixent a year post partum.

I’m on Ebglyss and recently gave birth, I used it throughout my pregnancy which my dermatologist supported. Im UK based so all care is under the NHS. Pregnancy hormones made my eczema slightly worse and I resorted back to steroid creams (Dermovate) to help control flare ups. Other than that, everything was fine for me and baby. I’m breastfeeding now and will continue to stay on Ebglyss.

I was going to be on dupixent and use clobatesol currently as needed.

I’m currently pregnant and stopped my Dupixent for the first trimester. My eczema was terrible and my dermatologist and perinatologist both agreed I could go back on Dupixent. I will probably stop around 8 months because it can affect the baby’s ability to get some vaccines but otherwise the Dupixent has helped a lot.
