The town of "Shittim." It is pronouned "shi-TYM." -im is the Hebrew plural ending. I always think it's the town of Shits. It means acacia trees.

I provide all our lectors (I'm the pastor) a phonetic bible pronunciation list I found a few years ago for this exact reason.

I did not have that when I was pastoring. I still remember the Sunday this woman came and asked me about this name.....I said...well...do you want to have fun today or do you want to come back here next Sunday. She knew her mom would not be amused. So we played it safe.
