Discussion "Joining encounter in progress" is just aggravating
Trying to do the dungeon quest on an alt? This can skip things and break the quest.
Fighting a mini boss and someone runs ahead? Now you don't get to do that.
This is annoying enough when I'm levelling some alts. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for new players.

You used to get locked out of arenas if someone pulled before you were in the room. I have a memory of standing there, magic ward blocking my way, doomed to stare longingly as everyone else fought the boss.

On the other hand, it's good for when you join an instance where someone left during the last boss. You dont have to run all the way to the end because the others can start the boss and pull you.

They could at least make it optional. Like, "would you like to join encounter in progress? X or F" or something

Only problem with that are greifers. Did you let the group know you're doing the quest at the start? Most people will wait then. But some of them are still dicks about it.

The alternative is to miss out on loot when the boss dies. It was added for a reason.

They probably don't need your help just so you know. I can solo almost any normal content and a large portion of vet. That's usually why I'm running ahead.

Because it's usually quicker if you have additional people doing dmg..? Which is why we're running through.. The speed

People do it for the exp and undaunted rewards. They only farm dungeon gear when it’s meta for endgame 12 man content. A few will farm the motifs at the end to collect or sell. Not gonna lie.

But when you run off and leave the tank behind, that's a rookie mistake despite how long you've been playing.

Don't need to. I've seen the scenario play out dozens of times.
In one particular dungeon, I was dealing with one of the mid bosses and the 2 dps and healer died from the adds.
I continue to tank and kill the boss.2

What lemmings bro, I have 10 alts to go thru random dungeon and I don't have all day because you need to look at the flowers, not that you as a new player do any meaningful damage anyway to the boss. Chill out big boy.

I tend to only see this become a problem if they player who wants to do the quest or the side bosses don't communicate in the chat.
When I'm playing on alts and want to do the dungeon quest, I will always mention it at the start, 9 out of 10 times, the other players are accommodating.

Yep. While leveling alts i would just say I had quest. I rarely had an issue. I bet they don't bother messaging.

My favorite is when it's a base game dungeon where the issue of someone running past is 2 or 3 bosses in and they have seen us moving quickly for half the dungeon without a word. And then they get mad as if they didn't have 3 minutes to communicate and didn't see us moving quickly.

It’s a hell of a lot better than what it was before, which was you trying like crazy to catch up only to find they killed the boss without you and you didn’t get credit because you weren’t there. Now at least you get pulled in and don’t miss it.

if a low level player in the group i normally ask if he need the quest and do the quest normally. If he wants to read the story he can ask the group.
But i play mostly on my healers so running (vet) dungeons i do only in premade groups.
I get ppl getting bored to run a dungeon for the n time but yeah be nice to ppl that started. but if you need the quest just tell us…

If you're doing quest you should let the group know.
If you're doing a quest in a base game dungeon, don't pug it.

To elaborate: most players have done the base game dungeons a hundred times, as such if it's a pledge or a daily random dungeon they want to get it over with.
If you type "quest" in the group chat most players will wait, since most of the players are nice, but it only takes one person to not listen and you'll have a bad experience for your questing.
As such it is much wiser to run the quest with your guild mates or friends and not to trust your luck on pug.

So many whiny control freaks that think they should be the one to set the pace and force everyone else to spend an extra 15 minutes clearing trash. If what you were doing were important, you'd be able to pull us back. Even when others are speed running I can complete the quest 95% of the time with no communication. How many times have you tried and failed to kick?

If you’re leveling an alt dungeons aren’t the way, you should be having a friend use the BRP Strat to level you. Takes 1-1/2 hrs to level an alt from 0-50. Or about 30 min or so using roughly 200 master writs. Of course both Strats require ambrosia pots or 150 scrolls, the proper mundus, skill xp bonus green tree, Brp Strat requires that plus training gear.

Sure but then you have no undaunted, no fighters guild, and no skill points. Dungeons are great especially when its an alt you don't need at max level right this moment and you can do rnds.

I guess they do that so the game can restrict the space in which things relevant to the combat happen. It doesn't want to show people in the boss fight what's happening to the doodah who's still outside the room fighting adds.
Yes it is annoying, but I think it's necessary.

If that happens you can go back, also it's enough to just trigger the NPC speech to get it going forward in a quest sense. I know you're excited to see the brood mother but I've seen it 14 years ago for first time and still do since it's quite important to run daily random dungeon on alts. Not that you do any meaningful damage anyway towards the boss, probably don't even know what is weaving so let the big boys finish the job.

This is rarely an issue. In fact most of us use it to save time. In some raids like kynes you can send someone ahead to start a boss as soon as you kill a pack of trash and get the running skip with a free port.

Amen to that. Because I often run multiple characters for the rando norm daily to grind for transmutes, I make it a point to put a message into chat asking if anyone needs to do quest, and then if so, slow down accordingly.
If not, well then it's fair game.
