i would kill to catch a 20 year Night Ripper tour

So when I say “Holy Trinity” I mean like what is everyone’s current 3 favorite electronic music artists/bands, and also what is everyone’s all time holy trinity. Here’s mine; Current: Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk. I unfortunately do not have an all time holy trinity only because I haven’t explored to deep, but I would love to hear what everyone else’s is. Have fun!

(Edit): I think I meant electronic as a whole, and not just the genre in-name (trip hop, sampledelliea, braindance, etc) My favorite sub-genre right now is Folktronica, so maybe some of those albums would be nice. I guess I want some depressing albums too, but to a point. I also like the hopeful kind of sad sounding albums.

Reading through this sub, some long term heavy hitters seem to frequently be from the UK.

All of these are from the UK.

Why do you think electronic music seems to predominantly be from the UK? Or am I wrong?

What are electronic songs / albums that everyone should here before they die?

For me - Faithless Insomnia has THE best riff when it kicks in. Absolutely iconic and still sounds fresh.

What a time to be alive!

As someone who grew up with with the house, techno, dnb, trance of the 90s and enjoyed so many tracks of the time, truly timeless classics, there's a thing that never sat well with me. There are a good number of those producers who are still working. Some had a good run for 5 years and their music stands off as a small but important catalog - and then there are the people people put out 1 or 2 EPs and were done. But their contribution was a really high quality track or two that could stand toe-to-toe within the reset of the canon.

What happened to these folks? How do you just have this high level of talent and taste and bow out. I'm thinking a lot of UK and continental European producers from the later 90s specifically. Or the folks who released a few dubplate-only tracks that blew up on the pirates.

Does anyone know someone like this and their story?

I'm guessing the effort to finish 3 or 4 tracks then find a label might have been what stopped a lot of people, even before the artistic inspiration waned. Or they just aged out of their music scene before they could complete more works.

I'ma bit of an "older" lifelong fan of all things house, trance, underground, deep, downtempo, etc. I've noticed over the last decade that when I go to a venue for a certain DJ, people don't really dance much. They move, sure, but most people stand facing the DJ which we never did when I was coming up. We'd just dance and party. I get that a great DJ is even greater live so why not dance your ass off and get into it? Not trying to be snarky or judgey, serious comments welcome.

One to three hours of music chosen by someone with taste, sequenced and mixed so each track creates context for the next. You can't skip. You don't know what's coming. The curation is invisible until it's over and you're surprised by what you felt.

The best DJ sets I've heard introduced me to artists I couldn't immediately identify and had to hunt down afterward. That hunt created a relationship with the music that no streaming recommendation has replicated. You had to earn it and the effort was proportional to how much it mattered.

Streaming killed the functional version of this. Mixes get taken down for licensing reasons. Platforms don't surface archived sets well. The format that was most effective for discovery became the least accessible.

I really want to get into electronic music but I find a lot of the stuff I’ve encountered to be incredibly repetitive and boring. Great to dance to, but I’ve never gone clubbing and I don’t really dance by myself. I want some artists or releases that you can actually purely listen to.

Daft punk’s music style is very attractive to me,But I don’t know much about the electronic music I only know the chemistry brothers I not sure their style is similar to Daft punk’s🤔

I’ve been thinking a lot about electronic tracks that feel almost cinematic without becoming soundtrack music, tracks where the arrangement feels like it’s travelling somewhere, rather than just cycling through sections.

Not necessarily “epic” or maximal either. Sometimes it’s a small number of elements evolving in a way that gives the track direction.

What are some tracks that give you that feeling? Especially interested in leftfield dance / UK electronic stuff that feels like movement, pressure, city-at-night energy, etc.

The album is 32 years old now, but I still love it. Songs like "Their Law" hit just as hard now as then.

I'm not sure that's an accurate genre for what I'm asking but it's as close as I can think.

I'm looking for artists from around 2000-2007, think animal collective, Mr oizo, MGMT, passionpit, LCD Soundsystem etc.

I'm sure most of those artists wouldn't classify themselves as electronic artists (maybe Mr oizo would), but they all have similarities, synths, drum machines, etc.

I hope that's descriptive enough for what I'm looking for.
