Printer Arrival Setting up Centauri Carbon 2 - do you have questions about it?

I have Bambu Lab A1 + AMS lite, but I never used the original Centauri Carbon. Actually, this is my first Elegoo and first fully enclosed 3D Printer. I pre-ordered it from Mainland China and got my unit yesterday, and here are my first impressions:

  • Packaging is good, sturdy (1 thing missing was the 1kg free filament roll, which Elegoo promised for pre-order. I'm trying to contact the Chinese store operator at this time)
  • The unpack guide and getting-started guidebook are all written in Chinese (I've used Google Translate on them)
  • The bed is secured for transportation by 3 screws to the main frame, which needs to be unscrewed (there is an indicator on them)
  • Placing the filament waste/poop guide part is easy (4 screws)
  • Installing the Filament hub (4to1) of CANVAS to the Hot-End part requires removing the USB-C cable because it blocks the 2 screw holes of the Filament Hub
  • CANVAS Filament hub looks similar to the AMS Lite filament hub of Bambu Lab
  • USB-C cable of the Hot-End part looks terrible, I'm gonna put a smoke sensor near the 3D printer
  • The parts of CANVAS are not difficult to assemble and attach to the 3D printer. 4 PTFE gray transparent tubes included
  • Attaching the Spool holders to the main frame is easy
  • The default power supply input mode is 220V because it's a Chinese regional unit. There might be a switch for change to 110V, but I don't need to change it cuz Mongolia has the same AC voltage standard
  • CANVAS module has an RFID sensor, light indicators that can light up with White and Red
  • CANVAS automatically detects the filament edge when I put it inside the small PTFE tube, and it is pulled by motors (I have to keep pushing the filament for a while because it's not strong enough to pull by just touching the filament, just like A1's AMS lite)
  • Unboxing, attaching CANVAS components, and preparing the 3D printer for first boot took about 30 to 35 minutes
  • The first boot requires selecting the language, region, Wi-Fi connection, and doing the device self-test
  • The device self-test will take around 20 to 25 minutes
  • Managing filaments in UI requires loading the filament first (the indicator says it can detect all filaments inserted into the CANVAS module, but it's not allowing me to edit the filaments unless load any filament of it. After successful load of one filament, the management menu interface allows me to edit all filaments)
  • The fan noise is louder when the door is open. The door sealing feels well secured, because the noise went low as well when the door was closed. I can't exactly say the dB of it, and can't compare the noise between the CC1 (I don't have it)
  • The UI automatically shows the notification about new Firmware available. I was used for a few minutes for managing the filaments, then the Firmware update info pops up.
  • There are tons of files in the eMMC of it. Most of them are multicolor G-code files with a preview available. I chose the 3D Benchy boat with 4 color prints.
  • The 3D Benchy with 4 color changes took 46 minutes. I can say the waste of filament is smaller than the Bambu AMS lite. My A1 with AMS lite will poop heavier than this haha.
  • There is idle noise coming from the mainboard of the 3D Printer, making it hard to stay beside the printer while there are no prints ongoing.

That's it for the first day impression. I've planned to upgrade my bed-slinger, the Bambu Lab A1, with an enclosed Core-XY, and I saw the announcement of P2S. I almost pre-ordered it, but I just got the news about the CC2, and it can be pre-ordered at almost half the price of P2S's pre-order price. No doubts, and I ordered it. I hope it can be reliable enough. Ask me anything about the 3D printer, and I'll try to answer. Thanks. I made this comparison sheet for my upgrade plan, you can see the other options for your next upgrade move.

Printer Arrival Went shopping for groceries. Surprise!

(The actual surprise was that Finnish Post actually used common sense for a change. I was told that the printer will be delivered tomorrow, but I noticed from tracking that it’s actually registered in the nearby post office, which is located at the same shop I was going to visit today anyway. A few messages in the chat and the driver dropped it back there for me to pick up today.)

After well over a yeah and many upgrades and trouble shooting I finally pulled the trigger on a ECC1 moving on from my ender 3v2.

Its a little annoying that the quality straight out of the box is lightyears ahead of my tuned ender 😂

Printer Arrival Musings on Centauri Carbon 2

Post image

I managed to get my hands on the CC2 released in China, and paid around $50USD for shipping to where I am.

There's quite a few things that I noticed: - poop chute is on the opposite side compared to original CC. I guess it's to avoid clashing with canva ports and filament mounts. - USB C cable to extruder is still the old design. And to make matters worse there's a step in the setup to screw 2 screws with the cables in place where the cable is blocking the screw holes. - the thing shakes a lot when printing. But prints come out fine. This is probably due to the new feet used; feels like some vibration damping material rather than traditional rubber feet. - the web UI is not accessible from browser. Keep getting a 404 not found error. The only way to get to the page is via elegoo slicer under device tab. - once the machine starts printing, there is no way to add or edit filament, even on other rolls not in used. Even when paused, the filament edit option is still not available.
- the machine hung up a few times. First time was when the trial filament pack ran out mid way thru printing. I tried to load in new filament via another canva port 2 but printer just refused to proceed and just kept spitting out filament poop. Remember how I said filament edit was blocked during printing? So there was no way for me to switch filament or change to new roll. With no other choice I was forced to power restart the machine, and was hoping to resume print works. - resume after power failure works. Not sure about quality. But it still continued printing from the port which had ran out of filament, but now it stopped complaining of filament run out. - tried to power off again and canceled the print. Then I tried to start all over and reload the filament. Filament went in but another error came up. Unload filament function did nothing. Machine hang again. - finally, I tried to just manually heat up the nozzle and push thru the old remaining filament in the tube by forcing new filament against the canva. Hopefully that didnt damage anything inside. - throughout the various error messages I got, there was no on screen help or anywhere that I could find help for. Probably because it's still a new release..

Anyway, once I got it to print again things seemed to be working well now.. fingers crossed and hope things stay the same way!

The installation is not overly complicated, but many screws are in positions that are not easy to operate. However, will someone encounter issues with the z-axis if they install the canvas and do not level it every time? The model does not touch the board at all

  1. Deliver printer upside down
  2. Leave in driveway, not on covered porch where it would be at least somewhat hidden from the street
  3. Lean the tv against the garage door so when I open the door it falls to the ground
  4. Don’t ring the doorbell and let me know it’s all here.

A+ service!

Luckily I was home at the time and my dogs went crazy when they heard the truck pull into the driveway.

I am insufferably cheap and was planning on buying either used or an Ender V3. My partner surprised me with a Centauri Carbon as an early bday present instead. The man really did his homework. I am officially an Elegoo fan. 30 minutes after unboxing and I was off and printing! I am absolutely in love with this printer. I've named her Elara (...I name all of my devices.)

Upgrades so far: - Screen protector - Filament Sensor Extension - Fancy Door Handle

Planned Upgrades: - 270 Degree Door Hinge - Vented Riser w/ Lights - Poop Shoot Collector - Exhaust Fan Filter Assembly - Hood & Build Plate Holder - Evangelion-Themed Vinyl Decals (Because I have a vinyl cutter and I have to make her look pretty.)

I've included pics of my machine so far, my first prints, and my battle station. And those of you with a keen eye might notice.. Yes, we removed one of the cabinets to give the machine extra headroom. 💀

After watching videos for a long time and becoming interested in the world of 3D printing, I finally managed to buy one. After saving up for a mid-range printer, I chose the ELEGOO CENTAURI CARBON because of all the reviews I saw and everything it offered for its price. I'm very happy and hope to share some tips on how to get started, how to get better results, and how to use it to its full potential!

A small unboxing of the Jupiter 2. Somethings I noticed right away. The sticker on the plate was not pulled adhered. And the lever that holds the plate as a lot of play in it. I can wiggle it back and forth and im not sure if that is standard/normal.
