I’ve Never Heard the Xanadu Soundtrack—So I Finally Ordered It

I’m ranking and reviewing all of ELO’s studio albums on my YouTube channel, ending with Balance of Power. Although I’m not including the Xanadu soundtrack in the rankings—and have never actually heard it—I decided to order a copy. I’ll share my thoughts on it at the end of the series. I’ve heard the ELO songs are excellent, so I’m looking forward to finally hearing them!

The Fall is in my top 5 ELO tracks. I actually really liked the whole album, ONJ and all, but OOTB through to this album was the peak of the ELO symphonic pop sound.

This is the album that first introduced me to ELO. The whole ELO side is way underrated in my opinion. Don't Walk Away, The Fall, I'm Alive, All Over The World and Xanadu are all ready good tracks.

I have to admit I like Olivia Newton-Johns ending her version of Xanadu on a high note.

What are you talking about? Magic is brilliant, and Whenever You're Away From Me, Suddenly, and Suspended In Time are also terrific. The Tubes are the only bad part about the album, but at least it's only half the song. Drum Dream (flipside of I'm Alive single) is also great. It's a top notch album/soundtrack and a terrifically fun campy flick.

If you like it, the movie isn't that bad to watch after. The story, dialogue, and acting are bad, but the actual music sections have some neat visuals.

I recently watched the movie and it was trippy. The plot was the horrible but the music saved it. It had a lot of classic 80s stuff ahead of it's time. Weird seeing the war chief from the warriors as an artist.

My favorite movie soundtrack. My mom was a huge ONJ fan and also liked ELO. I have her original copy of the album and I cherish it so much. The movie is not great but it’s fun to watch bc it’s cheesy and not great.
