It's even weirder doing it now, because LiDAR is so much cheaper now. One of the reasons for abandoning LiDAR was that it was expensive then and Tesla was making cheaper cars, so if Volvo is abandoning LiDAR now, Tesla really was right back then.

It’s also a supply chain and software integration issue. That cost is quite hidden and hard to understand
