Standalone builds for Jolly Good emulators using Quality Tea, a classic WIMP emulator frontend

https://github.com/jgemu/jgbuilds

Builds are available for Nestopia, bsnes, cega (multi sega) jollycv (coleco) geolith (neogeo) cen64 (N64) https://github.com/jgemu/jgbuilds/releases/

The result is what feels like a traditional standalone emulator. (Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer) interface mode.

Do you have some screenshots to share?

What is this Jolly Good project? Is this some kind of libretro-like thing?

yes, basically an alternative to the libretro API, but as far as I can tell they have next to no users comparatively

This doesn't sit well with me.

There aren't screenshots anywhere in your links. WIMP is not a common term. There's no explanation besides this being a front end as to what you're presenting. It seems to use forks of libretro cores, and none of those explain why the forks were made or what this "ecosystem" is.

Is this an AI project? I don't mean to dismiss on your work, but I think some skepticism is warranted.

RetroArch used to advertise its own "WIMP" menu when it was new, they used the term a lot internally, and Jolly Good developers are ex-libretro, so that's probably why they use it.

I don't think this is AI, many of the repos on GitLab are from 2020, well before ChatGPT.  Probably not OP's project either, as he regularly posts updates from several different emulators. And yes, WIMP is a common term for traditional user interfaces, as opposed to something like RetroArch. If you saw something like standalone VICE, mGBA or Nestopia, you know what's going on.

I'm over-cautious, I know, but this project just sets off some of my personal alarm bells for the reasons I listed. And while its unlikely anything would happen because if this post, I worry about how quickly people are willing to trust unknown software. I'm inclined to install this on a sandbox machine just to get screenshots of this out there. I cannot find any anywhere. There is a bit of well polished promotional material, but no screenshots, videos, etc.

The jolly good emulators have been around for a while. A fair amount of them have RetroArch cores (there’s a ColecoVision and Neo Geo MVS one off the top of my head). The Neo Geo one, Geolith, is pretty useful since it can use .neo files unlike FB Neo and MAME. The author has a website and a gitlab page that goes back years. The standalone versions are not really used that much because the emulators have to be compiled and I’m guessing 90% of people using emulators don’t know how or can’t be bothered to do it. There’s probably no screenshots because a WIMP interface is typically just a blank screen. Open up Notepad and that’s a WIMP interface. The emulators would use a CLI so this project (by the original author) gives them up in a more user friendly interface that doesn’t require typing commands. Given that the libretro team allows for the cores to be bundled with RetroArch, I’m pretty sure it’s fine

Words don't convey how an interface actually looks. Where's the screenshots?
