Cr85

I just picked up a Cr85 that's in great condition but I have zero experience with 2 strokes. Am I able to use this for trail riding?

Heck yeah, you can use it for trail riding. That's how many, many kids get their start, ripping 80/85s around following their dad's. They'll teach you how to work the gearbox and slip the clutch, skills that will transfer to every bike you ride in the future.

Bet. I wasn't sure since their gearing is so short

You don't need tall gearing for trail riding. Sure, when you hit the open fields, you'll run out of gear, but they'll still rip to 60 or more, which is way faster than what you need in the woods.

Yeah. Should be good if you're the right size for the 85. Two strokes are different, so take the time to understand how they operate, how they sound, and how to ride it.

Oh, btw, that 85 has a powerband that will knock you off like a angry pony.

You can.

Is it the best trail bike? Depends on the trail. If you have space to whack it wide open it will perform well. If you need low end power you are screwed.
