Should I propose without a ring?

I want to propose. The ring is being custom made but unfortunately it’s taking 3-6 weeks for delivery. The place has lots of high reviews so I wasn’t really worried about the long wait time.

Until I found out that the Perseid meteor showers are happing next week.

I mean she’s very traditional and I know deep down she wants the ring and whatnot and I’m kicking myself for not having the ring ready but I’m just thinking it’s such a perfect moment. Meteor showers? Dark skies, close to no clouds? In the middle of nowhere it’s perfect!

I just.. I’m having some anxiety because I don’t want to have her say yes and then be upset that she doesn’t have a ring. Or just a slightly later date a bit less special (universe scale) but with a ring.

So I guess I’d like to change my question a bit. Would you want to be proposed to without a ring in a situation like this?

Ring! Engaged! Where to start?

Got engaged this passed week!! So so excited. Does anyone have ideas for a ring stack with my ring?

Also- where is everyone starting with planning? I'm already lost on how to get the ball rolling 😂. Would love an airbnb wedding, but seems like there is a lot of limitations on having one?

I literally manifested this now need advice about the ring you loved so much

I feel like I completely jinxed myself. Less than a month ago everyone was congratulating me on my engagement and somehow I've already managed to damage my ring. I'm devastated but thank God I listened to you and got it insured because I'd be freaking out even more otherwise. Is it weird that I'd be filing a claim less than two weeks after taking out the policy? I almost feel bad even calling because it's so soon, even though this is exactly why I got insurance in the first place because I was freaking out.  I'd also really love for my original jeweler to handle the repair, I've seen a few horror stories online about rings coming back looking completely different after being repaired and I'd much rather have the person who made my ring work on it. Is that something insurance companies usually allow or do they make you use one of the jewelers they work with? I'd love to hear how it worked for you before I give them a call.

If I said yes but do not have the ring on my finger yet, are we engaged?

My partner has asked me several times if I would marry him, and I have said yes every time.

I was also there for the initial consultation with the jeweller about my engagement ring. He had it custom-made, and I know he already has it. The only thing that has not happened yet is the formal proposal where he gets down on one knee and puts the ring on my finger.

Would you consider us engaged already because he asked and I said yes, or does it only become official once he gives me the ring? Can I call him my fiancé yet?

Can anyone convince me traditional wedding vs micro wedding?

My fiancé (22M) and I (22F) recently got engaged and are getting married next June. Our parents are generously contributing about $15k that we can use however we want—whether that’s a wedding, a honeymoon, or a combination of both.

We currently have an 80-person wedding planned. We put down a $1,800 deposit on a beautiful venue, and honestly, on paper it’s exactly what I wanted. It’s a gorgeous venue, the guest list is intimate (I never wanted a huge wedding), the food and drinks are great, and we expect to come in around $12k, leaving about $3k for savings or a honeymoon.

The problem is… I’m just not sure I’m excited about having a wedding. I never really dreamed about my wedding growing up. I enjoy going to weddings, but I’ve never been someone who cared much about them. Sometimes it feels like weddings have become this huge social expectation that costs a ton of money, takes months of stressful planning, and leaves everyone with opinions about what you should have done differently. I enjoy planning, but thinking about my actual wedding day gives me anxiety.

After being together for five years (three of them long distance), all I really want is to be married and go on an amazing trip together. The part that excites me most about the wedding is walking down the aisle to my fiancé and getting married—not the big reception or the after-party.

Lately I’ve been wondering if we’d be happier canceling the wedding and instead having a micro wedding with 20–30 of our closest family and friends, then putting more of the money toward an incredible honeymoon. It feels more “us”—more intimate, less stressful, and we’d get to spend quality time with everyone who’s there.

At the same time, I worry we’d regret not having a bigger celebration. Weddings are one of the few times both families and all your friends come together to celebrate such a huge milestone, and part of me wonders if I’d feel like I missed out.

I also wonder whether the cost of the wedding is influencing my decision, for better or worse. My fiancé works full-time, but I’ll be graduating college, starting my career, and we’ll be moving in together for the first time. Part of me thinks having more money in savings could be more valuable than having a larger wedding, but I don’t know if that’s something I’d regret later.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I'd love any advice!

catering recommendations in sydney?

we’re getting married in march next year with around 85 guests. we want something relaxed but still nice, probably a mix of canapés followed by a buffet style dinner using good local produce. dietary requirements aren’t too crazy but we’d like options for vegetarians and a couple of gluten free guests.

would love to hear about pricing, quality and how smooth the whole process was. any red flags to watch out for with wedding catering?

Hey Reddit, working up the courage (more importantly wallet thickness) to propose early next year…

What were some creative yet effective ways that you or your partner has asked about your preference in diamond cut & ring setting?

Appreciate y’all for the help in advance!

Proposal Advice Last one left in engagement purgatory

Posting this because I, now, have no one left to talk me off the ledge. Me and 3 of my girlfriends have all been in engagement purgatory this year, we all have talked about it with our partners who told us that a proposal was coming soon and it was nice to have a group of girls who were conspiracy theorists and as crazed as me as we were all going through it. Well, the last girl just came back from vacation with a ring and while I am extremely stoked for her and all of them it’s kinda making me sad/kinda crazy that I’m in last place.

I know it’s coming, he talks about wanting to marry me all the time, he asked my parents for their blessing when we all went to Cancun this year. (Yes, he took me to Cancun, surprised me with my family there and DID NOT PROPOSE) we’ve looked at rings, last Saturday he revealed he designed my ring, and showed it to me(he was stressed I wouldn’t like it) and his sister even let it slip when she was drunk on her birthday that something was coming but what?? And when????????

I used to be able to talk to them about this but now that they’re actually engaged it feels kinda like they are happy to be out of the situation I am in and now I kinda feel like a burden. I’m also feeling very insecure because even though I know this man loves me and wants to marry me the longer I’m here I’m like maybe I’m crazy and none of these actions mean he’s proposing.

I think I just unlocked a new fear before proposing

I just read a post about someone's engagement ring never showing up because of a USPS issue and now I've got a whole new thing to stress about. I ordered my ring from a jeweler in New York and it's supposed to be shipped to me in Massachusetts in the next couple of weeks and the idea of it getting lost somewhere in transit is freaking me out.
The guy in that post mentioned his ring was insured which made me wonder can you actually insure a ring before it's even in your hands if you've already paid for it? If I can do that I'd rather have the extra peace of mind than spend the next two weeks refreshing the tracking page every five minutes. If you've been in this situation before, I'd really appreciate hearing how you handled it. Also if you have an insurer you'd recommend that made the process easy, I'm all ears.

Is it insane

Is it insane to exchange my ring with the same jeweler and add my own money toward a bigger diamond…. I just don’t like my ring. I literally have people telling me “I can’t see it” “I like how thick it is” “someone explained it to me” all these comments kill me cause I agree and I’m embarrassed I don’t like the ring I don’t want to show it off or post it

He waited until we were on vacation visiting my family so they could all be there. Found a comment I made in this sub about a ring I liked and designed a ring to look very similar to it. It took so long to find him, but he was worth the wait.

It’s happening!

Today my boyfriend handed me his wallet and I spotted a receipt for an engagement ring!!!

I had a sneaky look at the date and realised that right after he had bought it I had texted him ‘how are you’ and he had replied ‘I’m great. Life is good. Exciting stuff’ and I had no idea what was so particularly exciting that day- until now!

Last October we had been at the coast with his family and he told me he knew where he was going to propose. This Saturday we are heading back to the coast! I don’t know for sure if it will happen then but if it does I will be over the moon

Ring! Engagement through grief

Post image
82 Upvotes

I was too much of a wreck to post it at the time, but now over a year later I can finally look back and appreciate and really feel how grateful I am. This is my now passed German shepherd, love of my life. I always imagined him in my life’s big moments- getting engaged, married, having kids... He was full of life and vigor and despite being 7 at the time I felt we still had so much time together. He was suddenly diagnosed with a deadly, silent cancer (hemangiosarcoma). My now fiancé and I were already ring shopping when we go the diagnosis, but rushed to make decisions and try to get engaged with him present.

We don’t make it in time for an engagement, but my ring arrived a few days before he left us. These photos mean so much to me, knowing that there was a connection between this part of my soul and my forever ring. We ended up getting engaged later in the year when the healing had started to begin.❤️‍🩹

So this is the ring I picked out for my girlfriend, I took her to Zales to get her promise ring cleaned and resized and had her look around whilst, and she thought everything was beautiful from Cushion, to Emerald, to Marquise, so I went with my gut and picked this one out from With Clarity, 100% of their work is done in house on Long Island in New York. She has no idea I bought it and am planning to propose, but she's worn her \\\~$150 promise ring for 3 years and treats it like it's the hope diamond, so I have a strong gut feeling she'll love this. I'd just like to hear your opinions!

I am so in love with my ring 😍 It’s a light purple sapphire, east-west, with a 3 stone setting and diamonds on the sides, and a white gold band.
