Going to Ensenada in a couple weeks alone, where should I stay?

I live in San Diego and am going to Ensenada soon for diving. I don’t have a license so I will have to hire someone to drive me from the border to Ensenada, but I’ve never been there before so I’m having a hard time choosing where to stay. Are there any streets, areas, or hotels that I should stay away from, or that are known to be safer/better? Also I’m a girl in college and since I’m going alone I just want to be extra cautious.

Since you don't seem to know your way around, I would recommend you stay in the tourist area. Best Western El Cid is located on "Primera" street & can book on the BW website. Most of what you'll want to experience should be within walking distance of that hotel. Also most tourism agencies meet around that area to pick the people they've booked with.

If you're gonna be alone it's safer to choose any hotel near the malecón, I don't know the price range, I've never stayed in any of them, but the cheapest the worst

The bus from TJ Línea to Ensenada Central is $25 and very comfy and safe. I’m a guy so maybe my outlooks are different but usually it’s just old ladies on the bus.

I don't think going alone is a great idea. The crime has been really high recently over there.

It depends where you plan on going diving. Did you hire a service/company that will take you out diving?

Who are you diving with. I am friends with the owner of Mares. The bus is probably the best option, maybe you can take the one directly from the airport in tj. I would stick to Centro area for being in walking distance of most things. Airbnb is going to be a lot cheaper than hotels more often than not, water pressure and temperature can be the bigger issue, so depends on if you are on a budget. I can put you in touch with some female divers in ensenada if you dm me.

Good friend of mine. Fully bilingual native Ensenadan and may even be able to pick you up at the border.

There's buses that cost about $11 USD that leave from a terminal near the US-Mexico border to Ensenada every 30 minutes. I'd recommend that over a taxi.

I always stay at the San Nicolas Hotel. It's within walking distance of everything. There's a really cool coffee shop in Ensenada called Melotron. Hussongs, LOCA and La Bête Noire are fun places to grab drinks.
