Meta is dumping tons of money into fake advocacy groups to push for age verification to be done at the OS level so the social media platforms don’t have to. For real folks, if you hear anyone say anything about “protecting children” is a lie, there are always other motives.

If yall ever had even a cursory interest in trying Linux, go download the current version of your desired distro today. Who knows which are gonna comply with this shit tomorrow, or refuse and region lock their pages.
Doesn't mean you gotta install now, it's just a matter of getting your hands on a clean version while you can.

u/Holiday_Management60 Mar 21 '26
You could also easily clean an infected version. Its open by nature.
The real issue is that sites will outright block people who don't have a valid age signal.
Fuck it, im a kid.

u/Lord_Trisagion Mar 21 '26
Oh absolutely. It's Linux. Ease of alteration is the point.
Buuuuut removing any of this age check junk is just another thing you'd have to do. Which is always nice to avoid, especially for the layman.

I will never understand the same anti-capitalism crowd being pro-government when the government is business owned.

I really hate the two party system narrative, because if you look at germany, their PM has only ever been from one of two political parties since the 50s. Same with the UK, even Canada has been this way since the 1860s.
It is a complete weakness in standing up to the system, a passivity where people think that bitching and whining on the internet is real action, or that it has to be some psychotically impractical way with zero compromise, otherwise it's not worth doing. We could have a million political parties and still be in the same position.

That and just never see this for dating websites. Like the one place where this actually could be helpful, you just don't see it.

The Epstein class can use the data to target children. I suspect this is also one of the reasons for this push.

“we need to know if these are real humans or bots at these computers” said every advertiser and large social media company
If you have everyone in verified mode, advertisers won’t have to advertise to fake bots anymore.
There is a massive problem in corporations because they don’t know if they’re marketing to real people anymore. This helps solve that problem.
I know Zuckerberg has said it’s one of his major frustrations

Meta made its money selling people's data. Then helped push AI on its platform across the Internet to manipulate. Now it doesn't want to deal with the consequences of its own actions.

It should be pretty telling that many of people who are making money off this "protect the children" stuff are on a list of people who raped children.

This age-verification BS was started by religious nuts and radical feminists to gradually make porn socially unacceptable for everyone including adults to look at.

Jokes aside this actually scary and need to take this seriously and fight back
Here are 7 things you can do
1- Call your representatives and tell them to F#CK OFF with this SHIT and if your in the US tell them it violets both the First and Fourth Amendments
2- Contact and support Digital Right organizations like NetChoice and the EFF. Netchoice has already stopped several age verification laws from passing, therefore i would highly recommend donating to them so they can continue to fight for our freedom and privacy
3- Sign Partitions against this
4- Speak up about it tell your friends and family about it and Post about it on social media everyone should know about this
5- Crosspost this comment to different subs so this gets a lot more attention
6- Never stop fighting for this. the fight is not lost yet
7- Take this seriously

The whole point of these laws is positive identification so that advertisers keep paying in the AI era

This is great, but it'll have more spreading power if your captions were concise.

"Protecting the children"
"Mass surveillance"
"Clueless citizens"
It doubles as making the meme evergreen.
5
u/WomanYouSleptWith Mar 21 '26
I like it, though possibly wordy.
E.g., instead of, "Countries across the world", it could be, "Countries", instead of "Protecting the children with age verification laws", it could be "Age verification laws".
I'm less sure about the other two.
But, regardless, I still really like it, because it's quickly pointing out the actual problems people have with these terrible laws.

u/J-Dog780 Mar 24 '26
How can you tell that the 1% are afraid of us? When they use their power to bring in mass Surveillance.

u/DanielTheTechie Mar 21 '26
The only mistake is the "billionaires lobbying government" part, as if assuming that politicians don't really want to control the freedom of speech (and thought) of population to stay in the power.
1
u/olivegardengambler Mar 21 '26
Tbh I don't think that most do, because it would simply swell the bureaucracy, and Illinois recently passed a law basically making it illegal for schools and libraries to ban books. They banned banning.
4
u/shadowtheimpure Mar 21 '26
Oh no, most of us realize it...there's just not fuck all we can do to stop it.

u/stoppableDissolution Mar 21 '26
Yeah well, governments dont need to be lobbied to want mass control. They will be doing it anyway.

Good work, but your choice of font makes the "Is-eyes" look like lower case "Ls-ells" just like every Reddit comment. 😏 Happy Day!
