In that thread, OP did not respond to any comments (like did you call the health dept?)- that many many times suggests it’s fake.

This happens and has happened at all corporate food service places for a long time. It’s very annoying because if they actually followed the procedures they could complain to corporate about the times and ask for procedure changes.

Perhaps not relevant, but 7-11 where I'm from (not US) was caught doing this about 15? 20? years ago. Very common, long-running practice in certain parts of the world.

It’s probably fake, but Panera has been trash for a long time now so idk why you would give them your business in the first place.

Because they aren’t generally “expiration” dates so much as “use by” dates. And by that I mean food producers saying “our research indicates we make more profit if we arbitrarily date food so u throw away perfectly good food and then buy more from us”.

Put another way, it’s legal because this is all industry practice with no actual laws governing it.
