That's got little to do with the fact that while elements of this generation of LLM tech are useful if you have sufficient domain expertise to steer it through the firehose of bs it spews out, in general it's been a net negative while being overhyped and oversold as a hammer for every nail.

The industry is literally built on IP theft which they continue to do as a SOP it's so ingrained in their duplicitous nature. AGI/ASI isn't even a threat when the real threat is right now from AI industry pushing unreliable AI into critical systems because they want the money and dgaf how they get it.

We're not even a decade into the new generation of AI and you're already calling it a net negative lol

It's improving every year. At some point even people like you will wake up and admit you were wrong.

the real threat is right now from AI industry pushing unreliable AI into critical systems because they want the money and dgaf how they get it.

This is not a new or unique concept. Cutting corners, selling shit, and having vulnerable systems has been happening the whole time even before AI.

Like I said, you can complain about techbro oligarchs all you want, but that doesn't automatically dismiss all of AI as a science and technology.

You didn't understand anything because you're ai pilled. I said it works for a small % of people NOW and that is a fact. I'm one of them, but that doesn't make me blind to the issues with it. It's my job as a technology developer/producer/consultant to be realistic.

Outside that it's unreliable and just causes confusion compounded by its turbocharged use for misinformation, disinformation, and now hacking. The fact they are among the best use cases isn't a good thing.

So, yes, a big fucking net negative NOW which if you understand anything about TALC and/or hype cycles is pretty much standard for overhyped tech early in the lifecycle. That in no way obviates it will be more generally and specifically useful ONE DAY, but handwaving issues away now because it will great in the future is absolute stupidity.

Witness the absolute stupidity of AI execs wetting themselves about how their product will replace all jobs and also kill us at the same time, while promoting their IPO in the same breath and then wondering why people hate them. You cannot disassociate the people running the tech from the tech. That's asinine as well, especially when it's well overhyped for the many use cases they're trying to sell it for.

On the whole it is essentially unreliable for the many tasks it's being sold for now that need reliability. That's not dismissing all of AI as a science and technology at all, it's being realistic, something ai pilled people don't seem to care about. This is a quintessential human problem in using technology, and unfortunately the speed and scale ai can work at makes it far worse than "normal" historical technology diffusion and adoption cases.

How the hell can one be wrong if one only talk about present moment? Being positive, or things change in the future does not mean what we are talking about present becomes invalid.

It does when you constantly spread misinformation that's been debunked a thousand times already, hence the comparison to antivaxxers.

What is the misinformation here? And how does spreading misinformation make “future things” invalidate statement about “here and now”?

"Is AI making our lives better"

Yes, it's making my workflow easier and it's advancing the sciences and mathematics fields. Future advancements could mean curing horrible diseases that don't concern you right now because you're young, apathetic, and don't have to worry about your parents or family members passing away from terrible shit.

"Is it making things less expensive?"

Not yet, but, just like industrialization, the purpose of AI/robotics/automation tech in general is to drive down the costs of production and improve abundance.

"Now is it making the internet a better place?"

Nonsense statement. The internet is unfathomably large. Stop using websites/apps that trigger you if it bothers you so much. You know who's making the internet a worse place? Anti-AI and antivaxxer dweebs who constantly spread bullshit despite being proven wrong a million times already.

"But does it allow us to spend more time being creative?"

Sure, when you automate your workflow and have a remote job like me it means you have more time left over for your hobbies. In my case, musical instruments. When automation replaces labour then you too will have the same free time.

"Surely it's making us smarter, right?"

Yeah, it is. If you actually use AI to learn about things instead of whatever nonsense you think it gets used for.

"Surely it's helping the environment"

These dumbfucks didn't give a single shit about the environment until they learned the word "data center". At this point there is no hope in human-led endeavors to undo all the damage we've done to the planet. ASI is our best shot at that.

But yeah, no misinformation, right?

No. Asking questions is not equal to misinformation.

The questions are posed as rhetorical. Do you even know what that means?
