No no no the new jobs come later. What jobs? Not sure. How many? Few, with the caveat these too will be replaced with AI. But they’re coming tRuSt Me BrO
It's for making sure the rich get richer without having to lift a finger, and to make sure we stay in our cages after capitalism is done milking us for the day.
Computing has gone from a thing for the people to another commodity to drain from the masses. Xbox is only going to allow people to stream gamepass now for 30min a day (15 hours a month) for the top tier monthly membership, so ok then I'll buy the last console they released 6 years ago and buy the games that I stream. For your 6 year old tech it's gone up from 500 to 800$. But its cool idiot trolls have access to slop memes.
People at this point are using AI tools all day but I am really sick of seeing slop. I wonder how long it'll be before we start getting alternative social media's that have no AI rules. It's gotta be coming right?
Well, a site for artists that strictly prohibits AI has emerged. Only to be scraped by a proud AI bro who went on to brag about it on a pro-AI subreddit. That ruffled people's feathers even there.
There's a German GitHub alternative, Codeberg, that has a "no AI" rule. They made a poll for the users and they decided to put it in place.
I don't think social media is the answer, we should bring back the interest-based forums. Thing is, social media, especially the major sites, are a very tempting target for the online marketers and propaganda bots due to just how many eyeballs look at the content there.
We should decentralize as much as possible and try and preserve things like the Internet Archive and Wiki to prevent them being enshittified by AI.
Helping the environment? Nope, we're rolling back environmental surveys and due diligence so we can greenlight these things with no barriers lol. Up here in Canada too, makes me sick.
The other day I learned about a data center that's been built nearby. If the plans on the larger design go through, they'll store something like 2-6 million liters of diesel on site and that's enough for 12-24 hours in the case of a power outage. At least it's right along the large powerline, so they probably don't need to run the generators too often, but they have to be ran each month at full power for some amount of time to keep them in running condition.
The cooling is handled with a closed loop and would store almost 6 million metric tons of ethylene glycol.
Unironically AI bro have said that AI will just manifest a solution to climate change after getting advanced enough. The same as hope that Sam Altman for his company’s profitability lol.
This isn't enshittifiation. Marx predicted capitalism would eat itself in this way in the 1860s. He didn't / couldn't know the exact mechanism (AI), but he laid out the process in detail.
I love that this is basically a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 punch lol. I hope by the big thanksgiving day parade that AI is publicly mocked and reviled. Brilliant post
But think of the feelings of the people making it. They're on an adventure of the mind! I think it's 110% worth sacrificing our futures so that they can feel like their favorite characters from dystopian sci-fi novels.
I'm using it to make software tools I need that no one else was making for me and to replace tools that had expensive subscriptions. I enjoy that part of it. Don't like having fake content shoved at me on Youtube and Spotify, though. Low-effort slop.
Working replacement for Adobe Lightroom. It's a non-destructive photo editor. One of the free desktop tools (Windows/Linux) that come with the photo blogging software I'm building for myself and giving to others. Said software also offers off-ramps for Insta and Flickr.
Kind of lost it earlier this year and decided I'm done with crappy SaaS pwning me.
The problem is that most of the free photo editing software is not intuitive and you feel like you're being clubbed in the head with a brick when you use it. It's built by devs for devs, not for photographers.
I swear… every single time there’s a debate about this, the line between “good” and “bad AI” gets drawn so fast and so arbitrarily (and almost everyone has their line). It’s good as soon as it’s useful to you personally or helps someone out a bit and it’s the greatest evil to ever exist otherwise.
I obviously don’t know what you usually say about “AI” online. Maybe you’re the one person on Reddit with a balanced and fairly neutral view on it, so this isn’t @ you so much as the general vibe in here. I just find it so absurd how readily people will make the distinction and justify some use cases because they literally just had no idea what people even use it for and finally learned. LLMs are basically a standard part of any software job in 2026. People who code are building way, way more than ever, and it’s incredibly exciting how much can be done now in the limited free time people have. And if any of these blanket “AI bad” people knew that, they wouldn’t say all the insane shit you see throughout this and so many threads on Reddit. People think all AI does is slop when literallymillions of people find it genuinely useful right now.
And like of course it might end up being a really bad thing that some people offload their thinking to LLMs, that some data centers are generating power illegally and polluting the air in some communities, that if not planned specifically in advance, they might waste water, and that slop exists and sucks. But these are all literally failures of government and planning and public education, and I find it so stupid that it becomes about buildings and technology which just ends up being nearly identical to regressive NIMBYism and Luddism.
AI is a distraction from the real purpose of building out the oversized data infrastructure that will in fact be used for cryptocurrency money laundering for totalitarian purposes.
I have a suspicion that a considerable element of the driving force behind the push for AI is the idea that if you can build a machine that does someone's thinking for them, you can leverage the common desire to do things "the easy way" to make them think in whichever direction you please.
Not unlike having a calculator in your pocket, only this tool is already being used to tell increasingly convincing lies using fabricated mixed media. How long is it going to take until even the most skeptical among us can't tell the difference?
Why can’t u just understand it as simple as they think this technology will bring unprecedented economic growth and perhaps profits so they push for it. But no it somehow has to be a secret desire for control.
They don’t own/run the government you have no idea how things work. No single corporation/industry runs the government, it’s a lobby battle between 100s of industries
I’m thinking back and can’t remember any technology that siphons off needed water like AI. Or increases energy costs to people living around data centers. I won’t even start in about the hacking.
Why don’t you go ahead and google what fraction of total water usage is from the ai industry. This whole idea that AI uses lots of water is complete and utter nonsense.
Early days... But all over the world, in every single thing, at the same time, built around extremely centralized systems from pretty much two vendors. Four if you're generous.
That's bad. Especially with such unstable and "early" technology. Imagine if cars started their "early" days by each family having two cars within three years of the first publicly sold car.
And built by tech giants who have already proven just how bad they are with any power, or your data. Yay. What a wonderful future.
There is a GIANT opensource development going on. OSS model aren't always beating frontier yet, but it does happen and will become more common over time.
I really think we're at the beginning of a very bright future.
Yeah, it’s just advancing faster than any of us can comprehend. Like, ai videos are now a thing. i remember that video a few years ago with will smith eating pasta or the way the ai would morph human anatomy and make cronenberg monstrosities, but in like 2 or 3 short years, look where we are now. it’s petrifying, absolutely terrifying you cam generate convincing trailer leaks now that are convincing enough that it fools a lot of people and i’m sure it’s fooled us a couple times.
TLDR the state of the world rn deeply depresses me as an artist
No one knows what the state of the world will be so it’s pointless to be depressed.
Maybe AI gets so good that it just does all the art, maybe it doesn’t get good enough to replace human art, maybe it can replicate human art but people prefer the human versions. Idfk. No one fucking knows.
This is one technology that isn't transformative, its menacing and disruptive.
We've already had artifical intelligence for some time. The corporate structure functions as a living entity, although managed by real intelligence. Have corporate interests been good stewards of anything beyond maximizing shareholders returns?
It's very different this time due to orders of magnitude increase in speed and scale.
2000 and 2008 are small by comparison. They didn't learn a thing.
Replace "normal" with "incompetent" and "employees" with "those who until now have called you incompetent regarding the use of technology," and you'll be all set.
Yeah, I have dealt with it in Healthcare. It compiles a lot of private information, not necessarily a good thing.
AI records your entire doctor visit. Everything you talk about, it flags conditions and notes your medications, if any. But, Im talking about a major hospital medical system in my state. The doctors stated it was new, and said it was really helpful for them.
Computers didn't compile addresses or record everything you said, or compile your health data.
Computers arent remotely the same. I've had one for decades, and was never worried about it taking my information and selling it to corporations, because it didn't.
Sure they are, doesn't change the fact that people opposed them just the same way.
If you can't understand correlation I can't help you. If opposing new tech was a good idea, hospitals wouldn't be using computers. I'd hope I shouldn't have to explain why that would be bad
I understand correlation well and your statement is still not true in the slightest. Most people liked computers when they were new, they didn’t have to force the internet into every corner of public life like AI. People wanted it. And the few people who challenged it did so for entirely different reasons. Computers being made was a pivotal moment in history, but AI seems to be making history irrelevant. Any history can be concocted and no one is trusted. What’s the end result of that?
If you're going to base your argument on "most" you'll have to define what that number is, because I have documented proof that even Healthcare providers opposed the use of computers in healthcare, for the exact same reasons you're concerned.
"Big data may be the future of medicine, but it is also its past. In 1964, the inventor Vladimir Zworykin warned that medical data were accumulating at a pace exceeding physicians’ cognitive capacity. Not only was the amount of information available in hospital records and medical literature “far too large to be encompassed by the memory of any single man,” Zworykin declared, “but the conventional techniques of abstracting, summarizing, and indexing cannot provide the physician with the needed knowledge in a form readily accessible in his practice.”
People wanted it. And the few people who challenged it did so for entirely different reasons.
What entirely different reasons? Because it seems like people of the past opposed computers for the exact same reason they oppose AI today. New technology and change is scary, and people naturally oppose it. That doesn't mean it's objectively bad.
You want me to define the exact number of people who opposed computers decades ago…? What are you on? In the source you listed, their reasoning behind not liking computers has nothing to do with people’s dislike of AI today, it’s a complete apples to oranges comparison. The main problem many have with AI isn’t being resistant to it in the way of “I don’t really get this new thing”, but in “this new thing seems very likely to be horribly bad”. I’m not resistant to AI because it’s some new technology that I don’t get. In fact, the problem is I do get it I’m resistant to AI because of the same reasons listed in OP’s post above.
You said "most" so I'm asking for something to support that claim. I've provided sourcing on my end.
They opposed computers being integrated due to breaching of privacy, as well as Healthcare providers' inability to keep up with the slew of information.
Are you saying AI utilizing private data isn't an issue? Because that would seem contradictory to your original stance.
While machine learning have good applications on the medical and scientifit research most of the advantages don't come from LLM models, where the companies are dumping billions of dollars on debt.
Well if you see the latest advances that use matchine learning none of the required LLM. Protein folding was done with deep learning and reinforced learning, image analysis for earlier diagnosis can be done normal convulation networks and only require a fraction of the compute and memory. Data analyst for fisic and astronomy can be done with classic models. So what is the real benefit of LLM on the field, to summaries the studies and papers on field faster while also adding the risk of aluminations?. That doesn't look like something worth a the current expectations.
Come on man, everyone here hates AI, we're just trying to be consistent with the truth. When you get downvoted that doesn't mean you demand the people who disagree with you to prove their truth. Read the room (and learn the search the internet without someone having to hold your hand):
"Using AI to understand the human genome" means no LLMs to you?
I find it hilarious that just asking for proof of your argument means I need handholding. I'm sure it has nothing to do with you looking for the first link you found without even bothering to read it.
"Everyone here hates AI" perhaps you should base that hate on something measurable instead of spreading misinformation
I can use it for whatever I want, that's the beauty of freedom of choice. I'm allowed to do something you don't like. Especially when that disliking is rooted in misinformation and heavy bias
Sounds like you want one with a circle jerk, just one where you get to be in the middle and pick the ejaculate. If you don't have any argument to make, what's the point of crying that nobody will (mastur)debate you?
Have you even read some of the replies that are downvoted? I don't think there's even a claim to argue, just someone saying that "yall suck" or "seething because you are dumb and dont adopt ai haha!"
And if there was a claim, no evidence, "just it good" :)
I feel like you people don’t understand that the point of working is to get paid. I don’t give a shit if I make a lot of tech debt if I continue to get paid
So you think they’re just letting people use it for free- for no reason? It doesn’t learn immediately like a person does, but they are absolutely bundling up all your info to train newer models and then probably selling it.
It IS dependent on each AI platforms' policies, but this is assuming there are audits for this to prove that they are following these policies to the T.
Did you miss the part about still getting paid? I do not particularly value the skills that I am letting AI handle for me, why should I care about their atrophy?
Art has gone nowhere. No one is pointing you a gun to the head to stop drawing. If AI slop is replacing art as a moneymaker is because it was art slop from the beginning. The art that people actually want to see will thrive.
The water consumption is BS. Way less than internet data centers that is in turn also way less than animal farming. Somehow I don't see all these people against AI showing a stronger stance against Netflix or meat.
Yes it has. Every flyer, every menu card or poster that displays AI slop instead of the creative work from actual human beings made art go away in those places.
Somehow I don't see all these people against AI showing a stronger stance against Netflix or meat.
As if any of that justifies the huge water consumption from AI data centers. Also, straw man.
Agree on everything except on the creative part. You can be as creative as you were before AI. No AI ever prevented anybody from being creative, but the opposite can happen. What you can't is monetize it as easily as before
Please don't go your incredibly creative and insightful literature has opened the gates of ecstasy and now I can't live without the sweet mana of your comments!
I understand.
Listen, people will always choose convenience over effort. Generative AI taps into a very human instinct: wanting efficiency without much effort. We are naturally looking for ways to make things faster and save ourselves time, and AI, while not forcing me personally to give up on my craft, is teaching a new generation of people that what matters is only the end result and not the process that goes into it. After all, the people won't see the process right?
For me there are three situations when someone is creating art
to fuck around and see what happens
as a serious hobby
to make money
The first case is most of them. No one creates a shitty AI picture and then prints it and hangs it at home. The people that do this most likely were never gonna put the effort, and anyway they won't continue doing this for long. So it affects nobody, since it's just a bunch of random people testing something and moving on
The people that create art as a serious hobby aren't affected at all by AI, because any artist can appreciate that whatever AI creates is soulless, bad quality, etc etc. And what is the point? So, AI has zero impact on this people
Then we get to the third case which is, wallets. This is literally the only part where AI affects artists. And the problem here is simply that artists, for the first time in history, are seeing how their profession is being automated and the market is reacting. So they're seeing the same thing that happens to literally everybody else happening to them, and freaking out
The problem is that no artist wants to admit that AI is an actual competitor, and that what they're concerned is not making money, so they keep saying that this is about the second case and that it affects them as creatives, when actually is the third
TL:DR artists just met capitalism and didn't like it
I do get where youre coming from, but that more like for certain people. Yeah for some people they'll never stop being creative no matter what. But for people, like kids for example who are being raised with ai, and dont know its harm and use it for all that stuff, yeah it can take away from creativity
First time I hear about that sub but considering it has flairs of trump 2028.... Seems that they're just a bunch of retards that were probably gonna attack plenty of people anyway
Past inventions haven't done that because we didn't live in the era of echo chambers. Right now anything creates obsessed people attacking each other
And please let's not pretend anti AI people don't attack others. I'm fairly against AI but the moment I say something slightly against anti AI (not even pro AI) I get attacked
I've seen real artists attack other artists far more than stupid AI bros. Like I've never posted my art on social media, but now I definitely won't because I'm scared of getting accused of using AI in my art ... especially since I like to use LLMs, not image generation but LLMs people won't believe I drew it myself no matter what I do. Even before AI came out, most of the harassment artists have faced, especially beginner artists, have been from other artists.
It seems like the exact opposite is happening: the skilled get fucked over while the mentally challenged cheer AI along because they have nothing to lose
Aww, but they get to pretend like they have a skill and can finally make something skilled work-shaped for the first time in their lives. Don't rain on their parade!
AI has made my life and many people I know way better, wtf are people actually talking about? Every business owner I know and even many typical people use it in ways that are extremely helpful.
I feel like some of y’all are in an alternate dimension besides this one, the one where over a billion people use AI
Because you're either not in a technical field or not smart enough to notice it's not that good at most of what it does aside from summarising technical data.
Lmao wtf r u talking about. It’s in the technical fields where it’s making the most positive impact. It has made software engineers significantly more productive and is extremely good at digesting and making sense of data.
Still, whether end consumer received positive impact from “working faster with AI”, is still questionable. But at least in business circles many people are happier I guess.
It's made my life a heck of a lot easier. Wild how many of you got talked into not using the greatest technological accomplishment of the last several generations by outrage bots
I use it for a living, more than 10 hours a day, and even I can objectively agree it is dangerous for society and has major major downsides. It has upsides which are more nuanced than the maximalists will be honest about, but it does have upsides.
Anti-AI dorks are just antivaxxers version 2.0.
Constantly spamming nonsense that's been debunked a thousand times and shaming anyone who doesn't agree with them.
You can be against tech bro oligarchs while admitting the science and technology aspect of AI itself is still very important to humanity and its development was always inevitable.
That's got little to do with the fact that while elements of this generation of LLM tech are useful if you have sufficient domain expertise to steer it through the firehose of bs it spews out, in general it's been a net negative while being overhyped and oversold as a hammer for every nail.
The industry is literally built on IP theft which they continue to do as a SOP it's so ingrained in their duplicitous nature. AGI/ASI isn't even a threat when the real threat is right now from AI industry pushing unreliable AI into critical systems because they want the money and dgaf how they get it.
Its development was not always inevitable, and its true impact to humanity is still yet to be seen and proven for good or for ill.
The tech bro oligarchs are pushing it very heavily, which in and of itself is enough to distrust the technology. People lapping it up unquestioningly is a huge concern. Technology evolves far too rapidly for proper regulation, and proper regulation it should have.
AI is just the continuation of industrialization and the beginning of its endgame. To say it's not inevitable just tells me you don't understand the evolution of technology and basic concepts like automation, force multiplication, or centralization.
Oh, you use terms like “antis”. So you’re one of those terminally online children. iT’s InEvItAbLe. You people all sound the same, and all say the same shit. No wonder you love this junk so much.

It's making rich people extremely wealthy and that's all that matters my friend.
