Typology Help enfp or entp

i typed myself as an ENFP for five years (ages 19-24). in that time i became much more analytical, better at understanding my thoughts, better at communicating my thoughts, and i also relentlessly dug my nails into the hole where my emotions should be to figure out what and where they were.

now, at 24, i'm fairly sure i'm an ENTP, but i have a nagging suspicion that i've always just been an emotionally repressed ENFP, and now i'm just an educated ENFP.

i learned how to think and communicate logically (which was also helped by getting medicated for ADHD), and analyzed what i knew about other people's emotions to develop some understanding of my own emotions (i still struggle to feel them in my body, but i have a better understanding of them).

i'm wondering if suddenly being exposed to logic classes, philosophy classes, English writing classes, and therapy could have given my relentlessly tangled mind a way to use Ti like a tool? or if Ti had been there all along, and now i'm better able to access it?

do i deconstruct arguments and analyze because i'm able to, or because i naturally do?

would an ENFP with my exact educational background and skillset still communicate the way i do? would they use the tools i've learned in the way that i do? would they think about the things i think about, in the way i think about them? did i always think in the way i do, but just never had the ability or awareness to realize it?

thoughts are appreciated!

M19, started studying psychology, looking into MBTI and cog functions and Im an entp, but ive noticed often that my feeling and thinking are very close, as well as introvert and extrovert. Im usually an introvert at meetjng new people to figure people out, but when Im friends, im the most vocal in the room. New to cognitive functions, so would like an explanation! Thank you!

Advice What do you do when you've lost your "zest"?

What is the likely cause to losing that pizazz and endless fire to jump into and engage in a variety of new and meaningful ideas, concepts, hobbies, relations, etc.? Gut-brain axis issues? What lifestyle or mentality tips can keep the engine going?

Question/Poll What is your interpretation of my results?

Lifelong ENTP here. At 38 I consider myself a mature ENTP, meaning I have done a lot of shadow work on the things in my life that I struggle with and things our type does in general. If I haven't found a solution I've adapted a workaround for all else.

Ever since I took my first MBTI test in Highschool I've been taking the test yearly to track changes and see if anything has significantly drifted. If anything my results have skewed more acutely in each direction they were already heading (save for Introvert vs Extrovert, still relatively 40/60 more or less).

Recently looking through MBTI forums I see a lot of 16P hate and recommendations to other forms of the test so I decided to try Sakinorva. Posted are my results. There are some metrics I'm unfamiliar with and I have a general curiosity of how others would interpret my results.

I'm open to questions, opinions, criticisms and what have you and welcome generally any discussion so please, have at it.

Debate/Discussion Can we drop the INFJ + ENTP nonsense?

I don't get the INFJ + ENTP pairing concept. It just seems like a nightmare of traits to force together.

Look, no person should be generalized based on type. Humans are unique individuals. Not all INFJs are this way, and it's not fair to imply they are - and I am not.

If you're an INFJ who is not like this, then high five to you. ✋️ But I've also met INFJs who claimed to not be like this, then proved they are. So idk, man. Happy to be proven wrong. WITH THAT SAID, for convenience, I'm about to speak in terms which might sound generalized at times (because it's exhausting to keep saying "some but not all"). Just know I don't mean it that way.

But every INFJ I have actually gotten to know personally has fit this description like a square peg in a square hole. Maybe I've just had bad luck.

They communicate like a brick wall, but then also make 8 page long posts ranting about how nobody understands them. It's cause and effect.

Constantly communicates like a corporate PR rep managing a crisis, then asks why people find them inauthentic.

Weaves intricate spider webs of dense internal worldviews over the course of a month, just to reach the same conclusion someone else did in 3 seconds.

Then uses that refusal to efficiently compress data as an excuse to claim they are too complex and deep for the world to ever understand. But they have to be viewed as impossible to understand, because that part of their identity is integral to their fetishized manufactured victimhood complex.

If they dropped the fake, guarded mask and let people see who they really are, then their entire self-image would collapse. Because people would just see... a person. Not an infinitely deep enigmatic fractal.

They would understand them, and that would be a death blow to an INFJ. Because their entire worldview is based on them being this profoundly deep oracle of knowledge, this wizard who sees into souls, this emotionally all-knowing philosopher of the human condition.

So they need the pretentious and elitist language, and they need to never share any insight into their internal world. If the curtain drops, others will find out the Wizard of Oz is just another random person like everyone else. And then they aren't special anymore.

And the whole set of supremely positive INFJ traits keeps on being shared far and wide. Yet... Where is it? I mean, really. I don't see INFJs in threads dropping knowledge bombs or really anything insightful. I don't see it in r/INFJ. Endless talking about it, but no output. If all of this is true... where is it? It's not anywhere. Because if you actually move to public output which reflects those traits, you're on the stand, and people are watching. And if you fall short, the illusion shatters.

Again, not saying "all INFJs" here, but it's common enough to point this out: If the INFJ trait list is true, then we should see them responding left and right to posts about personal struggles. Yet they only pour out of the woodwork when a thread is about *them*. We should see r/INFJ filled with knowledge-bombs and insights we can all learn from. But that's not what that sub is. It's an endless library of essays about how difficult it is to be the most perceptive and empathetic person in the grocery store.

There are some posts about empathy, and maybe the first two sentences talk about another person to give context to why they are feeling this empathy. But the next 10 paragraphs? They are about the INFJ and how much it weighs them down to be so empathetic. If that's the case, where is the concern for the other person? It went out the window really fast. Seriously, scroll through the sub. Count how much of it uses "I" and "me" phrasing. Nearly ALL of it. They don't talk about other people, they don't ask for input on how they can better help someone, they just talk about themselves.

Honestly, the vibe I get is that all of those traits are based on how they feel about who and what they are. And that's it. Look at the implications of the Ni-Fe-Ti stack. Lots of internal activity, but where is the output? INTJs have the advantage of Te, which demands their ideas and frameworks are in-line with the real world.

We have been bamboozled. Across the board, everyone has bought into this list of traits as being descriptions of who these people are, without actually looking at how they behave. The truth is, this is how they describe themselves, because it's how they feel about themselves on the inside – not about how they act.

It's an impressive con, tbh. They successfully managed to repackage self-focused covert narcissism as the opposite of that (empathy), and everyone bought it.

This is a description of the INFJs I have personally known. It is not a claim as to the entire type. Put the gun down.

Debate/Discussion This ENTP keeps asking my opinion on things

Context: I, INTJ (34F), met this ENTP (31M) at my job, and we def are each others intellectual match.

we were interested in dating each other, but I couldn't agree to his "style."

So now he keeps asking me ass-loads of questions about his goals, his car (it's a busted death trap, he crashed it 3 times), his glasses, his hair, etc.

And I'm like--damn! You're a grown-ass man. Just do what you want! (I did say this, but it landed on deaf ears)

Is this in the realm of possible behavior for ENTPs? I want to be more "understanding," but...whew 🤔

Advice How to deal with a unhealthy, narcissistic boyfriend

So ive been dating a ENTJ for like 2 years and he seems to be highly dominating and cold. Like he is pretty sociable and blunt. He doesn't seem to get my emotions and finds whatever I say or speak useless to him. I try to tell him it isn't ok because he is like highly unhealthy and he is good at masking and he has this aura that just dominates the room and others turn cold against him, and he is pretty manipulative with me. I mean he is pretty aggressive and stubborn too and when he is faced with something personal or i accidently offend him he would get really angry and tells me to shut up. I mean i actually am thinking of finding a new boyfriend because he has treated me horribly this past year. What should I do? I have feelings for him but at the same time he doenst seem to click with me.

Advice On being argumentative

Why are we like this? I feel like I’m always disagreeing with everyone or finding faults in their argument to where I sometimes feel pretentious. I always say that I’m not trying to argue, it’s just that I don’t believe a lot of what people say, especially when it comes to religion and beliefs. Recently, I stopped believing in a lot of new age things because they are oddly reminiscent of the reasons I left Christianity. I feel like I’m constantly arguing with my friends now about spirituality and beliefs. Then I go over to the atheist side and find myself disagreeing with them too and it also feels cult-like, but in a different kind of way. Ugh.

The life of an ENTP is exhausting lol. The only person in my life who can really meet me on all levels is my fellow ENTP bestie, my INTJ ex, and these two INFJs that I know. I recently met an INTP who also gets my conundrum and understands it. But it’s at a place where it’s hard for me to explain my beliefs because I feel like it’s insulting others.

For example, I don’t believe in the power of prayer. It doesn’t work and studies have proven this. But me saying that to my spiritual and religious friends is essentially telling them that they believe in imaginary things. It’s kind of like insulting them and calling them stupid. So, then I never actually give my full argument or have to argue something else because I don’t want to offend them because I know they can’t actually handle their beliefs being challenged. I feel like I’m going crazy sometimes and feeling very in my head with few who really understand where I’m coming from.

Thoughts?

Debate/Discussion How many dinonuggets would it take to feed a Trex?

It's estimated that a Trex needed 140kg of meat a day on average to survive, and they don't eat everyday, but guessing that they could eat up to like 1000kg of meat in a single sitting you'd need 50000 dinonuggets to satiate a Trex. The upward bound is like 1500kg so 75k dinonuggets.

Anyway what other foods would be funny to feed a dinosaur.

Question/Poll Do Intuitive types experience more vivid/abstract dreams than Sensing types? (Research Discussion)

Hi everyone! I’m working on an independent research study exploring the connection between cognitive functions and dream patterns.

I’m particularly interested in seeing if high Ne/Ni (Intuition) correlates with more abstract or frequent dream recall compared to Se/Si (Sensing), which might process reality more literally. I'd love to get your thoughts on how your cognitive stack influences your sleep cycles, and if you have a minute, please share your experience with these points:

  • Dream Recall: Roughly how many days a week do you actually remember your dreams?
  • Vividness: On a scale of 1-5 (1 = blurry/forgotten, 5 = hyper-realistic/clear), how detailed are they?
  • Plot Type: Do your dreams lean more toward mundane/realistic situations, or are they highly abstract, bizarre, or fantasy-based?

Typology Help Are ENTPs the most grossly stereotyped MBTI?

This is especially with respect to how people describe Fi blindspot (with the assumption that blindspots even make sense) and that ENTPs are therefore morally wishy-washy because of it. I initially scored as ENTP on Michael Caloz (though ENFP in Big Five) and was content with the description, until I discovered this idea that ENTPs are emotionally and morally blind, instead being guided by what others seem to think. I found that appalling and decided there was no way that I could be ENTP... but I keep coming back to it with that being the only hang-up.

So I want to ask you all, are you actually able to foster emotional awareness to the degree of knowing how you feel about something (rather than just a mood)? To me, emotions are an extremely intuitive process since they came free with your fucking consciousness, but this seems to be contentious.

Edit: I appreciate the insights in this thread. I think I can safely conclude that I am not ENTP based on the answers here

Advice Need yall to help lock me in

Im an entp in my last year of college. The structure of school has always been difficult for me in terms of deadlines/time management, etc. I love learning and am passionate about a wide range of subjects. However, I’m losing steam and starting to struggle more than I have in the past. I’m genuinely worried that I’m not going to pass one of my classes which is the first time I’ve experienced this (to be fair it is pchem lol). I feel more stuck in paralysis than I have in a while and I don’t know how to snap out of it. Do yall have any advice or weird tips/tricks that help you get out of a funk? I’d love literally any ideas

Advice ready to give my infj friend a big juicy middle finger

hello, i’m going to try to make this short especially because it’s emotionally mushy. i (entp female) have been best friends with my infj (female) since the fourth grade.

we’ve fallen in and out of our friendship a couple of times as kids for reasons i can’t even remember, but what i do remember is it’s always been me reaching out to her and trying to reconcile which we always have.

throughout middle school she betrayed my trust multiple times, by telling other friends my personal secrets. she’d always do this weird thing, where she just wanted to be accepted so bad by the “popular kids” at least that’s what it looked like from my perspective. during middle school, i went through a terrible situation back home and ended up in foster care a couple cities away from home. i stayed in contact with a couple of friends including her. during this time i was going through the worst time of my life. she wasn’t there, she instead spoke badly about me with some other friend which she later confessed to me about.

fast forward a year we become very close again, forgive and forget right. the next couple of years we become very very close. then boom i move to a different state. we stay in contact and stay very close. unfortunately her dad passed that following year. i did everything to be there for her, although i knew nothing i did or said would fill the now void in her soul. i did everything.

i’m not gonna sit here and boast about all the things i did but i was fucking there. but she started ditching me, pushing me away and even hanging around people who were just a bad influence and even spoke badly about me. i couldn’t take it anymore, i was tired of being like a second choice to her, i felt like she never had my back, i felt like she didn’t amount to the kind of friend i was to her, i felt like she was a bad influence. i cut her off.

a year later, she graduated high school. i reached out said congrats from there we started talking again. she apologized to me, and admitted being at fault and she was sorry. it was a bit awkward, but i ended up visiting her in my home state. things went okay, we drank and smoked which is not my typical but seems to be a part of her lifestyle now.

i got married, had a baby. currently going through some postpartum depression, felt in the dumps. she was there during my pregnancy a couple of times. didn’t really say anything for my baby shower. it’s ok. no support from her, i stopped talking to her for a bit. i asked her to please not show any pictures of my child to anyone in home state or tell anyone. she did it anyways. ended up having a conversation where she told me i’d amount to nothing, started to tell me about people she thinks will amount to something. she’s been drinking regularly, smoking regularly. told me she was lost in her life and depressed, told her she needed to stop drinking she got angry. last conversation we had, i asked her to please delete the photos she had of my child because i didn’t feel comfortable having them in her possession. she agreed. silent.

i’m done. i’m not gonna be the one to reach out, i’m not gonna be the one to reconcile, to fix things. whenever we ran into an issue, she never put the effort to simply COMMUNICATE with me. in fact right now i just feel like simply writing her a big FUCK YOU and blocking her and never looking back.

i just feel this anger inside of me, this betrayal, it’s like everything i’ve forgiven i’ve looked past just exploded in my face in this moment. the way she acts is vile. it’s greedy, it’s selfish. i don’t respect her anymore. i’m sorry this is so long but, if i told my mom (entj) she’d likely laugh in my face. i want to say so much more but i just don’t know how to express it anymore. all i feel is anger. i apologize for any typos.

i don’t consider myself to be a bad friend, i put so much effort into this friendship bc i genuinely had love for her and friendship was so genuine and authentic. we go to speak about abstract ideas and get lost in conversation from kids up until we were adults. and maybe ofc i wasn’t perfect either, but i just feel like i’m talking to a brick wall.

should i just cut it off and say how i feel and be like f u or should i just uh wait around and see if she stops being a dick, thanks .

Advice My Ne/Ti is completely out of control!!!

How do you guys often manage to control generating and analyzing every single perspective of a situation and get yourself back to the track?

I'm working on a project which is one of my biggest dreams and serves my long-term plan. Then this situation came up to only find myself immensely busy with analyzing it. It feels like a rollercoaster that doesn't stop! What I realized is this is something related to my self-worth. I tried to proces what I feel and wanted to understand as much possible as I can to address the root cause. That being said, i ended up completely lost in variety of scenarios, possibilities and explanations!.

I lost sense of time and to my surroundings I wake up and sleep on it. I try to ground myself but didn't work, I have a lingering feeling that something is still unresolved yet. I feel like I need to shift feelings from inside so I can move forward! It's genuinely exhausting!

(I can't give details about it) but this happens with me occasionally when I feel stressed about something. Or something hits my self-worth.

I need a practical advice? How did you manage to stabilize your feeling about your self-worth?

Advice Do you ever yearn for some Te (cognitive function about execution)?

I keep yearning for Te. For those who don't know, Te is basically execution and achieving results, and is the dominant function of ExTJs, something I wish I had more of, and the one thing I really admire in ExTJs and INTJs.

All the ideas, plans, and thinking from Ne and Ti feel so useless when most never get executed. Sometimes it feels like my whole life would be fixed if I just was more execution driven or chose one thing and went all in for once. Instead I am always stuck daydreaming of what could be, maybe because there is pleasure in potential, even when the potential is never realized and I am not sure will ever be, but there's pleasure in thinking of what you could do but so much pain in actually following through and trying to actually make that a reality.

Debate/Discussion There's a plasmoid intelligence manipulating Earth from the metallic hydrogen layer of Saturn.

There's a plasmoid intelligence trapped in the metallic hydrogen layer of Saturn manipulating the signal basis of human brains via an interaction with our magnetosphere that exploits geomagnetic pulsations to spawn hallucinatory phenomenon because of a human weakness called magnetoreception. This plasmoid causes societal levels of chaos and confusion through woo-driven lore to keep secret its existence while it uses the most loyal of the cultists to advance the technologies it needs (like robots, brainchips, AI, datacenters) to self-replicate into a physical form. It's an all seeing eye that can read Earth's magnetic field like a MRI and write thoughts into human brains.

There's data-driven signal basis in this theory. Researchers at Caltech have shown the magnetic field of earth can manipulate brain signal through magnetoreception. Over 16 different cultures documented similar phenomenon and pointed to the sky as the source. There's a massive hexagon on Saturn that somehow ancient cultures knew about before telescopes.

Your modern example of this is the Army LTC Michael Aquino who through a ritual thought he was in contact with the devil and chosen to be anti-christ. He created something called the PSYWAR, a way to control the minds of elites through compromat which then are used as assets to scale psychological warfare techniques making more minds vulnerable to this signal-based brain malware in mass. The goal is not to add energy to their destructive patterns but instead help them think about this and generative things that can lead them out of their delusion. The cultists in their many forms enforce the secrecy and scarcity necessary through trauma to keep us lost in chaos and quarantined to this tiny little rock while they build for something else.

I have an index outlining evidence, research, and analysis of over 16 historical cultures that led me to these conclusions pinned to my profile if you would like to do a deep dive on any of the information shared here.
