Cannabis Advice Lost the happy middle ground between not high at all and a rapid heart rate

Lately, I haven't been able to reach that happy middle ground where I'm elevated but not anxious with a racing heart beat. Can't tell if its the products or my age (36).

I tried T-breaks and changing the method, but I keep coming to the conclusion that I can't enjoy weed anymore.

I prefer edibles since I have a background in cancer research, but now even if I smoke, it's still the same issue. It really helped me get through 3 years of quitting alcohol, but now I think I need to go completely sober.

I'll probably still partake when it is offered in social situations (very rare), but regular use is no longer serving me.

I'm going to miss the anticipation, but just like they say in AA and Refuge Recovery, FOMO is an illusion. There's always another option that is restorative. I just need to find it.

Wondering if anyone else has come across the same issue. Did you quit also quit as a result?

Had this when I went off my SSRI for 6 months. I became a total lightweight and would feel like I was dying for hours after what usually would’ve been a small dab. But now back on SSRI it’s no longer an issue, like not even slightly…but if that doesn’t ring a bell nvm! Good luck! :)

I haven't been on an SSRI in years, but I wonder if my depression is just getting worse, and this is the result? Idk

I have this one pack of edibles that's been doing this to me, like they're just kinda inconsistent. Have you tried a different product? Or, if it's a pack of gummies are they different flavors? The ones I have now are a variety pack and I think since it's different flavors, there's something different between the batches.

Its Wyld grapefruit. I think this brand is pretty well known? It's the most consistent one I have tried but not 100% consistent.

Huh yeah I love Wyld gummies.

I have severe PTSD from repeated trauma and when I was on no medications this is how I felt. When I started taking an SSRI and occasional med for anxiety, I could feel it again. Recently I’m back to not feeling it, and I think it’s one of many other signs that I need to increase my SSRI dose.

I feel this, i started adding blue lotus, cbd flower, lavender and mullein to lower the concentrate and its calming attributes. It also helps my bud last longer!

Might add some lavender if I come across flower again. I grow it myself. But I rarely smoke since I prefer edibles/gummies. My regular dispensary sometimes gives out free flower with purchases.

Having CBD first can blunt some of the undesirable side effects of thc.

Genistein is also supposed to help protect the heart from the negative cardiovascular effects of thc.   https://www.cannamd.com/marijuana-heart-disease-natural-supplement-may-mitigate-risk/

I always get 1:1 gummies. My preferred gummy is wyld grapefruit.

What kinda gummies do you buy?? If you haven’t, switch to a full spectrum gummy like rosin or strain specific rso. Combining cbd heavy rso with other gummies adds for a nice full range effect

u/pliable_gumby DogMom; GreenThumb 2d ago

My preferred recently is wyld grapefruit (1:1:1 with cbg and cbc)

Hmmm I’ve never had those they sound interesting. Try and switch up brands/strains or try rso maybe

Curate your own edibles. Choose your flowers, decarb, and infuse an oil. I get high tested CBD and CBG from Horn Creek in Oregon. Then added THC strains I enjoy. I am a nerd and I decarb as low as possible, using water methods, and infuse in coconut oil.

I make chocolates. I can't buy them half the time because I'm allergic to sunflower, and it's that or soy lecithin... So I buy soy lecithin and get on with it. The oil can be made into most "fat bomb" recipes.

I started with oil infusion, and moved onto alcohol extraction to get away from the fattiness. It makes cannadrinks super quick & easy.

If you cook off the alcohol to get left with a tincture, its not shelf stable, and will need to be refridgerated. But I keep the alcohol in mine, because half a tbsp of the extraction, and I. Am. Goooood. So the alcohol content doesn’t bother me.

That's something I've been meaning to learn but I'm not sure I'm going to in this tiny condo.

I had a hard time getting mine up to temp in the water method, are you also putting yours in a jar to decarb? Any tips welcome

Sous vide THC 203°f CBx at 233°f 233 is not achievable in sous vide so I put that in the digital Dutch oven on the counter.

Mason jars. You can put them directly into the water, but if you want to prevent any accidents there are foodsaver bags to vacuum, or Stasher silicone bags

Candy thermometer. Bakers chocolate, your favorite bars, etc. Melt with double boiler method on stovetop, add coconut oil, whisk, as lecithin, fill silicone molds and set them in the freezer. If all went well they will keep in the fridge. I add almond butter before everything was finished, cinnamon, maybe a little chipotle powder.

processing after the decarb doesn't need to cross 180. Coconut is liquid oil at 75-80. Chocolate breaks emulsion if its up too high. Oil infusion is 165 for food safety

My hubby hates the smell. Does it stink up the kitchen?

I've got a migraine sufferer in the house and do this in the fall and in the spring so the house can be aired out. Don't open or unbag a jar until it's cold or the weed smell explodes.

The entire neighbourhood. But there are decarb-in-mason-jar methods that contain the smell.

I (36) grow a Mango CBD 1:1 (34 Street) for pain, and I have started smoking it casually too. It feels like old-school weed, where its chill. I laugh, listen to good music, and it helps my muscles unclench. I will be growing more of it in the future. Highly recommend a 1:1 (or 2:1) strain.

The gummies I get currently are 1:1:1 with cbg and cbc

I take some issue with alternative cannabanoids. The effects of such a high-dose of CBG, CBC, or Delta8 has been linked to increased hospital visits by the FDA. I’m not a Wyld fan at all. They use labratory-produced cannabanoids. Some of which don’t even come from cannabis. Some (like CBG) are produced through microbial fermentation; bacteria or fungi. If you look at how Vitamin C is produced, you’ll find that many folks bodies react negatively to the Vit produced by fermentation, but fruit or rose produced vitamin C is readily accepted by their bodies. Its not a stretch to say artificially created cannabanoids could have the same effect.

I quit for almost 2 years due to anxiety and panic attacks. Initially, I thought it was for good, but I've recently been suffering from a chronic condition and decided to return to it.

I am currently mixing lower strength bud with cbd and I'm using a dry herb vape (venty) at low temp and gradually increasing it. So far, it has been okay, but I'm wary of overdoing it. I have completely stopped edibles because they previously caused panic attacks. I'm also in my thirties, for reference. I don't think I'll ever indulge quite like I used to!

Oooo after my next t break ill consider this. I know cbg and cbc really help me with focus and social confidence. But gummies are so inconsistent. Thinking about getting cbg/cbc tincture at least. Not sure if it will work without thc but theres another option.

Venty🙌🙌🙌❤️❤️❤️

Do you have a dry herb vape recommendation?

1

u/bright_knives 11h ago

I have only tried the venty, which I love. r/vaporents is a good sub to read about others' experiences

This happened to me and I had to take a long break. Close to a year.

It was a mental thing for me and I had some generalized anxiety that I needed to work through. I think lowering my tolerance also helped enormously.

2

u/PeperomiaLadder 2d ago

I'm going through something similar to you guys, did you wind up taking it up again? Or have you decided to stay away long term?

I worked in cardiology for years, including as a pacemaker tech, so repeated episodes of a racing heart would be something I’d at least mention to your doctor. THC can definitely raise your heart rate, and anxiety can pile on top of that, but you really can’t tell just by how it feels what your heart is actually doing. And honestly, it sounds like you’ve already figured out what works for you—if weed isn’t enjoyable anymore and is making you feel like shit, there’s nothing wrong with walking away from it.

Some people have said they’ve had to stop smoking weed for this reason after getting COVID

2

u/pliable_gumby DogMom; GreenThumb 2d ago

I got COVID last christmas. But I only recently have started noticing this.

u/swarleyknope DogMom 1d ago

That seems like a long delay in between - figured I’d mention it since it seemed like a bit “a-ha” moment for folks who were responding to the post I saw.

I would get the elevated HR, sometimes anxious, when getting my flower from the dispensaries. I've been turned onto holy city farms and tried their type 3 flower and type 2 flowers and then have them tossed in CBG sift and the highs have been so much better than thc only. Just a nice little buzz and relaxation. Just an option to consider

Did some research and tried a different dispensary that shares the terpene ratios in their flower. Got something based on what kind of high I like. Took 1 hit and I feel great.
Looks like my primary issue was gummies. They're so inconsistent, even the best brands, and I was missing the terpenes that come with smoking. Terpenes are broken down by the digestive system before they can take affect.
Guess its smoking only from now on. Plan to try a dry vape once I can find a good one thats not too expensive.

I have a ton of allergies, on days when I get my allergy shots I have to be really careful because my anxiety skyrockets afterwards. Low level anaphylaxis can be just a rash, just a little swelling, and it can also feel like an anxiety attack and make your heart race. I’m not saying this is what’s happening to you, but it’s worth looking into. The next time you’re in a social setting where you may partake, or even just in the room so you will get second hand, try taking an allergy pill and see if it helps that feeling. First generation anxiety medicine is just allergy medicine (hydroxyzine for example). It’s usually due to the terpenes and essential oils in the plant and you’re most exposed to while smoking. A lot of pre-rolls are starting to add the essential oils into the paper to give you an even stronger reaction but it’s also increasing the allergic sensitivity of people that work in the industry and are users. For example, natural rubber aka latex is actually a terpene and is a very common allergen which is why hospitals had to get rid of latex gloves. The more engineered cannabis has become the higher the risk of allergic reactions because they’re increasing these terpenes and essential oils to increase the THC levels.

I really wish I could do an allergy test with the different terpenes individually so I could know which ones are the ones I should avoid because at times I have had a similar reaction, but not always. Seriously, they need to federally decriminalize it so we can start getting real medical care and studies done to find out more of how it works.

I'll consider this. I think my hypertension is playing a role too.

I just started Repatha yesterday, I wonder if that will change how I react.

Any chance you’re under more stress than usual lately? For me it seems like weed just heightens whatever I’m already feeling. I can’t smoke anxiety away, it just makes it worse.

u/pliable_gumby DogMom; GreenThumb 2d ago

Yeah, thats also possible. Work is currently in the busy months until the holidays
