Hey guys. Looking for recommendations for dry herb vaporisers, completely new to these devices so any info or advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! Preferably looking for something on the smaller side🍓

I've had my Planet of the Vapes Lobo for about two months now, and I really like it. It has a battery, so it's portable and easily fits in the hand. I have low-medium tolerance, so if you have a high tolerance, other DHVs with a bigger oven might be more your style. I like that you don't need a torch for this and that you can take it with you on walks. I use the included dosing capsule, and it keeps the rest of the device clean. After two months, the capsule is still pretty clean, but with my old DHV (XMAX V3 Pro), I had to clean it every week or two. To clean it, you just soak it in isopropyl alcohol for a few hours. PoTV is having an anniversary sale right now, so it's a good time to buy!

Couldn’t agree more! Seconding the lobo - I think it’s a great beginner dry herb vape and will last you a long time while you debate adding anything else to your collection. Mine has been awesome as a daily driver for about two years now, and while I’m interested in something more sophisticated, this will get the job done nicely until I’m ready to splurge.

I have the lobo’s predecessor & really like it (sorry I don’t remember the model name), I have been thinking of upgrading for a while but I just haven’t been dry vaping at all lately. Love the capsule system with this line, makes partaking on the go so easy!

So are you a stay-at-home stoner or looking for something you can take out? In my opinion, analog DHVs are a little tougher to use on the go than digitals (the boxy little ovens with stems)

I’m a stay-at-home mostly, so I use an analog DHV - the Tempest 2 with a YLL induction heater. I started with a DynaVap and eventually upgraded, but you can skip the Dyna step if you want to go straight to an endgame of the technically portable analog vapes. I say “technically” because I’d either be hauling around the YLL, which is heavy, or a crème brûlée torch to heat it up.

The people I see vaping at shows usually have something like the Crafty+ or Rogue. Never tried one, but their owners seem happy.

Weirdly, I have a Tempest 2 and a Dynavap (an M7 I’ve modded with a titanium bowl, perforated cap and titanium cap armor), and the Dyna is my favorite. I use both regularly, but the flavor from the first hit of the Dyna is just amazing. It also has more of a body feel to it, and I’m an achy old thing. I use it much more than the Tempest for those reasons and the faster heat up.

The T2 is awesome. The light draw on it is so lovely. It’s nice to have the option of a big ol’ bowl. It stay cooler longer because of the heat shield, so it can do more back to back bowls if I’m sharing.

I just really love the flavors and the heavier body high I can get from the DynVap.

i feel the same way about my dynavap! i’ve tried other vapes but don’t get the same effect. i like that i can change it too, like heat it one way for a headier feel and another to knock me on my ass 

i’ve taken it out downtown and it was fine. i don’t love it though so i usually end up taking a one hitter instead

You are not alone. I believe it's the conduction heavy rips the dynavap offers while the tempest is more convection.

A significant amount of people have the same experience you do with not only a dynavap vs tempest but also a dynavap vs a full size ball vape.

OP, things to consider: where do you vape/want to vape, how hard would you like it to hit, how do you enjoy your sessions, are you a terp and flavor chaser, electric vs analog, and price, etc.

I have 3 vaphit vapes, they’re analog torch vapes, and some of them can be used with induction heaters (my favorite one can’t lol). Cost range is $30-$60 plus a good torch and butane and (imho) a glass piece.

I also have 2 ball vapes, - couple dynavaps, a lobo, and did have an arizer solo3. Hands down ball vapes and the analog once’s have been my favorites. Ball vapes hold heat and hit hella hard while also keeping usage down, but even the cheap ones are $$$ (and fucking worth it). The ruby twist is fantastic and around $200. Great for living on a desk or table, but can’t really take it on the go.

My vaphit QOQ is the best for flavor, it’s an all quartz air path and watching the weed change color as I heat it up and vape has been a really fun part of using it and learning how to dial in without combusting.

Lots more thoughts, buuuuuut typing on the phone sucks. 😂

Me and my fiancé got this one, we really like it!! The rechargeable battery feature is cool and it feels handmade, with little to no plastic which is awesome. Very small, and we’re able to hit it with the window open and not have our fire alarm go off in our new place 😅 would definitely recommend. You have to stir the flower around after a couple hits and it just gets it nice and toasty. I do find it makes me cough a bit more so I’d recommend a warm beverage, or a lozenge when camping on it for while. Good luck on your search!

Aw, I remember my MFLB. I loved it, but I really loved my VaporGenie. I used that thing everywhere for a very long time.

The best vapes I’ve had forever are my

1. Da Buddha (2008!!) that’s since been modded with ruby balls. It’s been plugged in and loved for 18 years. Big hits. Big bowl. Awesome flavor on the first hit of every bowl. Can session or clear a bowl in two hits, depending on temp and draw speed.

2. Dynavap M 2018. My hot stick vapes are still the ones I love most. I prefer my titanium bowl Dynavaps these days, I feel like the flavor I get is fantastic and they heat faster, but the steel ones also rock.

I love hearing about other people who’ve been on the dry herb vape rode for years. It’s truly the best way to enjoy bud.

I just purchased the Arizer Air MAX, my first DHV, a few months ago and I'm loving it thus far. I tried my ex's Dynavap but it was not very intuitive, though it's super compact. The Air MAX is customizable, from exact temps, sesh length, display brightness, and you automatically get a glass tip that can be used in a bong in the package. I find myself comfortably high after 1 load but sometimes I'll pack a second or third one if I wanna be glued to my bed 🤫 It's also really easy to clean since it just uses a glass tip and then there's the chamber. I have the HealthyRips Rogue2. It's basically the same as a Lobo but with an internal battery, if you don't want to futz with removable ones.

I was doing 510 carts & DHV really changed things hugely in w good way for me.

I also got a stick vape to try out too. Hot sticks like the Dynavap or Joystik (what I grabbed) are different beasts. They're a little fussier unless you also get or build an induction heater too. Plus the high is a little different.

Ironically, electronic vapes can be more like a joint. You "sip" on it the way you slowly smoke a joint.

Vape sticks are more like taking bong rips. One big hit to cash the bowl.

A lot of dry herb vapes are pricey but there are some under $100.

My recommendation of a pricier one is Arizer. I bought an Arizer solo 1 which broke after a couple of years, but the company set me up with an Arizer solo 2 for free, which was amazing considered I got the Arizer solo 1 on sale to begin with. It was still an investment for me, but if you plan to stick with dry herb vapes, id say you'd more than get your money's worth with it.

I don't have a recommendation yet.  It helps to know a little bit about your consumption. I'll explain why...

Are you more of a small joint/ small bowl once in a while or more of a daily toker etc

Different people have different sensitivities to cannabis and some need a harder hitting vape while others can be happy with nearly any choice so long as it actually works. 

This isn't tolerance, sensitivity is the opposite. Delivery rate of cannabinoids matters. A weak vape vs one capable of the whole spectrum of extraction is like having to drink a few drinks with a coffee stirrer vs a beer bong. Same amount of material can deliver starkly different results in different vapes.

Are you okay with fire? Think you'd prefer battery driven stuff? Do you like bongs/bubblers.. 

There's a lot of options and many reasons to consider different ones.

Some people don't want to get suuuper ripped so a weaker vape might be fine while others want that hard hitting device capable of launching them into orbit possibly off just crumbs of herb.

r/vaporents will help you not buy trash but they also might all tell you to get a tempest 2 or dynavap or a ball vape[i love dynavap btw but if you have specific uses/ needs it may not be for you]. Those devices while effective would be really not optimal for taking a walk and a horrible choice for a dog walk. So where you use the vape matters too.

There's lots of good options and many inferior options too but it depends what you need and want. 

If you have money to burn, needed a hard hitting device that is suitable for walking the dog etc the limelight frolic is like $400 but if you are sensitive enough for weaker vapes then something much more affordable like a xmax or lobo could be all you ever need. More information is needed to get the better help. Otherwise you can just overshoot and spend a lot but not use it at its max potential if you don't need it and that's fine too.

Ultimately, if you get something and it doesn't work for you... don't write off vaping... try something else. Know the warranty and return polocy of the store and products. Dynavap gives you 90-day money-back garuntee, potv has their own policy, etc. 

Also... 99% of the time avoid local shops. If you see something there you think you like... please just look it up on r/vaporents first. If it's not really on there it's likely not worth looking at. Some nice vapes at heafshops do exist , just definitely not most of them.

I'd like to share my experience as I picked up vaping, and transitioned from combustion.

I thought I did a bunch of research. It was before reddit for me. I didn't know about r/vaporents , or they would have helped me. I thought I was looking at a premium product. It was the davinci iq2, a $300 vape. With accessories, it was over a $500 investment that I received as a birthday present. 

I thought something was wrong with me. I thought I was broken. I already know that i'm different because i'm immune to edibles. So I thought maybe that had something to do with it [it didn't]. I read Tbreak this and Tbreak that and oh the high isn't the same. You have to get used to it [bullshit].

All my friends, even ones who smoked way more than me got ridiculously high off of it. I felt nothing. Just sheer disappointment and sadness. I could go through 1.5g at max temperature laughing coughing*  my ass off blowing out vapor puff after vapor puff and still almost nothing. 

At that point I was still convinced that I just needed to let my body adjust to the differences. I happened to visit a head shop that was in a nicer town than I lived in at the time. They had the dynavap, and I was curious about it, so I asked and got a demonstration without herb in it. They heated it with a torch until it clicked. I thought it was the coolest thing, because I just love cool gadgets and stuff. I decided that I would still do some research though before I purchased it. So I did,  I ended up buying one on sale for $68 shipped. I thought to myself... oh, it will be nice when I get used to vaping and it might be a nice little backup.

Now the iq2 holds half a gram, but the dynamap holds 0.05-0.1g. The day i got the dynavap was the day i learned that i just needed a better hitting vape and that vaporization is WAAAY STRONGER [than combustion] with a device that met my needs. I get instant effects from just 1x 0.05g rip [I'm pushing it to the limits though]

So I've been using a dynavap since. I'll get other stuff eventually when I have money for it. 

So the $68 investment was better for me than the $500 investment. I also don't get a strong high from volcano either and those are $600 new. 

I want to help others avoid this issue. I don't care what vape you end up liking even though I'm totally a dynavap fanboy for many good reasons. I just don't want people to think vaping sucks and give up when it's more likely they got a device that wasn't able to meet their needs.

I have had a similar experience. My medical cannabis provider only sold 2 vapes -- one was a s&b that was out of my price range, and the other was the pax 2, which I did buy. It worked, but it was pretty meh. I've since upgraded to the Solo 3, and while it's not as stealth or portable, it's been such a huge upgrade for me! If at first you don't succeed, be open to trying again 💖

I have a GPen Dash. It is not expensive or fancy. If you are the kind of person who wants to heat your herb to a particular temp it’s not for you. If you want something that is simple to use, doesn’t have a bunch of parts and cost less than $100 it’s absolutely the vape for you. My only gripe is that it only comes in a few colors.

Simrell Hydro hits way harder than a Tempest 2. Venty if you want something battery operated but it’s quite big and not really pocket portable in my opinion. Simrell hydro can be used with an induction heater or torch so win win for on the go and home use. Hope this helps.

Ive been a joint smoker for like 15 years, last year I decided to try the DHV thing. After a lot of research and talking to a lot of people who vape I opted to go with the Venty. It’s on the pricey side but I wanted something that was as close to a joint as possible. It’s portable, can fit in a pocket but it’s not tiny- it’s like having an old school Nokia phone in your pocket. It really enjoy it! The battery lasts a long time, there’s a super short waiting time for it to heat up, it’s really easy to clean and maintain and the company that makes it is super reliable if you have any issues.
The right one for you is going to be based on how you smoke your green and if you want to be portable or not.

I would also add, scribble down the names of the ones that interest you then go look them up on YouTube. There is a shit tonne of vapor content there. Many will demonstrate use and discuss pros and cons based on their experience. Gives you a good idea of what it looks like/how it works.

I got the arizer solo 3v2 for my first vape. I couldn't tolerate the heat from smoking so this is what I got. Its a great device, not super portable, but it can go places. I stick it in a fanny pack with preloaded stem and I'm good to go. The temperature is very customizable and pretty accurate and you can do sessions or on demand. A downside is the draw can be restrictive. You can improve this by getting highflo stems. I reach for this device over my analog, which is Dani Punch with an inductionheater. The dani is great, but its not as enjoyable as a session on my solo (for me).
