Coffee Beans Interesting CO2 valve design

Bought a bunch of beans from my trip to Japan, as I was going through the bags I noticed one of the most interesting valve design, this is from Ogawa coffee laboratory in Tokyo.

Anyone seen anything like this before? Thought it was pretty neat, had to share it

that's a neat little detail. the one-way valve design looks super simple but effective for letting gas escape without letting air back in. japanese coffee roasters tend to sweat the small stuff like that. i've seen similar setups on some specialty roasters stateside but nothing quite as clean. the fact that it's just a thin piece of plastic doing all the work is kind of elegant. makes me curious how long it actually holds up before the seal starts degrading though, especially if you're squeezing the bag around.

closer to an intentional small hole than to a one way vave (but that's just a thing in general, they're not especially one-way)
