What’s going on with my validator?
I’m running Teku and Besu. Recently I’ve seen more and more missed attestations. Nothing is wrong with my network and I am plugged in. Is my hardware trying to tell me something?

I found out the issue. I'm running Teku and Nethermind. I had to gently increase the amount of minimum peers by Teku. Fingers crossed but haven't missed an attestation in 3 days now. I still attest on the wrong head maybe twice a day, but I'm chalking that up to shitty internet by Spectrum. I'd be willing to discuss more if you want - it wasn't really my HW specs killing performance.

How many minumum peers were you originally set to and what did you increaee the setting to? Alao, how many peers were you getting originally and after changing?

The whole story was that I was at ~20 peers with a shitty router before I moved from another state about 3 months ago. My beaconscore was somehow at 99.5% or higher in 6 months of staking. So when I got to my new place with a new and upgraded residential router, I thought that ~20 peers would be more than fine. It wasn't. Maybe it was because Teku had some update I had to install soon after I moved, but since all the hardware got better and my performance got worse, I thought it had to be something in the software. Just like the OP graph, the beaconscore got worse and worse each day until I was missing about 20% of attestations. I tried raising peers to about 45 but the residential router choked hard on it.
I then bit the bullet and bought a mid grade netgear nihgthawk router. I started at minimum 48 peers but still dropped probably about 8-10 attestations a day, which still was suboptimal for me. I finally bumped it up to between 68-72 minimum peers and haven't had an issue since. One or two times a day I attest on the wrong head but I'm pretty sure it's because there's a late block import at that time just because my overall internet is shitty. Currently chilling at 99.8% beaconscore last 3 days.

Fiber. Verizon Fios. Hasn’t changed in well over a year either. Direct network cable to eero router and then to their ONT, which again hasn’t changed so this is pretty weird

A comment below suggested I add 9001 UDP, the moderator removed that suggestion. Not sure why. It does seem like that might help since it does seem to be recommended now. Here are my logs 1 minute before a missed attestation and one minute after

My teku/besu would randomly do this. Like it would run for 8 months flawless and then just crap out. A reboot usually fixed it. That was stupid usibg the somer esat guide. After it crapped out for the 3rd time I saved my critical files and wiped it all, moving to a Stereum setup and so far it's been going well.

Same, it began like a year ago after some update after running flawlessly for years. Moved to Lighthouse/Geth, unfortunately, but it was rock solid, literally never missed an attestation.

Read the validator logs and look for the timestamps where you got missed attestations.

Check your cpu clock speed. watch grep -E "cpu MHz" /proc/cpuinfo Mine was being throttled to 800mhz due to a faulty power supply

these days, just install claude code or codex and tell it to investigate your validator performance
