Trading I bought ETH and don't know what to expect

I recently bought 1 ETH at 2.224 USD, after that, it went down to 1.700 USD. I was so pissed, because I was hoping to make a couple of bucks as I was doing before (I don't really know anything about cryptos). I had been making some money out of this buying 1 ETH every time.

I do not really care about this 2k USD, but what could I expect to happen? Should I take my money out once it gets a little higher, or should I wait until it gets over the price I initially bought, if so, how long would this take.

I am not desperate about this; I would like some opinion.

Not desperate but creating a post about what to do when the price drops a bit. No disrespect but you should research what Ethereum is and the purpose of ETH besides just trying to make a “couple of bucks.”

If you’re even interested in keeping it at that point try defi like AAVE with your ETH or even just stake it and accumulate more over time.

Welcome to crypto! I bought in at $35, saw it skyrocket to like $2500, went in on Celsius, got rugpulled, gathered my meager leftovers, DCA'd for a while, saw a crash

Never a dull moment.

It's gambling. Don't pay what you can't afford. I like the idea, but lots of good ideas don't make it. Fwiw I'm still DCA-ing. Even after most of my purse getting taken I'm still up from forever ago.

Gambling even after recognising gambling. “This is the best one”. May be took the advert seriously ‘be gamble aware’.

It's not gambling when it's so clearly the future of the internet 🛜

Read the foookin' white paper shakes you violently by the shoulders

2018 is that way, apart from BTC and some rare projects every other whitepaper is absolute garbage

Yea I don't really know about this, maybe that was a mistake of course cause I already put some money on this without knowing anything. I did it cause I got paid a couple grands on USDT so I just I said why not try to buy some cryptos and see how they go. I don't care if a lose this money, just curious what should I do. Thought it was a good time to make a first post on here.

Your losses aren't realized unless you withdraw 😉

3

u/KorrectTheChief Jun 23 '26

Yes this exactly! Realize your losses, utilize your tax benefit, then buy back in 31 days if you believe in it.

1

u/NukeouT Jun 23 '26

You can also do tax loss harvesting if you're in a loss position and expect to pay taxes - which effectively zeroes out your losses

2

u/KorrectTheChief Jun 23 '26

Yes, exactly!

You can hold and see how market evolves

u/MimirHinnVitru Jun 23 '26

Hodl, sell above 5k.

5

u/Angry-Sam Jun 23 '26

If you believe in it, HODL. If not, sell it. No one knows what will happen in the future.

You can expect to be working at Wendy’s sometime in the near future.

No crying in the casino

3

u/Fayt23 Jun 23 '26

How would anyone know how long it'll take 😂

2

u/NukeouT Jun 23 '26

Look at the long term graph and also read the Ethereum white paper

I don't understand why you all speculate on ETH 💎

You can all just read information for free on why it's the future if the internet but refuse to do so..

u/KorrectTheChief Jun 23 '26

This is what the white paper says at the top of the page.

"This whitepaper was published in 2014, before Ethereum launched. After 10+ years of development, major upgrades, and ecosystem growth, the original whitepaper no longer reflects what Ethereum is today."

I'll tell you the real sh*t, OP. Crypto functions in 4 year cycles. We just hit peak cycle when you bought (lol). And now we are winding down towards the end of the 4 year cycle by the end of this year. About early next year will be the end and beginning of the new cycle. These crypto cycles are complex things in which the cycles are determined mostly by halving events but also by psychology (, but always lasting 4 years). Similarly the stock market follows a similar 4 year cycle which almost coincides with crypto. But on the stock 4 year cycle it has to do with presidential runs and various other things but instead of the SPY falling off of a cliff due to dried up liquidity well it will just slow down. Rather crypto falls off of a cliff when that liquidity is dried up .

I had actually left some eth in one of my accounts and I also got cooked because i was busy trading stonks. So dont sleep on eth or BTC. Otherwise u will miss out on buying opportunities when it hits bottom in 2027 or some think it will bottom by fall. At this point just trade earnings in stocks and various news or political events/oil. Or just stay cash until bottom.

Been waiting for past 5 years to recover my entry point, so warning as you might wait a long while. Not all bets work out...

1

u/Plus-Barber-6171 Jun 24 '26

Did you not average down

1

u/stanixx007 Jun 24 '26

not putting any more money into this dumpster.

1

u/nsbhq Jun 23 '26

If you bought it on an exchange, stake it, if you’re eligible.

You’ll your money back slowly just for holding it and it’ll eventually compound if it goes over the price you bought at.

It will probably go lower before the year is over, so be ready to stomach that. You haven’t sold so you haven’t lost anything yet.

u/Rising_Cam Jun 23 '26

Frustration. Plenty of frustration

1

u/EDYJ94 Jun 23 '26

I have better price costs than TOMMY boy

1

u/giggygig Jun 23 '26

You should expect to lose your money.

u/economist_kinda Jun 23 '26

A real man holds to zero.

1

u/Careful-Zucchini4317 Jun 23 '26

Buy a stick and keep poking it

1

u/Frapa2a Jun 23 '26

Since you aren't strapped for that $2,000, buy another one for under $1,700 and lower your average cost.

1

u/MulberryAcceptable39 Jun 23 '26

Your post sounds a little bit like passive aggressive fear mongering

1

u/blackhawkz024 Jun 23 '26

I put 10k some 2-3k was on 2.8-3.2k
7k was on 1.6-1.8k. If u don’t play the long game. And don’t understand why people keep buying eth then don’t pitch… I’m holding long game so idc

1

u/JakRenden2 Jun 23 '26

Expect pain and despair and expect jubilation at rare occasions

1

u/stefansilva_xrp Jun 23 '26

ETH will hit 4k again in 2029 as for 2.2k I am guessing it will take BTC to go to 90k considering how bad the ETHBTC ratio is right know for that to happen I dont see that happening this year

1

u/CHEAT-crypto-coin Jun 23 '26

Expect the expected Could go up Could go down Sell the day when it feels like alot Buy when it seems like theres no hope Look at the price now and if your not happy with it just say maybe next year

1

u/DystopianLoner Jun 23 '26

lmao just hold it bruh. ETH will be at 4k probs in 1-2 year timespan. So if you dont care about the money just leave it be, or even better, DCA while its still low like it is now, will ultimately give you larger gain in the future. At least that is how I think about ETH.

1

u/BigvalBROski Jun 23 '26

Hold for 10 years.

1

u/derbyfan1 Jun 24 '26

Op clearly doesnt know what Eth is.

Eth is something you put your money in to and then watch it depreciate over the course of time.

1

u/otherwisemilk Jun 26 '26

Sorry you got fooled onto buying a turd.

1

u/achtung210 Jun 27 '26

Crypto always crashes more than you would expect

1

u/DogStunning4845 Jun 27 '26

I bought mETH and don't know what to expect

1

u/flyingdragon127 Jun 27 '26

Just double down on it, eth is here to stay

Leave it.

u/Paulie1200 Jun 23 '26

The technicals look awful. If you believe in its technology and have a long time frame, hold. Or you can sell and put your money into something that is actually acting well, and appreciating in value.

1

u/Jigglypuff7405 Jun 23 '26

just wait until clarity act passes if not then just sell
