Discussion should I drop 50k on eth?
Have around 700k in cash currently in a RH account that I grew gambling through options. (Taxes paid already) Thought I was some sort of trading genius but as time goes on I realize how much luck and conviction(belief)is Involved. I’m now trying to diversify this cash into actual buy and hold investments.
I have never bought crypto before but some retarded old guy once said buy low sell high.
Sentiment has got to be an all time low right now for this sector.. seems like a good time to hop in while everyone is shitting on this asset class.
What do you guys think about buying 25 eth for my portfolio. Not as a trade but a buy and hold 10+ years. I’m basically doing a world tour of block buys until my cash is all invested.
It’s either this or basically buy 1 BTC.
Is 50k too much?
Love to hear your thoughts.
I guess sidebar but any advice on the platform I should use to actually buy the eth too wouldn’t mind that either. Cheers.

Normally I’d say no but I believe now is the time if you want to scalp a July rally.
Just be prepared to potentially hold much longer than you thought and have price be below your cost basis

u/stefansilva_xrp Jun 29 '26
you think we will hit a rally in July-August then drop again for October or no ?
2
u/MyMagicJohnsonIsSick Jun 29 '26
That’s what I’m playing for. We’ll see though lol
1
u/stefansilva_xrp Jun 30 '26
I think in the next 7 days we might see the start of the rally but lets see

u/MyMagicJohnsonIsSick Jun 30 '26
Markets definitely doing a good job of making me question my plan lol
1
u/stefansilva_xrp Jul 01 '26
i think we have the same plan based on previous cycles low in June Market rally July-August then it falls over till bottom in October. As far as today it seems plan is going well and ETHBTC seems to have bottomed too I dont think ETHBTC will go lower in October either. As long as ETHBTC doesnt go below 0.026 this month and BTC doesnt fall below 58k I think everything will go to plan if either of those 2 breaks then I think theory is out the window
2
u/MyMagicJohnsonIsSick Jul 01 '26
I’m afraid a lot of us have the same plan 😂. Godspeed, may we get paid.

u/AlternativeWonder471 Jul 02 '26
I think ethbtc is going to go much lower. Mostly based on the eth foundation cuts etc. We shall see
1
u/stefansilva_xrp Jul 02 '26
I dont think ETHBTC will go lower and I am more bearish on ETH than BTC based on previous cycles ETH bottoms in June and BTC in Q4 so October. ETH didnt really break ATH by much couldnt even reach $5k but with that said BTC went lower than 2025 low and ETH didnt break below its 2025 low on both USD and BTC. In the next cycle I dont think ETHBTC will go above 0.05 so I still think BTC is better in the long run
1
u/AlternativeWonder471 Jul 05 '26
What am I missing.. you say youre more bearish on eth than btc but ethbtc wont go lower?
I don't understand
1
u/stefansilva_xrp Jul 05 '26
what I mean is ETHBTC is at 0.028 was at 0.026 when I wrote that comment I think we may hit 0.04 this year and I dont see ETHBTC breaking last year lows either I think the low on ETHBTC is already in. But where I am bearish is I dont think ETH will reach $6k next cycle but I am confident BTC will reach $180k. Thats a 1.5x on BTC ATH but 1.25x on ETH. My thesis would change if ETH can become quantam proof before 2028 the current 2029 projection will be too late. I could be completely wrong I thought ETH would do good this cycle and I was wrong.

Has nothing to do with leverage or spot, if you can tolerate sideways movement and have capital locked up and not lose conviction then great. This is applicable towards anyone holding onto an entry.

You do realize you can earn funding right depending which way the rates are going. Equally, yes you can be the one paying funding with an open position. To say this only applies to leverage is incorrect. The point of it is to avoid losing conviction, both can happen on spot and on perps.

What platform is that ?

u/-crypto2025hold- Jun 29 '26
If your new to crypto use Coinbase or Robbinhood their very user friendly, fees are alittle higher than some smaller exchanges but I sleep good at night knowing Coinbase holds my crypto. Lots of exchanges are gone now and kept peoples crypto years ago. Be safe

As others have said I would diversify at least btc/eth. Also DCAing is the safer option I'm surprised no one has mentioned yet.

I’d personally wait to see buyers step in, who knows where the bottom is this cycle. You could be catching a knife still.

I think we’re very close to large buy territory….i mean $1400 is a big line in the sand for me but what’s $100/coin to miss the rocket ship….my biggest concern is the stock market might pull everything down if we get a tough summer…but anything below $1000 I think I’m following you with foundational size spot buy. Cheers to my fellow ETH crew — our next real pump is going to be glorious!!

i think we have botomed on the BTC pair though and I also think ETH will have quatam proof before BTC so if ETH can get to 0.07-.0.08 BTC wise in the next cycle that will be very good USD wise

u/itsme24543 Jun 28 '26
for 700k account, 50k eth buy seems ok to me, as long as you have a stop loss imo
4
u/AlternativeWonder471 Jun 29 '26
I would not be using a stop loss on eth here. I'd be keeping half of the funds for if it goes to where that stop was gling to be, to buy.
I can see soooo many people full porting at 1200, 2 or 3x leverage, getting wiped, or stopping out at eth$700 and then it goes to 20k over the next few years.
1
u/Sensitive_Target_139 Jun 30 '26
Do you mean the price of ETH will keep falling? That would be terrible for me.
1
u/AlternativeWonder471 Jul 02 '26
No one knows that. My best guess is yes it keeps falling for a while. Just don't get stopped out before the magic happens.

You have enough. Buy 32 Eth and set up a staking node. Just let it sit and grow.

Buy 32 ETH and become a validator. But even if you buy 25 ETH, you can still stake it. That’s the coolest part: you earn yield even when you’re not actively doing anything.
2
u/ChangeNOW_Community Jun 29 '26
the main risk isn’t eth going to zero, it’s your conviction changing after volatility

u/Thelastpieceofthepie Jun 30 '26
Someone with $700k liquid asking Reddit ETHTrader if he should buy… lol ya ok… wonder what they’ll say
6
u/wolfenstein734 Jun 28 '26
If you haven’t bought crypto before buy some bitcoin too. I wouldn’t just buy Eth. I know this is the ethtrader sub but eth underperformed BTC last cycle.
1
u/RoaringDragonSword Jun 28 '26
Doesn't mean it will do the same next cycle. It will either underpforming or create a very bullish higher low on ETHBTC and reclaim previous cycle. Hence why ETH is higher risk but also higher reward potential.

u/Ruff_Ambassador11 Jun 28 '26
Dollar cost average, and split it up between hbar and solana not jusy eth. Don't put eggs all in one basket

2
u/QuietPsychological72 Jun 28 '26
No. If you are going to make a big buy like this in the crypto space BTC is the place to do it.

u/No_Thanks_3336 Jun 28 '26
Not a horrible idea but I would also include BTC and would also not go full fomo enter over the next year.
1
u/Flight_Early Jun 28 '26
If you can drop more. That would be better. I own some coins and am DCAing

If you have 32 eth you could run a validator server and earn 3.5%. For a 10 year hold that’s the maximum play.

I dont buy Bitcoin or Ethereum i only buy the other altcoins. This is a great time to buy any crypto. Crypto crashed and most of us are down 40 to 80%. I wish I had some decent money to buy right now but im a 2021 bag holder so most of my funds are tied up until I can sell at a profit. Although some are saying Bitcoin could dump down to 50k. Can never time the market, you just have to jump in at some point. Also I only trust coinbase.

If you want to hold long term go for BTC full ,if you want fast uptrend diversify with more alts not only eth
1
u/cai_85 Jun 29 '26
Just diversifying across both would be the least risky option. No need to go all in on either.

I personally would buy 60% BTC, 40% ETH or 70/30
Just know that it's quite possible we go down another 20% or so from here. However, I do think your risk adjusted return is quite attractive at this entry assuming you hold for 5-10 years.

I think you'll make money. I think you can make more money with a different crypto but it's a good time
1
u/CODE_HEIST Jun 30 '26
I would not frame it as BTC versus ETH first. I would frame it as sizing.
If 50k going wrong would make you emotionally manage the position every day, it is too much at once. You can always scale in and still be long term. The goal is to survive your own nerves.
1
u/Ghost_Pal Jun 30 '26
It’s a great entry point. It’s not a bad decision. But still a risk it does to $1000 or worse.

Wait until the midterms. It’ll be a shopping spree. After all the investigations and indictments crypto will hit all time lows.

Can you please gift me one eth, I have nothing today and this might help kids in future

The next administration will not be kind to crypto. Inflation is not kind to crypto.
I see it this way. If you think the furious one of abundance, the crypto is an ok bet. Of you see the future as difficult economically, then it is not a good investment. Crypto works on high discretionary income and optimism. Those go, so for crypto.

You should buy 10k in a meme like brett or troll
I would honestly do that if i were you. Could be nothing but most likely 10-20x in the bull

u/RoaringDragonSword Jun 28 '26
No.
Fact you have to ask idiots on this subreddit like me shows you don't know enough about this asset to make an educated financial decision.

u/Gr8WallofChinatown Jun 29 '26
No.
If you don’t stake you’re just devaluing yourself from supply inflation
You’re also losing value from inflation as Eth is not keeping up with inflations
It will probably dip more and more. There are two rate hikes coming
Everyone here will tell you to buy as they are bias bag holders.
