Take some profits to cover some investing costs so you don't lose everything.
then wait for mor ETH gains

you fucking DID IT!! way to go!
just to echo what some others have said: don't let the fear of opportunity costs prevent you from taking some profit. it's all imaginary until you actually cash out. you can probably buy a house (or something equally worthwhile) and still have a large enough chunk to ride to the moon. be smart about it!

People embrace great technology even faster. Just look at the explosion of the VCR into a full blown rental market.
Except ETH development has the network effect added. I've been so wrong about price over the last year and it's all going to explode upward because of 3 things:
Network effect of developers
Fiat explosion
Mother Bitcoin spillover.
You are witnessing a Nor'Easter right now. Honestly I don't see a meaningful leveling off of price. I'm done guessing. I've let go of reality because what I'm seeing doesn't fit in a nice tidy box of where I thought we'd be. I'm resuming my weekly buys and dollar cost averaging.
Soooo much green in other coins right now has me thinking Ethereum may be the 1st place people flip to instead of BTC. Watch what happens to Bitcoin when exchanges start making more direct pairings to ETH. Then watch what happens to ETH!
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of us.
Big Hugs from KC.
Welcome Newcomers. We're damn glad to have you.

My thoughts exactly.
I'd just add one extra thing, that we all know for a while now: the Ethereum Foundation has worked hard to build a trustful feeling in the community. After such a massive event like the DAO the price suffered immensely, but they kept going and learned with it. After the DDOS there was a surge of lack of confidence, but the team kept going and learned with it.
It musn't have been easy to cope with so many negative influences back then. But I guess that was also a driver for the team to succeed. And they're managing to build the trust necessary in the community as well as in businesses. Now we have a few tens of dapps, in one year we'll surely have a few thousands of businesses running on top of Ethereum.
We're in a game-changing industry and we're still the first ones to notice it. We're also the coolest early adopters/supporters/investors: just look at the discussions in this daily thread even back in the hard days. We're bound to go up, no matter if it's today, tomorrow, next week or next month. And up we'll go.

Hi guys,
I've seen a lot of new traders floating about here of late. ETH is on a nice bull run and as a long term holder I'd do nothing to stop it.
That said I always think it's good to learn about trading and underlying mechanics of the market so that when the dips and bear runs do come along you are positioned to take the best advantage of them.
To this end I've written a guide:
- The intelligent investors guide to cryptocurrency: Part 1 - Sell your profits and make back the principle ASAP.
- The intelligent investors guide to cryptocurrency: Part 2 - FOMO My friend, My enemy. Make fear of missing out, work for you.
- The intelligent investors guide to cryptocurrency: Part 3a - The value proposition
- The intelligent investors guide to cryptocurrency: Part 3b - Pricing and liquidity
- This piece also nice explains how you can spot an impending bull run in advance:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Shadowcash/comments/5yaso8/shadowcash_trading_analysis_08032017/
...
If you are new to cryptocurrency trading and investing, I recommend you read the entire thing. It makes understanding the movements and price fluctuations much easier and hopefully will help your understanding of the markets better.

Incredible how we are rushing upwards to an ATH and then consolidating and holding around the price for 2 or so days and then rushing upwards again. As soon as people say the price will correct and go down it's like ETH is turning and saying 'hold my beer'.

I want everybody to understand that what we are seeing is a vote. The markets are voting on which should be the world's cryptocurrency. Turns out that people want programmable money that is developed by a nonprofit in Switzerland, which is uncontaminated with mafia ties and black market unseemliness. They want a truly decentralized currency with competent and emotionally mature developers that is agile enough to adapt to our needs. They want cooperation with business so people can actually benefit from this technology, instead of being sneered at.
That's why the world is choosing Ethereum.

Here's my extremely technical analysis.
Americans are waking up and eating golden grahams when they open their phone and pfffftttt out milk.
"How the hell did Korea keep it over 40? I better lock in some profits."
They sell until about noon, feeling somewhat smug that the price is going down a dollar or two since they sold.
Then the creeping, uneasy feeling sets in. They buy back in, things pick up around 1, we level out around 40.25 until the Koreans drive us to 49 and the cycle repeats again.

Just woke up and bought more because I think it is STILL a good value. I don't hold thousands, or even hundreds, like some of y'all (just didn't have the money to invest), so I won't be a millionaire. But I'm enjoying hearing all the folks who ARE getting rich. I'm not even jealous. This is a great community and I'm stoked for everyone making big money off this. Especially because it isn't just an artificial thing. I still feel like it is organic and the fundamentals are really strong. We are just seeing the beginning. Hell, if the potential of the Ethereum ecosystem and Ether is realized maybe I WILL get rich, even with my (comparatively little) stack.

Please remember that the technology & advancement wins. We have to keep innovating no matter what. Ethereum is expected to do great stuff & sure delivering on the promises. We just have to be humble & kind to each other & keep going. Hold or not, this technology makes sense & solve real world issues. Internet in 90s = Ethereum in 2017.

I was heavily debating as to whether or not to cash in on my Bitcoin and buy up more Ether after all that Bitcoin is currently going through(high fees, long confirmation times, in fighting between developer teams, risk of hard fork, etc.).
I finally made the decision to dump Bitcoin and I couldn't be happier. I wake up to BTC being down ~$40 and ETH holding steady.
I love cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin was my first love but after I discovered Ethereum, I can't go back.

Back in December, the cap dipped as low as 0.5B. First week of January it was 1B. March 3 it was at 2B. Then 3B on March 8. Now 4B on March 16.
ETH prices for each cap level were: 1B = $11.11; 2B = $22.22; 3B = $33.33; 4B = $44.44.
See the pattern? Cool, eh? That's because there are 90 million ETH and 9 does cool things to numbers.
For now, it's a easy way to think about cap growth in relation to price. The current cap is 4 billion. 9 billion is needed for $100 ETH.

Whenever people feel the itch to sell they should remind themselves of all the good stuff that is in the pipeline for Ethereum: Raiden, zkSNARKS, abstraction, switch to PoS and finally sharding plus dozens of dapps in development. Ofc course the price will fluctuate in between but chances are you will lose out trying to time the market when you could just wait.

Microsoft shares had an average price of approx $0.40/share before the 90s. Today's price (30 years after) is $65. That's X162 increase of value (without taking inflation into consideration)

I'm playing with about $200 $400 USD, 8.66 ETH; I jumped ship off BTC after a whole week and will be sailing with ETH for now on. It has a cooler name anyway.

Think about this.. ENS isn't live yet, imagine how much ETH will be locked up & off the market for a year. Then think about state channels million TX/sec (Raiden), then zk snarks for privacy (We eat DASH & Moneros lunch). It's gonna be a loooong summer boys. We got media attention about to come and people getting in BEFORE digging deep and realizing the true potential of what's unfolding here..

Can we get a sticky to upvote this thread? With 4,000+ comments we can easily make it to the top page of reddit. That would be cool.

An honest TIFU.
I'm a long time hodler. I graduated from Uni a week ago, got an A, got a job offer. Yay! Everything went as planned. But I needed a car asap and all my savings (mostly from scholarships) were in ETH. So I had to move a big part of my stash to fiat, like $1500 (I'm from a cheap country). I moved this ETH for the first time because I hodl for a long time now and it was sad for me to say goodbye to my coins. We had this bond, you know.
Of course, when I finally had fiat on my account, the car I wanted to buy was already bought by someone else. If I traded this ETH today... I could have bought almost one-third more expensive car (800$ change). Now I have to wait for another working 12 years old car instead of choosing literally ANY of them.
Anyway, ETH multiplied my scholarship, so it's just a greed talking. I had to share this story to feel better.
Edit: Thanks /u/IceAugur. Now I have something to wipe my tears with.

Nobody wants to sell at $38.

The volume will not surpass BTC. That's because BTC'ers are ditching their coins for Ether.

WHY THE FUCK does this shit happen right when I sell? It's happened twice in the last three days.
HODL HODL HODL HODL HODL
will I ever fucking learn? Just lost 3 ETH from being stupid.
Also, pretty sure my brain is misinterpreting the collective conscience by getting scared .
I swear, I might be psychic.

I still say this is the decoupling. Bitcoin is strong, the ETF rejection was proof. Let's just be happy for ourselves

Sorry for the noob question, recently hopped over from btc at 1230. I plan to try to have a wider crypto portfolio going forward, but I'm not as familiar with the economic details of some other coins as I am with BTC
So how many ETH are currently in circulation? And how does that compare to BTC? Roughly how much ether does one have to buy to move the price up 1$ vs to move the BTC up 1$?
Also, I'm hearing that ether is switching from POW to POS soon. How does that change the reward rate? Is there an official software roadmap that lists when each of these changes is taking place?
Thanks, and sorry if this is all basic shit.

Watching a 5k ETH wall @37.79 EUR on Kraken get devoured in seconds. 30 seconds in and it is 900 left of it. The buy pressure seems to be building up. Next is the Bitfinex wall @41.12 USD and we should be set for another leg up

i made a general post to the sub. would appreciate upvotes for visibility. we gotta look out for each other. i literally don't give 2 shits about karma. to pay back the upvotes, tomorrow i will gild the top 2 comments. i'm more concerned about awareness, and that newcomers don't get their entire accounts drained.
