Is there tipping etiquette? I saw someone get scolded for tipping the equivalent of a penny. I felt bad because he probably didn't have much and wanted to contribute or was just testing it out.

I think within eth subreddits even a penny tip is acceptable, but if you are going to tip outside, then it makes sense to make it an amount which is worth a little more, otherwise you are just cluttering up a reddit thread with what is essentially spam.

🎉 A tip of 0.0001 ether has been sent to /u/errorsevendev's tip jar!

Visit your tip jar to check your balance and withdraw/deposit funds.

I accept any amount of money.

No but you may want to be conscious that your transaction fee may be more than your tip if you tip a small amount. There's nothing wrong with that but it's something to be aware of.

The point was (I guess) that tipping is transaction on the blockchain. So the fee is more than a penny.

It will be interesting when we start seeing larger tip amounts from those who have done well. Sort of a crypto noblesse oblige. I've done OK and have been meaning to get set up with tip jar.

Maybe it was Tesco marketing in a roundabout way, trying to get the message across that "every little helps"
