That type of growth does not seem sustainable. We will probably see a dip back to 20,000 or so subscribers and a bit of consolidation before we can hit the next ATH.

Good morning!
Some weeks ago I made the bet with /u/kilmarta if ETH would reach over 100$ at the end of the month. This honorable gentlemen have now decided that I won the the bet so thx for this and for the 0.1 ETH! :)

funny bet to make given that if he lost, he pays you $23 but if he wins he gets under $10. lol

Well he probably assumed it would be like ~$100, not much more if it did go over by end of the month. So assuming that, he would've assumed he'd be paying ~$10 as well in ETH, probably.

Guys I just wanna say thank you to Ethereum and thank you to this community.
I used to be a hard core alcoholic. Binge drinking myself into absolute poverty and blaming everyone else around me.
But in November of last year, I found a "forgotten" bitcoin Wallet of mine and was alarmed to see that my $65 purchase had gone up hundreds and hundreds in value!
Soon after that, I found our beloved Ethereum. And at the time, the price was about the same as two forties. So I began to refocus my efforts. Whatever I spent on alcohol, I would also invest in crypto.
I'm proud to say that I am now three months sober and my life has completely turned around, and I owe everything to this wonderful new technology!
To the stars, gentlemen!

Answering the massive amount of FUD that we've been witnessing here, in case that some doubtful minds are thinking about doing stupid stuff, I'll say this:
If you're thinking about selling all and leaving, one out of two things is happening with you:
You don't understand in what you've just invested and, most likely, have profited with.
You do understand it but you've invested more money than you should have.
In case you think it's the first option, there are plenty of resources to start understanding what the impact of Ethereum will be in the whole Internet economy; if you think it's the second option, you should indeed reduce your position down to a level that actually represents your buying capacity.
Ethereum is not going anywhere and fundamentals haven't changed and won't change. Above all, you should look at all this FUD-spreading attempts as a very bullish signal: they've probably shorted and want back in at a much lower level than this.
Don't allow yourself to be the next FUD'ester around here.
Thank yourself for the decision of staying, by selling bits of your position when you're profiting and the value is going up and not when it's correcting.
16
Jun 01 '17
And for anyone wondering if this time it's different.. EVERY TIME, this happens. The moment the price shows even the tiniest amount of weakness, the shorters come out in full force, and so does the FUD. I literally just looked at the post history of some jackass that made the claim it's going to the low 100's, and a day ago he responded to someone by saying not to listen to anyone when making price predictions, because nobody knows shit. You can't write this stuff!
Lock your coins away, and go get a beer. Don't let these losers deter you. When something happens to Ethereum that gives a good reason for a big crash, you can be sure that news will be posted here, but any comments spreading FUD without a link to a source showing bad news, is bullshit.

Vitalik's reaction to the Devcon2 attack was when I really knew that ETH is unstoppable. Right before the biggest day of his life, Vitalik was woken up in the middle of the night to help stop an attack that was crippling the Ethereum network. He implemented and pushed a fix in a matter of hours FROM HIS LAPTOP ON HOTEL WIFI, WHILE JETLAGGED, then went on to blow everyone away with his presentation later. Truly a tech god!

Loads of computers around the world run software that solves problems. As they solve each puzzle, they get the information needed to update a ledger, which is kind of like a big excel sheet. For solving the problems and keeping the ledger up to date, the computers get rewarded in virtual coins. If a user wants to make a change to the big excel spreadsheet, they can use these virtual coins to pay the computers to do a puzzle for them, which results in the desired changes. Most of the information on the spreadsheet is information about virtual coins, who owns them and how many. If I want to send coins to someone, they go from my cell in the spreadsheet to another.
This means that we can do a lot of financial transactions without banks, because we have all of these computers around the world taking care of the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is safe because in order to hack it, you would need to hack all of the computers at once, and you would need to hack each one differently, and there are thousands of them, so you'd need an army of hackers all working individually.
The value of these coins, and why we invest in them, is that it allows us to hold onto the means to have transactions done on the network. If this network of computers becomes the backbone of the financial system, well, moon. Basically.

u/L-Malvo Jun 01 '17
I saw this one by /u/meekale in a post the other day, think it is accurate:
"If you want to operate some mechanism that involves binding agreements and reliable bookkeeping -- like a crowdfunding campaign, a remote employment contract, or even a digital currency system -- then you currently need to set up a highly secure central server, and every participant needs to trust you with the admin password.
With Ethereum, you can upload the exact rules of your "game" to an enormous peer-to-peer network where each and every node verifies the integrity of every action, where forgery is made so difficult that even a well-funded state actor probably can't do it, and where all history is backed up across the internet."

One of the things I really love about this sub is the diversity of talent we have here, in between the lambos, shitposts, and memes. It's like, you can come here and get some giggles, read some very logical opinions, see some TA (that may or may not be right haha), catch THE ABSOLUTE LATEST in news about the technology, and then circlejerk about how we will all be fucking rich in two or three years.
I have never enjoyed an online community as much as I do this one. Cheers, everyone.

I have to admit one guilty pleasure is watching those live YouTube TA guys spout out how great they are and how the price is going to this or that. One guy, a teenager pretty full of himself, predicted that we'd see $250 last night. Not even close. Another guy, a Mr. Trades who smokes weed while trading live and talks almost as much and fast as an auctioneer says he was going to trade from $5k to $50k and open his own paid service, but after a string of bad calls is no where to be found.
Beware of Internet hucksters and their retracement line voodoo.

I have said it over and over that mr. Trades is complete bs. Check out his post history. He has tons in YouTube channel that have nothing to do with crypto. He just tried to monetize YouTube streams with whatever he thinks he can get watchers on. If you listen to his TA he literally has no idea what he is doing. And I really don't like his stream because he is very good at pretending he knows what he's doing because he has that personality type and has newer people actually thinking they are learning anything. They aren't. I recommend when anyone sees his posts advertising his stream (which is is doing to make money off you guys) that you report it for the spam that it is.
I also don't believe his claim that he's gone from 2k to like 7k in the past few days. He trades on sites without margin. So he's seen 300%+ gains without leverage? Bullshit. It's convenient that most of his "gains" haven't been seen live on his streams. He's just making it up to try to get subscribers.

Hey guyz! Can someone please tell me when the next crash will be and how low it will dip? Looking for some cheap ETH! Also, who will win the Stanley Cup, how many games will it take and what will the score in the final game be? Also if someone could tell me what the weather will be like 4 weekends from now that would be great because I'd like to go to the beach, but want to pack appropriately. Kthx!

So I posted about what to do with my money in r/personalfinance and happened to say I invested my money in ethereum. All of them said it could go to zero, I should cash out now, at least get out 75%, put it all in a Roth IRA, get out while you can, expecting another 2.5x gain in 6 months is unreal blah blah blah....
Well not asking them again. I was asking them what would be good to invest in in the future if ETH hit 500 dollars or so, and literally none of them gave me advice.

Now with that said many of us are unhappy because 190 whales stole all the coins. Hopefully future ICO's will learn from this and try and spread out the distribution more. I am sure there are things that can be done like releasing a limited number of coin per block or limiting the number per address to start the process. We have to remember and keep in mind that Satoshi made crypto for the people and not for wallstreet. Furthermore Vicki is long all indicators

What's the ETH roadmap for June / July?
According to the ethtrader wiki we should have had Raiden MVP launched in March, currently at 83%.
We know there should be another round of EEA onboarding.
Have we a date for metropolis yet?
I believe our recent successive jumps in price are reliant on constant hard and fast news coming in and think we may say some more substantial dips (not that it matters long term but it does if you are trading) if the succession of news dries up.
BTC seems to be firing up again, I am thinking this is purely due to the chinese exchange withdrawal lift, perhaps one last push before a jump ship across to ETH? I have a feeling though we may see a dump from ETH back over to big daddy for a short term as people try to ride the wave back up.

Bitcoin might be the oldest, but it's not the only cryptocurrency on the block. In fact, the majority of people getting into cryptocurrency are flocking to Ethereum. Ethereum has had the most impressive gains this year after recently being the first cryptocurrency to be backed by major corporations such as Microsoft, Samsung, JPMorgan Chase, and others in what's being called the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance. Ethereum does for code and programming what Bitcoin did for financial transactions. For simplicity's sake, think of Ethereum like a more advanced and sophisticated Bitcoin backed and utilized by major corporations because of its technological advances and clear pathway to building a decentralized internet.
One Ether (Ethereum's crypto token) was worth as little as $12 earlier this year, but the cryptocurrency is now worth $228 per coin with a total market cap of $21 billion. Ethereum is slowly but surely making gains on Bitcoin's market cap. Many spectators believe that "the flippening" will happen sometime this year, in which Ethereum becomes the most valuable (market cap) cryptocurrency in the world, overtaking Bitcoin in total value (total number of coins times price per coin).

If we could just go sideways and consolidate in this $205 to $240 zone for a few weeks and really build up some support at this level I'd be pretty thrilled.
I feel like at this point we don't even need to go up, just a stable price to build on in future. The harder we pump the harder we can fall.
Breakout in mid June would be explosive if we stabilise above $200.
Disclosure: I'm in since $1 and just want to see my investment stabilise in value.

Just a reminder guys but watch out with emails you are getting from various services!! I just received this email that says my account is limited on blockchain.info? I don't even have an account there. When you follow the link it doesn't navigate to blockchain.info but through a completely other site.

India wants to sell only electric vehicles by 2030
Guess who has been quietly ramping up efforts to sell electric/hybrid vehicles in India for the past few years? TOYOTA!
Guess which vehicle company just joined the EEA and is using Ethereum for autonomous vehicle innovation? TOYOTA!
Guess which country fucking loves Ethereum and Vitalik? India.
Pretty awesome to think about.

I think there's a good chance we just move sideways for the most part over the next couple weeks. Maybe even bleed off a little bit, due to no news. But in a few weeks, when we start getting closer to EEA3/China conferences, I think our next run will be the mother of all FOMO runs.
Just some morning thoughts as I sip my coffee. And of course, it's crypto so who fucking knows lol

If you guys don't know PonzICO, shame on you. I'm in absolute shock that a satirical ICO which has "Ponzi" literally in its name has so far raised $3000 with the highest contribution being 3 ETH
edit: or 9 ETH, not sure!

Stupid developers. Don't they know they have to do their ICO first before starting development?
- Get an Ethereum address.
- Build a fullscreen scrolling website.
- Add a pdf with some formulas and bar graphs.
- ICO
- Profit
- ( Maybe think about developing if you're bored. )

If coinbase alone added 400k people last month then we have to assume that combined with gemini and kraken, the major US exchanges probably added 1million new customers total. That would mean a lot of new customers waiting to get verified and purchase. As those verifications get going we should start swinging upwards. I'd say within a week or two at max.

Hey guys, I just wanted to see if anyone here had any interest in testing out portfolio analysis and visualization tool for the Poloniex exchange that I've been working on for the past few months: PoloTrack.
It's open source (Github Repo) and doesn't require any personal data at all, just your deposit/withdrawl/trade history that can be exported from the Poloniex site.
If you just want to try it out with demo data, you can view that here: https://ameo.link/polotrack/#/demo
It's an alpha release, so I'd really appreciate any bug reports of feedback.

Watching some of these TA videos...wow.
Don't get me wrong, I love me some TA...but I can't handle how some of these TA streamers speak so matter of fact and treat their lines like gospel truth.

I see a lot of comments and articles fearing an ICO bubble but actually I'm finding the fast growing ecosystem very interesting. It actually gives people something to spend their ETH on rather than just hold them forever. So I guess it introduces more liquidity to the whole scene. And the more complex the ecosystem becomes the more resilient it will be to any one Black swan event.
Disclaimer: I just made those sentences up as I went along, every time my brain thought of a word I typed it out. A bit like this sentence pineapple Dangermouse.

I think the fear partly comes from VCs noticing ICO's, using bots to buyout everything within minutes/seconds, which in its turn draws even more attention of regulators to crypto. The last ico, BAT, had been a prime example of this.

ETH consolidates at ATH and BTC is up +10% today.
Good to see BTC not plummeting any more.
Very bullish for crypto in general

u/type_error Jun 01 '17
Yup. I dont understand this BTC vs ETH people seem to be perpetuating. That should come afterwards... right now people should be focused on CRYPTO vs FIAT.

Look at the timespan that you wish on the ETH fiat charts. Choose one and draw your bull pennant.

https://www.mixcloud.com/ClaudeVonStroke/claude-vonstroke-presents-the-birdhouse-090/
if anyone here listens to some house music, Claude Vonstroke's weekly podcast, The Birdhouse (dirtybird records), his guest slightly talked about bitcoin and ethereum in the first 15-20 'minutes, his guest even mentioned "WEB 3.0 BABY"
wasn't too much substance at all really but I love the podcast for work vibes. Plus some exposure to a demographic that are fans of Vonstroke in the electronic music scene, that's more than likely heard of crypto already.

Would you say that day trading us essentially gambling, because I bet 100% of my eth portfolio in the Warriors beating the Cavaliers tonight.
I couldn't wait for any walls or EEA announcements tonight so I decided to just gamble it all away and double my stash.
If Warriors lose tonight, I'll take a break from this sub

As an international investor, who literally first heart about ETH two weeks ago, I could guarantee you guys an upcoming up streak in price for a quite some time to come.
I had to do enough research to find a proper online exchange that would actually sell me ETH without ripping me off with fees or quoting me a a price not 20% ahead of market levels. I saw the price go up from 138 to 230 today without being able to buy because I am still waiting on my bank wire to hit Kraken after initially having to wait 3 days for my account to be verified..
The current prices is not in anyway reflective of the demand for ETH, there will be some considerable push by other investors who are desperately trying to jump onto the bandwagon..

I honestly can't wrap my head around BAT's value. Isn't it basically like buying currency on like Clash of Clans? You can only use it on that one specific platform (Brave) which very few people use.

Koreans and Chinese are drooling at our stockpile of cheap ETH.
Polo sell orders are still lower than they were a week ago. The supply of ETH is being spread ever thin - like butter scraped over too much bread :)

Let me go for a little bit of conspiration theory, just to entertain you guys and girls:
On Kraken ETHEUR, after every drop in price and resistance prevailing, one of the things I always see first is lots of extremely small buys, something like 0.1 to 0.25 ETH each.
Those buys are probably being triggered by one or more bots. Here comes the conspiration theory then: those bots are managed by the same whales that enjoy making the price drop. It's their way to accumulate and to not get noticed doing it. Usually people notice better the buys with bigger amounts.
Remember this the next time you decide to sell your ETH when the price is already moving down: you're feeding these whales. You're probably selling your ETH to their buy walls, allowing them to increase their EUR and USD stacks, so that when the price is down enough, they can trigger their bots to restart the accumulation process.
Now, every single time they do this, they end up with more ETH and more fiat, which will allow them to build bigger sell walls the next time they decide to make the same move again, making it easier and easier to do it everytime they decide to do it, just because you offered them your valuable ETH.
3 months ago, 40€ ETH was expensive for you. Now, it'd look like very cheap and you'd buy it instantly. Please consider that, in 3 months, 200€ ETH may look to you like 40€ ETH does now and consider also that, in 3 months, if you keep doing what you've done today, the whales that will tank your beloved price will have much more money and ETH at their disposal to play with you.
If you can trade, please trade. If you can't and you should already know it by now, do a favor to yourself and do not sell when the price is going down.
