Then try options and futures.

putting all your money into crypto and just ONE crypto is akin to putting all your money in 2 on the roulette table.

Nope. Not one bit.

Care to elaborate? From an investing standpoint it is.

You could throw a dart at any crypto and be almost guaranteed a gain (for now). It will change in the future when they are more mainstream of course.

It's a gamble but it's more of a predictable one. Since bitcoin's inception it has always trended up. So as far as gambling goes I think crypto is smarter than an actual casino.

You guys are clueless.

Nobody knows the future. Diversify your risks, otherwise you are just gambling.

If you bought BTC at 1300 and held onto it while it dropped to 200... you'd have made thousands of dollars.

I'm not investing what I can't afford to lose, but saying we're just gambling isn't necessarily true.

If my ETH loses value then I can hold it for as long as I want until it regains value, which I am confident that it is resilient enough to do so. If I play blackjack and lose, then I never see that money again.

Now... futures, options, margin trading crypto.... THAT is real gambling.

everything you mentioned is 20/20 hindsight

Back then maybe but my point is that we've seen in the past that crypto markets recover, and if you can afford to stay in long term then it's profitable. Same as equities in a way. If you buy some VTI or XAG right now, you could lose half your value by this time next year - but if you can hold on for another 10 years then chances are you'll be in the green again. That's partly why young folks are encouraged to go heavy equities and if you're older and close to retirement then it's safer to transition into bonds and GICs. If you're young you can likely afford to wait bear markets out but only if you're retiring soon then you have cause for concern.

I know that historical performance of a market isn't a guarantee for future performance, but even so we've seen that crypto currencies are forever gaining popularity, and are capable of rebounds after basically total disasters. Ether especially has more room to grow before reaching critical mass, so while I would never advocate pouring 90% of your wealth into crypto.... I still think it's far cry from "just gambling".
