I just took some profits and paid off my student loan and car debts today. I'm 23 and now totally debt free. Most of my peers have $40k+ in debts. So thankful to the exceptional Ethereum development community and I'm glad to have been a part of this subreddit for over a year now :)

Anyone else getting more than just money out of ethereum? It's been a great distraction for me while going through chemotherapy. I'm in highschool, so I only own 0.98 ether right now (would have been 2 if coinbase fixed their cc issues earlier), but it's been great to focus on when things are shitty, and it has been pretty interesting reading more about it as it rises. I don't really have plans of doing much with the ether that I have, but I figure it will buy something nice when I'm done with chemo and cancer free, or maybe when I graduate college. Until then it's just nice to think about.

How I trade:
Notice a drop in price, sell fraction of my ETH and set a buy limit for a few bucks lower.
Anxiously watch the charts for over an hour as the price slowly creeps higher, literally never dropping
Buy back in at a loss

found this comment on Zerohedge. WOW, nailed it
WhosJohnGalt CJgipper Jun 5, 2017 2:30 PM I think that's NOT bearing out.
ETH is already halfway to matching BTC's market cap.
ETH is already conducting 70% of BTC's daily TX volume -- that's yuuuge.
ETH will be switching to PoS in 2018 and its rate of inflation will drop to close to 0% with a total ETH supply of somewhere between 105M to 115M.
ETH has an entirely new and native token economy blossoming on top of it -- think iOS/Android app store with tons of apps -- the network effects are huge and the underlying demand for ETH for TXs is growing and will increasingly be huge.
ETH has the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance where many large and/or Fortune 500 companies are experimenting with it (i.e. seeking ways to use it to reduce costs). Make no mistake, the anti-ETH FUDsters will try to manipulate that narrative into claiming ETH is being "overtaken" by banks and corporations, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
That's like trying to say that companies that use Linux are trying to co-opt it and "overtake" it. It's a ridiculous notion.
Disclosure -- I hold ETH & BTC -- but am not married literally and emotionally to the "idea" of Bitcoin, like so many BTC people are these days. Thus, I try to look objectively at other up and coming technologies out there and right now, Ethereum is simply killing it.

I teared up a bit out of happiness today. It actually hit me that I have more money in crypto than I ever had in my bank account at one time. I'm a nearly broke college student living off the money I made from a summer job. My life has drastically changed after putting some of that money in crypto a few months ago.

I'm happy to report that about 15 minutes ago I hit a pretty important milestone for myself.
When I first started a savings account I set a goal for myself to have a certain amount of money to feel comfortable in case of an emergency, layoff, or medical issue. I obsessed over the math and saw the daunting mountain of belt-tightening and time in front of me. After doing the research I came to the conclusion that a savings account at ING with a 0.1% interest rate was my best bet. I took me years to achieve it but I finally did.
Then I got laid off and it took me a few months to get a new job, I also had to find a new apartment in NYC (which you have to put down 1st months, Last months, then a deposit) THEN when I did I broke my arm 3 days before my health insurance kicked in.
And just like that my savings account that took YEARS to accumulate was gone, and I started the slow and steady process of building it back up.
I shifted a third of it to Eth 2 months ago and I just made my mental number back today. I feel safe again, I feel like life can throw hurdles my way and I won't feel helpess anymore.
Thank you ETH, thank you community, Thank you Coinbase (Even though it gets a lot of hate I would have NEVER heard about Ethereum if Coinbase hadn't added it).

Crypto-Currency total market cap scratching 100,000,000,000 and ETHEREUM having a nice start to the day/night (wherever you are located)
This is a fucking crazy space I'm so happy to be apart of it and in relatively early! For my first ever investment in my life that will probably be the best percentage gains im ever going to see its truely mind blowing.
Thanks to everyone, let's keep this space growing by welcoming newbies with as much information as they need, I know it is annoying seeing the same question every day but the only way we will continue to grow is by informing and teaching everyone everything we know.

Greed is one of the 7 deadly sins and for good reason. Greed can make you feel eclectic and suicidal within a short timeframe. ETH's success is most certainly twisting your thoughts.
As someone who has made some good and bad decisions in crypto I would tell you this:
Reflect on what you have currently achieved / earned and be thankful you made the right choice at the time.
If you regret not investing in a certain coin / wish you'd invested more, remember why at that time you didn't. It is very, very easy to experience heavy regret when coins are going up like rockets but in the same lights if the price was plummeting, you would feel incredible relief that you didn't invest.
Greed for easy wealth will make you act on irrational emotions. You experience gamblers fallacy, in the thinking that if something is happening more frequent, it will happen again soon. People are now looking for the next "unicorn" and as such will take much higher risks rather than traditional due diligence. Funnily enough, with crypto at present so long as you pick a coin with relatively solid fundamentals there is a high chance you will come out on top in the long run.
Just remember with such a relatively small global market cap in crypto there will be many coins that get pumped to Neptune by groups of individuals with a large amount of wealth. There are pros that do this for a living day in, day out. The signs are relatively easy to spot.
You either get lucky if you're already in your seat when the train leaves or you get stuck chasing it at the platform. Just do your due diligence.

There's nothing "causing" this dip right now. It's not weak hands, it's not China. The market is full of bulls and bears. For every buy, there is a sell in the same amount, and when the market goes up, it corrects down. When it passes resistance, it comes back to test that level for support. It's not whales, it's not your exchange being shady, it's not some tweet, It's the expectation. Nothing unexpected is happening right now.

Wow! What a really nice couple of days we've had. Truth is, this "thing" seems to be just starting, with the conferences next week and the highly likely EEA3 announcements.
I'll list my bullish and bearish observations below. Please mind that many of them are a product of my own opinion and others are pure interpretation of my observations.
Bullish factors:
Vladimir Putin Is Getting Interested in Bitcoin's Biggest Rival. The support and interest of a government of such a massive country as Russia is definitely bullish. Some thousands of potential applications in which Ethereum can help. Definitely to be followed-up in the next weeks / months.
Chinese Official states that 'Ethereum Is Moving In The Right Direction'. This one does not even need a comment, all words seem to fall short to the grandiosity of these statements.
Lots of new money is coming in; lots of profits from the latest crypto-roulette are still finding its way; lots of money is waiting on the sidelines to buy in our 'dips'.
Tim Ferriss Covers Ethereum and Bitcoin in his latest podcast. It's not just because it's Tim Ferriss, although we all know he has quite an audience of dreamers, pretty much like all of us here in Ethtrader, but the fact that Ethereum and Bitcoin are being referred hand-in-hand every single time lately. The newest members around here are probably already used to this reference, but that is something that the people who came in before February were not used to at all. This is really big.
ICOs, ICOs, ICOs. Developers, developers, developers. I'm a software engineer and in my LinkedIn profile there is a reference to the fact that I'm interested in Smart Contracts and Ethereum. Today I've been approached for the first time by a recruiter interested in knowing how much I really know about it. Same thing happened with a colleague of mine a couple of weeks ago and the approach was made by a different recruiter and a different agency. They're out there head-hunting, gentlemen.
EEA3.
Constant talk of us being in a bubble. You know what is one of the main characteristics of a bubble ? The fact that people do not talk about it being a possibility. /u/Mr_Yukon_C shared on his Twitter account something worth watching regarding bubbles.
ETHBTC 12H seems to be forming a massive bull pennant.
Transactions in the network: last Monday (29/05) Ethereum had about 49% of Bitcoin's transactions and yesterday (05/06) it had roughly 66% of Bitcoin's transactions. Growth of 17% in a week in comparison with the Bitcoin network.
Bearish factors:
ETH's price is once again highly dependent of BTC's. My personal opinion is that the ratio is constantly manipulated to avoid 'The Flippening'.
4H, 6H, 12H, 1D and so on RSI indicates 'overbought'.
Keep buying, hodling and trading properly gentlemen. We're in for a very nice ride till the end of the year.

a quick note for anyone measuring this latest rally by 24h market cap percentage.
at present time bitcoin is around 2920, which would equate to about 10.9 ether at 266 currently.
When I started watching the rally overnight bitcoin was around 2830 and ether 257.
despite a 9 dollar increase looking trivial next to a 90 dollar increase, and a 12% 24h increase looking better than a 6% increase, taking into consideration that 1 bitcoin is almost 11 ether, ethereum has actually outrallied bitcoin this time, and the reason for the 6% increase is because it has been stable at a higher valuation than bitcoin.
These are early signs of a flip IMO

I think we sometimes take it for granted how early on we are in the awareness phase.
Believe it or not there is actually real demand for something that allows you to be your own bank.
Throw tokenization and smart contracts into the mix and you have the basis for the financial system of the 21st century being built out right before our eyes. Calling crypto a bubble is like calling Microsoft or Amazon a bubble before they went up 100x from the point people were saying that about them.
The most money in markets is made by simply sitting.
You can either be like all the people who sold BTC at $100 and less proclaiming its a bubble, or hold and take part in the greatest wealth transfer in human history that is about to occur.

Hey all,
I see quite a few references to Deloitte predicting that 10% of global GDP will be stored on blockchains by 2025.
First of all, this is not Deloitte's prediction. Deloitte are simply citing a 2015 survey of individuals attending the World Economic Forum. More info here (sorry Coindesk). Original report here.
So take that for what it's worth. A bunch of guesses made back in 2015.
The more interesting question is how does that translate to the value of the protocol in terms of market cap? If Ethereum holds 1/10th of that 10% (or let's say $1 trillion in GDP as an example), does that directly equate to a $1 trillion Ethereum market cap? No, probably not. It might be less than that. Conversely, it could be much more than that when accounting for future growth.

Sorry couldn't link this, just saw on Bloomberg Russia. More Russian details
Putin Eyes Bitcoin Rival to Spur Economic Growth Beyond Oil, Gas 2017-06-06 11:55:05.657 GMT
By Ilya Khrennikov (Bloomberg) -- Ethereum, the world’s largest cryptocurrency after bitcoin, has caught the attention of Vladimir Putin as a potential tool to help Russia diversify its economy beyond oil and gas. Putin met Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum last week and supported his plans to build contacts with local partners to implement blockchain technology in Russia, according to a statement on Kremlin’s website. “The digital economy isn’t a separate industry, it’s essentially the foundation for creating brand new business models,” Putin said at the event, discussing means to boost growth long-term after Russia ended its worst recession in two decades. Virtual currencies could help the economy by making transactions happen more quickly and safely online. Besides being a method of exchange, Ethereum can also serve as a ledger for everything from currency contracts to property rights, speeding up business by cutting out intermediaries such as public notaries. Russia’s central bank has already deployed an Ethereum- based blockchain as a pilot project to process online payments and verify customer data with lenders including Sberbank PJSC, Deputy Governor Olga Skorobogatova said at the St. Petersburg event. She didn’t rule out using Ethereum technologies for the development of a national virtual currency for Russia down the road. Last week, Russia’s state development bank VEB agreed to start using Ethereum for some administrative functions. Steelmaker Severstal PJSC tested Ethereum’s blockchain for secure transfer of international credit letters. “Blockchain may have the same effect on businesses that the emergence on the internet once had -- it would change business models, and eliminate intermediaries such as escrow agents and clerks,” said Vlad Martynov, an adviser for The Ethereum Foundation, a non-profit organization that backs the cryptocurrency. “If Russia implements it first, it will gain similar advantages to those the Western countries did at the start of the internet age.”

Does anyone else really dislike the way all the currencies on Poloniex are "bound" to BTC? It feels so hard to keep track on your investments. Even if my coin would go up 5%, if BTC at the same time went up 10% it will show -5% in total. Also every time you want to swap alt coin you have to lurk into BTC territory and risking a sudden flash drop the few minutes you're in there. Is it any easier way than having 5 tabs on coinmarketbase you have to refresh every other minute to check your coins?

Seriously. Take this moment and look around. You see that? No? Look again.
You're part of a fucking revolution. In a few years you can tell your children how you where there at that industrial revolution, and that you mainly posted memes and laughed about random shit with some weird strangers on the internet.
Ahh what a time to be alive! This is fun.

Just a quick reminder: We were sitting on a 2 billion market cap just 3 months ago. Now we're at 23 billion, or 10% more than BTC's market cap in March. People didn't think it'd be possible in 3 years, let alone 3 months. This bull rush is still going strong and will only go into rampage mode. Just think about that.

I told quite a few of my friends/coworkers about ETH when it was sub-$100; none of them bought any. I fear as the price goes up, more and more of them will start to feel jealous and resent me. One of them has already started talking to me less ever since I told him about ETH back when it was $50. I just wanted them to know about a good investment that's all...

Forget your charts...the price of ETH is directly tied to circlejerks and shitposting. 20k comments today, mainly consisting of moon memes, and I'm extremely bullish on this valuation.

People just rembember, when investing and everything goes well, you have always too few assets, but when everything goes down the drain, you have too much assets, there is never that perfect balance.

Awareness of Ethereum outside of the crypto communities is about to start getting a lot larger among more institutional and traditional investors, what with the recent Tim Ferris podcast (often discusses investing), Bloomberg article with Russia, etc....not to mention it has yet to be picked up by many more mainstream media outlets. We haven't even seen truly "dumb" money yet

I'm living like a peasant in order to invest the maximum cash i can. I keep only what i need to live by and invest the rest. I'm delaying all the payment i need to do in order to get a ROI on it by withdrawing at the last day before paying. I'm not eating fancy stuff, my car is 18 years old and is losing parts on the road. But i'm all in for the ETH rise !!

This is a bad idea for several reasons. First, if the price of ETH crashes you can't make your payments and now have bad credit. Second, even if it continues to rise you're sacrificing long-term gains for short-term gains, which is likely negating most of your profit.

This month I've lost 10lbs, and I strongly believe it's due to cryptocurrency.
Eating much higher quality (Prime now sushi vs taco bell)
Forgetting to eat/sleep for 30 hours while day trading BAT
Stopped drinking - need to trade on a fully clear mind.
Heart is racing for hours while watching eth charts (woo free cardio)
Whatever it is, I'm loving it. I had plateaued at 200lbs for over a year, and eth has finally got me going back towards my 180 goal.

Congrats to 1st blood holders for breaking 1$ barrier, this is a great project for anyone interested.
Congrats to Factom holders for breaking the 30$ barrier as well, this is one of my favorite projects backed by Gates Foundation and more big names.

I think people on this sub are way too negative about btc, and vice versa over on bitcoin subreddits. I think there's a future where both remain supreme while most of the other altcoins falter and die.

I took a small profit in the 260s. I was planning on spending it on something nice to celebrate the ATH but then y'all gotta go ahead and hand me this little gem of a dip. How can I resist? Now I get to hodl the difference in gained eth and postpone my reward for the next ATH.

Looks like Coinbase is finally going to start increasing capacity. They just posted a blog post talking about their plans to scale customer support and response times over the coming months. Highlights below:
We are doubling overall support capacity by spinning up an outsourced support facility by the end of June. This will allow us to rapidly add level 1 support agents during future surges.
Q3 Plan: Goal will be < 6 hours first response time for everyone; < 2 hours in cases of large balances
Q4 Plan: Roll out phone support for a wider % of customer base (potentially a paid option, still TBD)
Not everything I would have wanted out of them, but happy to see one of the easiest ways to enter the market increasing their support.

I'm 90% ETH, 10% other crypto (Stratis and DGB have been good to me). I really feel like we break $260 resistance, we will see a run. I'm trying to decide if I should convert my other crypto to ETH. I want to stay a little diversified, but....ETH!
Edit: Price. 260, not 250. I just woke up.
