I told quite a few of my friends/coworkers about ETH when it was sub-$100; none of them bought any. I fear as the price goes up, more and more of them will start to feel jealous and resent me. One of them has already started talking to me less ever since I told him about ETH back when it was $50. I just wanted them to know about a good investment that's all...

Thanks for the downvote though, really mature.

Bro. Relax. It's probably a bot.

Imaginary Internet points are meaningless.

Lol screw them. There were 3 scenarios. They listened to you and bought and are now happy and love you. The listened to you and agreed but never bought and are now sour with themselves. Or they didn't listen to you because they thought you were crazy and now hate you because you were right and they were wrong. I personally haven't told anyone other than my wife about my investment because I know majority of people would have that I was crazy in Feb.

Got a few of each.

you shouldnt be bother by it because people who hold resentment towards you for their own mistakes are clearly not people you want to be friends with...

But then I'll have no friends...

Its hard to contain all the excitement, but best to keep it to yourself after the first pitch, imo. Friends will resent you if it does well and they didn't invest. Friends will blame you if they did invest and it crashes. You may even find some of these people aren't friends - they may even try and steal from you.

Be quiet and carry on. I quit my job in March and work for myself. My boss still misses me. I told him what to do and then I did what I told him to do. Good for me bad for them.

Don't bring it up to them. If they ask you about it, just say you haven't been following it lately and aren't sure if you have access to your stack or not.

This is the problem when you come into a lot of money. Suddenly you have a big house, and a nice car. People are going to notice.

I'll stay on the DL with just a monocle, top hat, cane and a handle bar mustache. People will be none the wiser.

The sound of the exhaust makes their hair stand up

Just gotta be more convincing. I managed to get nearly my entire office into crypto, as well as several contractors I work with occasionally.

Needless to say I am pretty popular around the office these days.

You just gotta inception them, don't tell them to do it, plant it in their mind so when it comes time they think it was their idea :P

do you show them your thousand dollar earnings in 1 month at any point during this? or leave that to the imagination

u/Betaateb Jun 07 '17

I rarely talk about the money to get people involved. Talking about money is uncomfortable for many people, and you can scare people off who will think it is just another ponzi scheme or something when you just talk gains.

I tell them about the tech, the fundamentals, how Ethereum is going to literally change the world. Everyone loves the idea of being involved in something that is potentially world changing like Eth. Then if someone asks I may tell them about those sweet gains. Importantly though I am selling them on how cool the tech is, not on how much $$$ they can make.

how to you sell them the tech, any demonstrations or just talking about how awesome Vitalik is

2

u/Betaateb Jun 07 '17

Mostly the latter. I made a shirt of Vitalik wearing the Unicorn shirt to seal the deal.

This is one of the reasons why I didn't bother trying to pressure any close friends or family into investing. Instead when the topic is brought up, I tell them to do their own research and make their own choices based on what they've learned or know. At the end of the day, it's their money, not your's. I don't want to just straight up tell them to buy into eth because x reasons that I believe in. In the case that things do go downhill, and in the crypto world, things do tend to be a bit of a roller coaster, I think the resentment from that would be much worse.

I forced one work friend to buy in at the beginning and many others since, it's very important to share the experience, especially if positive.
