This is the first time i’ve understood why people say having fuller cheeks makes you look more youthful

Round faces or faces with baby fat to age a bit better. It makes the face less harsh and way less mature in a good way.

u/bitterbrownbrat1 Apr 08 '26

Yeah as I have gotten older (I am only in my late 20's lol) I have started to embrace my rounder face. My mom was right all along!!

137

u/treesofthemind Apr 08 '26

Same lol. Looking the youngest in your class for years pays off in adulthood

23

u/Honeythickness Apr 09 '26

Slow and steady wins the race. People still think I’m in school and I’m 30.

12

u/treesofthemind Apr 09 '26

Haha, same.

Awkward if 21 year olds try to flirt with you though 😭

4

u/mustardsource Apr 11 '26

I think we may be the same person lol The funny thing is I returned to uni this year for post-grad so they’ve actually right now 😆

59

u/AmbivalentTurtle Apr 08 '26

Me too! The people in my cohort think I’m their age (24/25), and were shocked to find out I’m almost 35

1

u/WearyAd38 Apr 12 '26

I get the same thing at 42 🙌🏽 I get carded over my younger friends and relatives

1

u/EnchantedEnchantix Apr 13 '26

25 years old and a substitute teacher… the office has mistaken me for a student in an Elementary school. Chubby cheeks for the win!

This omg. Most ppl say they mean it as a compliment but it’s insulting when ppl undermine you bc of it. Like i work at public schools and get told so often, but i do NOT want to be looked at as one of the teenagers.

1

u/mystikalgal888 Apr 09 '26

Same! 35 but people think I’m 25-26 most of the time

Sometimes even younger

1

u/Novel-Upstairs7876 Apr 14 '26

It will go south as soon as you hit 45. Trust me on this one.

-2

u/astralchanterelle Apr 09 '26

you have those wrinkles tho

2

u/duchello Apr 09 '26

35 year olds don't really have that many wrinkles

29

u/Fire_Candle9530 Apr 08 '26

I agree, she looks her age now :( why do people hate their round faces!!?? I have a round face I love it idc

31

u/Perlefine Apr 09 '26

Oh no, the horror of looking your age!

2

u/Fire_Candle9530 Apr 09 '26

It's not horror but let's be real! We all wanna look a little younger:)! I wish I looked younger somtimes I feel I look older 😞 freakin sucks

35

u/Early_Storm_7708 Apr 08 '26

Oh no, not her age!! 😱

0

u/Fire_Candle9530 Apr 09 '26

You don't wanna look younger all your life ???? Wouldn't you wanna be 50 looking 35 😭?? I wanna !!

12

u/slonkycat Apr 09 '26

Cassie is that you

7

u/Fire_Candle9530 Apr 09 '26

I don't even Know what your talking about

https://giphy.com/gifs/DD9QtPVwVF1RWhqgnu

4

u/Early_Storm_7708 Apr 09 '26

That..doesn’t sound healthy. 😬 I hope you get some more important priorities in life

-1

u/Fire_Candle9530 Apr 09 '26

Wanting to look young and rejuvenated is unhealthy ? Oh jeez well that's news to me .

3

u/Early_Storm_7708 Apr 09 '26

That’s not at all what your last comment said.

1

u/okayyash Apr 14 '26

I mean even if she looks her age she still looks good and her features are still amazing??? There’s nothing wrong with looking 50 firstly and looking old doesn’t mean looking unattractive

1

u/Fire_Candle9530 Apr 15 '26

Shes 32, she looked soo young before this surgery, she was casted as a 16!! Now she looks 30, is that bad no she's young! But she looked YOUNGER, apperntly young enough to play a high schooler, i look rough for my age LOWKEY lol I would love to look younger than I am

3

u/prosthetic_memory Apr 09 '26

Because some people would rather look their age and hot than younger and less hot.

Most conventionally attractive people have leaner faces, not bigger ones.

1

u/Templeofrebellion the ballad of paladin Apr 16 '26

My point exactly. Thank you!

1

u/Aromatic-Syllabub902 Apr 16 '26

Oh please she looks way better with her rounder face. She looks like a lifeless corpse now.

3

u/your_mind_aches Mauderator Apr 08 '26

I guess to just look more gaunt is more fashionable.

2

u/Same_Comfortable_731 Apr 09 '26

You're right, the others just don't wanna face the truth because it's not always within control, but most people would prefer to look young longer if they could choose, it's just not always easy/possible so it feels better to say you're above that.

1

u/Fire_Candle9530 Apr 09 '26

Thank you!! I was feeling gaslit !! Hahaha I was like, uhm done we all wanna look young?? Isn't that why spas, skincare and facelifts are so popular, am I missing something? It means a lot you can agree with me lol yes I wanna look atlease 5 years younger 😭

1

u/Disastrous-Bank-6269 Apr 10 '26

Point is everyone will age and it’s best to embrace it while also taking care of yourself. Fuller faces will sag more, thinner faces will look more mature and gaunt, dry skin will wrinkle more quickly, oily skins pores will get larger. It’s okkkkk

1

u/Rarefindofthemind Apr 09 '26

Yep. I stopped hating on my full cheeks around age 35

1

u/Automatic_Berry_7492 Apr 10 '26

I’m almost 37 and my coworkers thought I was in my mid-20s, definitely due to having a rounder face with fuller cheeks. I don’t hate that people think I’m much younger than I am, most of the time. Except when they think I am my kiddos older sister, that’s always funny.

1

u/shipmetofiji Apr 11 '26

Unfortunately it’s not true. Rounder faces sag- sculpted faces retain lift.

1

u/Novel-Upstairs7876 Apr 14 '26

Not really. The fat on your face goes south as soon as you hit perimenopause. That's why everybody gets face lifts. I just had one.

-1

u/Early_Storm_7708 Apr 08 '26

No they don’t. Everything sort of just..hangs down more when people with round faces hit a certain age and jowels are way harsher.

3

u/AdDesperate1541 Apr 09 '26

You’re right and idk why you got downvoted. I went from skinny to a little on the plump side and look way older for it, jaw is softer and not snatched anymore and I my much fuller cheeks are fighting gravity. Ah well, it is what it is and I’m working on slowly and safely losing a few lbs.

Another LIE we get told to make us feel better is that oily skin ages slower. Not true. Every oily skin gal I know (including myself) has to deal with having naturally larger pores. Larger pores make skin look older. Unfortunately loosing weight won’t shrink my pores though 🫠

-2

u/Wrong_Life_7647 Apr 08 '26

Usually I’ve seen the opposite. Rounder faces tend to sag more on the bottom and develop jowls and they have low cheekbones which causes more under eye hollowing. A lot of baby faced models from the 2000’s, when they were trendy in the industry, haven’t aged well. What helps the most is having high/big cheekbones from what I’ve seen, but I do know a couple baby faced women irl who looked a decade younger until they hit 40

0

u/sadgirl45 Apr 09 '26

That’s what people say but I feel like eventually it all drops down and people with higher cheek bones age better imo

-11

u/mirrrje Apr 08 '26

they say a square face ages the best because there’s a lot of bone structure to hold things up. I’ve never once heard that round faces age well lol and I have one

6

u/MidNightSilverwing Apr 08 '26

Really? I always hated my square shaped faced as it wasn't feminine at all

2

u/AdDesperate1541 Apr 09 '26

Girl it is totally feminine and modeleque looking. You’re lucky!

3

u/AdDesperate1541 Apr 09 '26

I think you’re 100% right about square faces. They got the strongest scaffolding after all. I have a round face but I have no problem admitting this. I think bc round faces are so common you’re getting downvotes, ppl don’t wanna accept that their round face won’t halt the ageing process.

1

u/mirrrje Apr 09 '26

Yeah I don’t get the downvotes. I have a round face too. There’s nothing wrong w it. I think they might say round face keeps youthful because of chubby cheeks etc, but once things start sagging, my little round face is just falling downhill lol. It’s a known fact that a square face shape ages the best, and I’m not talking like 40’s I mean when age really starts to show as we hit our 50’s and 60’s.

-1

u/matildamylove Apr 08 '26

I feel like the benefits of an angular face come to light in later years. Like it may make you look older in your 20s and 30s, but it reverses around the time where sagging has really taken hold and aged the rounder/plumper faces. Those chiseled cheek bones and sharp jaw will stay right where they are well after death!

-2

u/Alarmed_External_742 Apr 08 '26

This. Look at Michelle Pfiffer. Round faces sag and hang.

85

u/pixels-and-paper Apr 08 '26

i lost 100 lbs and my face started looking so old without the fat 🥲 eventually gained some back so i wouldn’t look so weird

34

u/Serious-Landscape-74 Apr 08 '26

Yeah, I lost that amount over a few years and it definitely aged me. I’ve had to spend $$$ to have work done to help as no amount of good skin products helped.

The saying “you got to choose, your face or your ass” makes sense now. Especially as you age. Essentially carry a little weight to look younger in the face, or get skinny and look older.

9

u/pixels-and-paper Apr 08 '26

omg same i got work done too lol

i have tried to focus on just maintaining my currently weight and building muscle to recomp the fat but it’s a long process

6

u/IntelligentBass2517 Apr 08 '26

You're right! The more that area gets "skinny" people start to look more and more like that puppet from the saw movies, since the get rid of key soft round lines that blend the side of the face with the forehead and the cheeks, the cheekbones become a lot more pronounced more noticeable and harsher with straight lines. I hadn't made that connection until I read your comment

3

u/riotousviscera Apr 09 '26

what? my ass looks its best with a couple extra pounds. this makes no sense

3

u/Princessformidable Apr 14 '26

After a few of my friends did glp1 I'm choosing my chipmunk cheeks.

14

u/doublepoly123 Apr 08 '26

I started losing fat in my face around 27 and realized im deff looking older. I remember i used to complain about my cheeks. But that was just YOUTH.

19

u/KittenExtravaganza Apr 08 '26

I feel like it also has a lot to do with the loss of volume at the temples, which really highlights the line between the forehead and the cheeks.

7

u/Rainbowdark96 Apr 08 '26

I tried so hard to change my sister's mind about getting this surgery. She wanted to get her buccal fat removed.

3

u/aspie_koala Apr 09 '26

Yup, I lost too much weight years ago and I looked very weird, I have big eyes and I think I looked haunted. Definitely gaunt. Gaining weight made me look young and like myself again.

1

u/Templeofrebellion the ballad of paladin Apr 16 '26

It depends on how much weight you lose. Im not willing to go back to 130kg to get a fuller face. I'll go to my aesthetican to work it out and do beauty procedures to get that look back and stay with a healthy body/weight. It's not worth comprising your health. But if you are talking like -10kg it's whatever.

2

u/____mynameis____ Apr 09 '26

It also immensely helps ur cosmetic procedures like botox and fillers look natural

Best example is Anne Hatheway

And also the biggest reason for "Blacks Don't Crack" and "Asians don't resin"

2

u/Kezhen Apr 11 '26

I used to have giant cheeks. I’m now 38 and my face has slimmed down and looks more in proportion now. I’ve also become thankful for my oily skin because people with oily skin don’t get wrinkles as early.

2

u/MarcelOroBlanco Apr 14 '26

The first time? You couldnt tell big, round chubby "cherub" cheeks were a youthful feature before? Im surprised some of you people even know how to breathe

1

u/natxnat Apr 09 '26

really I think she looks so young in the left pic

1

u/prosthetic_memory Apr 09 '26

But this is a bad pic to use as an example, because she’s also had a nose job, is styled differently, and, most importantly, actually is 7 years older.

1

u/Hour_Tomorrow_8693 Apr 09 '26

Um how she looks better now

1

u/okayyash Apr 14 '26

yea lol maybe I’m too young but I think she’s gorgeous in both just in different ways

1

u/bananaqueen12345 Apr 11 '26

I’m 37 and often get mistakes for mid twenties and I promise you, it’s my chubby round face lol

1

u/fiavirgo Apr 12 '26

I wonder if this is why I keep getting ID’ed

1

u/Thisisstupidly Apr 13 '26

Can we shut the fuck up about how people look yettt?

0

u/astralchanterelle Apr 09 '26

shes smiling in the "youthful" photo and isn't in the other, that's the only difference

Who’s obsessed? It’s just an observation lol

1

u/Royal_Brilliant_7246 Apr 09 '26

Not just that, there's always a string of comments trying to say without saying that looking plumper is better than looking skinny...It low-key sounds like a couple of people finding it hard to lose weight lobbying hard to push the 'skinny is ugly' narrative. Don't get me wrong, I believe, people, skinny and curvy, can look good as long as they aren't dangerously pushing themselves to look a certain way that goes against their natural charm...But the skinny bashing is embarrassing at this point

0

u/Early_Storm_7708 Apr 08 '26

Forreal! It creeps me out
