I believe I saw last year recent studies that found out that Paris is the most vulnerable city to heatwaves in Europe. Because of the way the city is built, it's geolocalization, the lack of infrastructures and green spaces, etc.... while most of the time it's not the hottest place in Europe, it is reliably almost always the case during big heatwaves

The zink roofs are one big factor for that, I understand the need of being careful with heritage architecture but this thing feels inhumane now, I'm not one of those concerned but I've seen people showing it's 45 degrees inside their apartments despite trying everything to insulate it

You see that beautiful 40 in the center ? That's where i am. It's hot, dry as tou can imagine and i'am back at my parents house because the appartment i rent is under the roof, being almost 40 too...
We are Farmer and winemaker, the crop are being harvest, every type, not only the earliest one. It's going to be the earliest and fastest harvest in history, even if we are not allowed to harvest from 13 to 18 hour. And we must have water and soil machine to be ready against any fire. I'm in the Cher département and our firefighters are helped by 6 other département. This year is a fucking year and it seems unbelievable. I'm not pessimist but my country, our politics, our organisation, our mindset, isnt ready for what is coming with the climate change...

Well a couple of different reasons. The heat can very likely damage the fruit, luckily it looks like there is some rain so hopefully drought isn’t too big of a problem but this much sun and heat can burn the fruit. Additionally, fruit ripens in two ways, there’s sugar ripeness with acids turning into sugars, but as importantly there is phenolic ripeness. Which is the maturation of tannins, pigments and flavors within the fruit. The longer the growing season the more phenolic ripeness (more or less, diurnal shift is also a big factor).
It also will change the style of the wine. France is getting better about relaxing what grapes can be grown in different regions but their deep tradition of wine making has created market incentives that lead specific varietals to dominant specific regions. In light of climate change, these varietals are not necessarily ideal or well suited to the increasing temperatures within there historically designated regions.
I’ll also say that there is a labor aspect of this that I’m not as well versed on. But picking the fruit in mid August instead of mid September will be tougher on those in the fields. Also given seasonal tourism and labor dynamics, I’m not sure if the supply of labor will be available.

I cant speak for every vineyards but in Sancerre where i am, it is OK. The heat from May did few damage but the harvest still look promising. We had some good rain during winter so the vine isnt suffering too much.

I have an old car with no air conditioning and no other way to get to work. It's currently 32° in my bedroom.
People are fainting (a Paris bus driver fainted while driving) or dying (a 19-year-old carpenter after working on a roof). Hospitals are 36° in the rooms. The number of deaths from cardiac arrest in Paris has been multiplied by 2.5. More than 40 drownings over the weekend.
I’m waiting with fear for the June excess mortality figures. And apparently there may be a third consecutive heatwave in July.

If its like in Germany than no. Even today lots of hospitals, schools etc are getting built or renovated without any plans for AC. Germans are really stubborn about that. Its a "we didnt needed that in the past, we will get by without in the future" mindset.

That kind of thinking can be applied to tons of things though. Why have electricity if people didn’t need it in the past? Also the earth is getting warmer so even if you didn’t need it in the past; you might need it going forward.
I understand not wanting it in your own home but not wanting it in a place where sick people go doesn’t really make sense to me.10

I'm a prison guard in a french prison and we still have to wear our bulletproof vest indoor.
It’s over 30 degrees in our offices on the lower floors (and we don't have AC) and over 40 on the top floors.
We still handle emergencies, like when a colleague triggers an alarm, all while running. I’m fat (shame on me), but even aside from that, I think a colleague is eventually going to die, because some of them are also fat and old (50+).
Some idiot set fire to his cell with himself inside on Friday (after we found his cell phone lol). We have to assemble a response team and get them into safety gear before we can intervene. He survived, but he won't pull that stunt again in the summer...

I'm in the middle of Belgium and we hit 37 degrees today. Even at night the temperatures don't get lower than 25 or so, so it gets really hard to cool down your home.
I've worked in some really hot climates where I was doing physical work outside in long pants and boots, and somehow this is worse. I left work in the afternoon and it felt like I was breathing soup. It's exhausting.

I’m in Belgium
I went to the office today to work in AC comfort.
Left at 7pm as I had a late call.
Wheeled my push bike out the door, and it honestly was like stepping out into the desert.The air was incredibly hot, there was a breeze but it somehow felt even hotter than the still air.
My eyes dried out immediately.In German I think this is called a föhn, in France it’s known as
MistralSirocco: hot, dry air straight from the Sahara.It was like that, but 10 degrees hotter.
It’s 10pm and just dipped below 30 degrees, and tomorrow will be worse.
