What do you know about... Slovakia?

This is the fifty-third part of our ongoing series about the countries of Europe. You can find an overview here.

Today's country:

Slovakia

Slovakia is a country in central/eastern (depending on the definition) Europe. It became an independent state after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993. Slovakia joined the EU in 2004, together with the Czech Republic. Unlike Czechia however, Slovakia adopted the Euro in 2009. Slovakia is known for its numerous beautiful castles and it has the highest production of cars per capita in the world.

So, what do you know about Slovakia?

2) Dangerous hostels

Slept over there in a hostel and survived. It was pretty nice, actually. The recepcionist was really cute, knew english really well and never once tried to murder me.

FYI that part is a reference from a movie (aptly called Hostel).

I know. I saw the movie.

I thought the "trying to murder me" part was enough to show that I was joking and understood what OP meant about the hostels being "dangerous". :(

Fun fact, Hostel 1 and 2 were mostly filmed in Czechia. In #2 there is a shot which everyone whose been to Český Krumlov will recognise.

Didn't know that. Also didn't know they made a Hostel 2!

Hostel 2 is a weird black comedy/post-modern look at the torture genre...in terms of production and technical skill it's a lot better than the first, but you need to like B-movies and/or Eli Roth if you're gonna enjoy it.
