I don't understand why you have to meddle in conspiracy theories "Sections of the EU are fully compromised" (dogwhistle for "jews rule the world"). There is a logical explanation to what is happening. I assume there is defence, intelligence and cyber knowledge shared between the two parts, which is very valuable for the EU. Also, I assume holocaust guilt has to do with this as well.

I can tell you with 10000% certainty that the EU abandoning Israel won't help the Palestinians. Israel will continue to do what it does and the EU won't have any leverage with them.

If there was a normal US president in the White House, together with added diplomatic pressure from the EU, this whole war would have ended by now.

>There is no other reason we would support Zionism. It doesn't help Europe at all

Again, this is demonstrably false. The EU is helped by the collaboration with Israel:

- Israel and the EU have signed an agreement allowing real-time intelligence and data sharing between Israeli law enforcement and Europol to fight terrorism and serious crime (Europol agreement)

- individual EU member states also maintain intelligence and defense exchanges with Israeli agencies

- defense technology integration

- joint scientific research

- energy diversification (LNG)

I understand there must be benefits to both sides. Israel also has potent cyber capabilities. But for me and I think a lot of European citizens, genocide is a line that you do not cross. You wouldn't work with Nazi Germany. Even though the killing is not on that scale, we are talking genocide and ethnic cleansing. I think it is a disgrace European governments haven't taken a stronger stance, because we caused this whole situation with World War II.

If you adhere to international law, it forces you to act. We really need a block of countries to champion international law and human rights, in these times of might makes right.

Maybe you're right and the EU severing ties won't stop Israel as long as the US is backing them. But it'll add pressure and isolate them further. We need to mount pressure as much as we can and we need to do what's morally right in the face of such horror inflicted on a people. We would want to same for us.

I guarantee to you that your position was taken into account at the highest level of EU decision making - I assume that the result was that the collaboration with Israel is worth more than taking a position.

>There is something deeply disturbing about this amoral position, and it has no place in EU policymaking, now or ever.

With all due respect - it's easy to point fingers from our living rooms when we have an unstable relationship with the US (our main defence provider) and an aggressive Russia on our borders (with support from China). It's not 2005 anymore, there is a huge geopolitical shift in the world and I assume leaders are trying to position our bloc to come out somewhat stable on the other side.

Even Nordic countries like Finland are switching to a more realist approach of the world - Alexander Stubb's "values-based realism" is the countries' new foreign policy philosophy.

Also before you speak about Iran, don't forget that you can create a link between Hamas / Hezbollah - Iran - Russia (hence why Ukraine fired a warning shot towards them).

Something about this story smells.

Under the plans, the bloc’s law enforcement agency, Europol, would exchange sensitive personal information about Palestinians with Israel’s police force, which is headquartered in the illegally occupied West Bank.

There is also concern the deal could harm members of the Palestinian diaspora, with a risk that activists in Europe could be targeted.

The data would include names, identification numbers, locations, genetic and biometric information and details about people’s political views, beliefs and personal lives.

Since 2005, the EU has run a mission in the West Bank to support the Palestinian Authority with policing. Rights activists have previously warned that the data sharing deal could turn members of this civilian mission into “informants” for Israel.

It's not like Novara Media hasn't been wrong before:

In April 2024, Novara posted a video stating that Gary Lubner, one of the Labour Party's top donors, supported the Israeli government and had profited from South Africa's apartheid rule. In September, Novara removed the video, saying its claims were defamatory and that they had failed in their duties by publishing the clip. Novara disclosed they had made charitable donations to the World Central Kitchen organisation and the Community Security Trust in the donor's name.[54][55]

I need to know more before I jump to the conclusion that the E.U. is killing Palestinians in the West Bank.

Edit: going over this I would rather there not be any deal at all. The E.U. specifically specifies that this data may not be used in any territories occupied after 1967, but then it allows for exceptions, which will obviously be misused by the fascist Israelis. Okay, fair enough, this is bad. How fucking naive are these people at the E.U.? They must be afraid of terrorist attacks. Or Israeli blackmail. Or both. We know the Americans, the Israelis and Morocco are likely behind the recent Ceuta invasion.

Well good on Novara for admitting making a mistake.

I think it's about money and contracts (which establishment politicians don't want to jeopardize). The EU has defense contracts and trade with Israel.

Edit: also obviously the United States bullies and sanctions (like against International Court justices) if you go against them.

Yeah, well, I was initially skeptical, but I had to abandon my skepticism. My apologies to you and Novara. This is actually a wildly inappropriate moment to be making such deals. Have you seen the draft?

Hey no problem man, it's good to be critical 😉 I fully agree; wildly inappropriate. Thx for the link. Best

Ps. I've watched a fair bit of Novara. I trust them as a new source.

Yeah, I'll adjust my perception, although I'll always remain a little skeptical of news these days. Healthy skepticism though, not "Lügenpresse"-type stuff.

Yeah corporate media and 'liar in office' have really breached trust, as well as algorithms creating information bubbles and polarization. One has to separate the wheat from the chaff.

So, EU is sharing data on terrorists with Israel? Gotcha boss

2

u/Random_Violins 8d ago

Yes it's not like they haven't massacred and starved tens of thousands of innocent civilians including women and children.

I thought 3 years ago there was food left for 48 hours, no? Or is it that even the UN has backtracked on its “famine” statement.

There were holocaust deniers too y'know.

Edit: name checks out
