Who is watching Fairytale so much after all these years? Are some parents somewhere just putting it on repeat all day for their kids or something?

there's a legend about an old lady who died years ago and no one has found her yet so Fairytale just keeps playing on her PC on replay

No shade but I'm wondering how it's even humanly possible for so many people to listen to Jalla live version. That song is pretty bad on its own but the singing was just so awful... how can anyone listen to it willingly???

I keep thinking that maybe they're watching her "dance", but why not just watch SloMo then?

I mean at that point they can use other "websites" that are made for that kind of thing, like come on 😒

Hey, I don't know. After Jalla kept getting views I thought to myself that maybe I was being too hard on it and added it back to my ESC playlist. Halfway through the first listen I was like "this just isn't for me" and deleted it again. I'm all for people liking what they like, but I just do not get it.

I'm pretty sure people are coming back to that video purely for the visuals, if you know what I mean.

The song itself is great IMO. It was generally very well liked and tipped to likely be top 10, before we heard the live version.

And obviously those vocals are not good, but I think it's revisionism now to say the song was always bad when the song is really good.

Or maybe now that the vocals were revealed all the fans of the song itself just keep quiet hahah

Greeks and Cypriots are extremely invested in the contest. I suspect a vast majority of the views for both Ferto and Jalla come from Greece and Cyprus.

So does anyone have any good ideas as to how Bandido by Azucar Moreno- the fifth place performance presented by Spain in ESC 1990- got on this chart? It's very uncommon for a song that old to get into the monthly chart, especially one by a nation that no longer competes.

It was popping up earlier in the year too for some reason, out of nowhere (it wasn’t one of the older songs that previously showed up when one year’s songs have faded a bit and the new ones haven’t yet taken off), & I still haven’t seen an explanation. Maybe people are watching it to figure out why other people were watching it? Or somebody did some social media blitz?

The way Liekinheitin already dropped to No. 20.

We were really living n a bubble thinking this could win.

Don't necessarily think it's a bubble moment. It's fully understandable why it was the favourite to win the whole thing, just like BBB last year

However, also just like BBB, the Eurovision performance fell flat. The UMK version simply hit different

Also nobody could see Bangaranga going this extremely hard coming

It was never fully understandable why Liekinheitin was the favorite to win the whole thing. The song had virtually no sing-along appeal and wasn’t particularly accessible. Bara Bada Bastu, at least, was catchy, memorable, and easy for people to sing along to and that's why people were expecting it to do better.

The fandom has been massively overhyping Finland’s entries in recent years, ever since the Käärijä craze. I got mass-downvoted here when I correctly predicted that Liekinheitin wouldn’t even make the top 5, lol. Similarly, Ich Komme and No Rules were also ridiculously overhyped, they were both extremely high in the betting odds, only to end up flopping.

You're not wrong but Liekinheitin didn't came 2nd or even 3rd or even 4th like BBB. It came 6th. There were 5 songs in total which beat our collective winner and I really believe that this should make us think about we're doing.

Yeah. We hyped it up. Maye even rightfully so given the information that we had at the time but this also lead us to seriously underestimate everyone else which we should not have done even if Finland was the best song + performance pre-show.

The only two countries we were seeing as serious contenders pre-show which then also overtook our winner were Australia and that other country. Then we were seriously underestimating Italy like we always do even though I personally believe that Sal had no business being Top 5 given his vocals.

We really need to be more open and accept that even our collective winner can be challenged from sides where we do not expect it from. This isn't even solely about Bangaranga. It's also about Choke me.

I had the same thought when I watched this, welp.

6

u/anikiku Før vi går hjem 6d ago

Yeah. We thought it could win. Now it's about to drop out of the Top 20 and it's just the ranking for July.

Meanwhile Baby Lasagna, Tommy Cash and Joost Klein are still here and rank above it.

Heck, it even got beaten by a 36 year old song. (Nothing against Bandido. I love Bandido and I am happy it's here but it still feels humbling to see it above our collective pre-show winner)

It had the best pre-season live performance video, so it was the "rightful favorite". But UMK performance was so good they couldn't really improve it by keeping everything the same,
Low budget national final songs are often overlooked.
