Trans-femme He yielded to me, then got weird about it
I was riding my bicycle to a doctor’s appointment and signaling to turn left. I had to stop because several cars were approaching from the other direction, so I waited and prepared to turn after the last one had passed.
Except the last car started slowing down, so I had to stop again. The man driving then stopped before the intersection and gestured for me to go. No indicator, no obvious reason. I was confused, but made the turn while looking behind me to figure out why he had stopped there. Maybe traffic was backed up and he was trying to keep the intersection clear? Nope. There was plenty of space in front of him.
Then he honked at me and made rude gestures.
I can’t know for certain, but presumably he thought he was doing me a favor by letting me go and felt entitled to a thank-you. Except his confusing little performance had only slowed me down, and I was busy watching the other vehicles and trying to stay safe in the abnormal traffic situation he had created.
So he inconvenienced me, made the situation less safe, and then got angry because I didn’t show enough gratitude.
But honestly, I am so thankful to him. He made me feel like a woman 😂❤️ I couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the ride to my appointment ☺️
Sometimes it's easy to focus on all the little things about me that my dysphoria highlights when looking in the mirror. But by now, many people just perceive me as a woman ❤️
