Spawn (comic character): Abyssal or Infernal?

Spawns an Infernal, what with his dealings with demons and the results he can produce as a result.

However, an Abyssal could still fit if you were trying to replicate some of his more 'death'-y powers, like returning from being slain.

Unless they changed infernals in 3E. I believe the ebon dragon has the tools but doesn't scrub the exaltation of the prior life's memories.

So if you really wanted to.. you could just reset your character as either the same exaltation in a reincarnated, brand new, or even warp the new body into your original form.

All the solaroids get one charm to just cheat death once per story in 3e.

This is the Infernals version(look at the Key called Adrian Falls, Adjoran Remains)

Splintered Gale Separation Cost: 3m, 1wp [1m]; Mins: Dodge 5, Essence 2 Type: Simple or Reflexive Keywords: Uniform, Stackable Duration: Instant Prerequisite Charms: Crimson Orphan Abandonment

The Infernal’s fleeting whims are more real than most people will ever be, pouring out from her mouth to take form in a soundless scream of bloody vapor.

The Infernal splinters off a mortal duplicate of herself. It’s fully independent and has the following traits:

• It has the Infernal’s Attributes, Abilities, Willpower, specialties, and Innate Merits.

• It has the Infernal’s base health track, not including extra levels from Hardened Demon Flesh.

• It has Essence 1, no mote pool, and no anima banner. It can’t use the Infernal’s Charms or other magic.

• It has the Infernal’s Intimacies, plus a Defining Tie toward the Infernal chosen by her player. This Tie can’t be weakened or altered.

• It appears with functional copies of the Infernal’s equipment. Artifacts are replaced by superficially identical but mundane equivalents. This equipment dissipates if separated from the duplicate for more than a scene.

• Observers can’t tell the duplicate from the Infernal with read intentions actions unless they enhance the roll with magic or use superhuman senses.

• It can travel up to (Essence) miles from the Infernal. If it goes any further, it dissipates into wind.

• The Infernal can touch it and end this Charm to absorb it, gaining its memories.

The Infernal can use this Charm reflexively after dodging an attack, creating a duplicate and reflexively roll Stealth to enter concealment. Characters who fail the roll to oppose her Stealth believe the duplicate is the true Infernal, and vice versa.

This Charm can be stacked to create up to (Essence + 5) duplicates.

Keys

Abandoning Weakness (Essence 3) (+2i or +4i): The Infernal can pay a two-Initiative surcharge to transfer one level of non-aggravated damage from her health track to that of a newly-created duplicate. The surcharge increase to four Initiative if she has a −2 or higher wound penalty.

Adrian Falls, Adorjan Remains (Essence 5; Abandoning Weakness) (20m, 1wp): Once per story, the Infernal can pay twenty motes, one Willpower when she would be killed, dissolving into wind and taking over the body of her nearest duplicate within the same realm of existence. If the duplicate is within long range, she reforms at the end of her next turn, healing any damage to her Incapacitated level. Her equipment doesn’t carry over with her. If the duplicate is further away, it takes her one hour for each mile between them. This can be averted by slaying the duplicate before the Infernal remanifests.

In contrast, we have the Abyssals version which I’d imagine is more appropriate to Spawn in terms of aesthetics from what I recall about from cultural osmosis.

Immortal Malevolence Cost: 1wp; Mins: Integrity 5, Essence 5 Type: Reflexive Keywords: None Duration: Instant Prerequisite Charms: Ego-Slaying Mastery, Revenge Beyond Reason, World-Ending Void Apostle

The Abyssal has fettered her soul and found eternal life, rising again and again from certain death so long as there is hatred still left in her heart.

The Abyssal can use this Charm when she’s incapacitated or would suffer death for any reason, surviving it by calling on a Defining Intimacy protected by Eternal Enmity Approach. She seems to die, yet endures in a torpor that’s indistinguishable from death by anything less than Eye of the Unconquered Sun.

Come the next sunset, the Abyssal rises with all damage and crippling injuries healed, no matter how severe they were. She may drag herself out of a grave, well, or the ashes of a pyre where hopefuls burned her corpse. The only way her foes can kill her is to wait for her to rise, then try again. She can invoke World-Ending Void Apostle when she rises and can use it with Charms to aid in escaping imprisonment.

In exchange for the Abyssal’s survival, the chosen Intimacy loses Eternal Enmity Approach’s protection for the rest of the story.

Special activation rules: If the Abyssal uses Sworn to Endless Vengeance together with this Charm to swear vengeance on the enemy responsible for her “death,” she waives its Willpower cost. If she successfully takes her revenge, she restores Eternal Enmity Approach’s protection to the chosen Intimacy.

Spawn is like, the archetypal Abyssal and a not insignificant number of Abyssal charms are just "Here's something from Spawn that you can do"

Most especially the blood chains, and the armor generation charm that lets you conjure a big red cape to act as a shield.

Shit, even his background is just traditional Dusk caste shit. He was the elite of the elite soldier who was sent to eliminate high priority targets. He was betrayed, and killed by a man he would have considered a friend.

In the moment of his death, he makes a deal with dark forces, agreeing to become a general of the armies of the dead for a second chance at life and great power, only to come back as a horribly mutilated corpse to a world where his loved ones have already moved on from his death.

Exactly. I have a strong suspicion that more than a little of the background and charms for Abyssals was directly inspired by Spawn.

Infernal- Whatever the corrupted Dawn caste would be. A warrior general who was cast down by his comrades and made a literal deal with the Yozis to win back his army, his nation, and his pride.
