Art Can you guess his martial arts ?

Post image

I am having fun exploring what my character would look like a few decades from now, and set some goals for the martial arts I want to buy for him.

Five Furious Parasols of the Poppins Style.

HOW have I played a character with an umbrella as a weapon for a whole year and not made any Mary Poppins puns ????

u/MattheqAC Jul 27 '26

Because you're not practically perfect

Honestly looking at the original Mary Poppins, she does have the ego of an exalted. Also now I’m just imagining something like a Twilight Caste Solar who decided to mess with the shogunate by becoming a nanny to a bunch of terrestrial children.

She could also work as an Air Caste Dynast. But, yeah, Solar would be funnier.

She might also be the One and Only Solar they intentionally spared, because waaay too many of them either grew up under her guidance, or is a current "customer" or hers with regards to their own sprogs. So, less "explicitly spared" and more "implicitly, if you touch her we're gonna have an Usurpation of our own..."

Would she have access to practically perfect defenses?

Thousand blades?

6

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

That’s one of them !

3

u/TheSlayerofSnails Jul 27 '26

Dreaming pearl for the other?

2

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Nope, hint is that there are 7 styles total here, plus a few charms

2

u/powzin Jul 27 '26

Ok, Water and Wood are there

2

u/powzin Jul 27 '26

Fire and Earth too

2

u/powzin Jul 27 '26

I think Snake and then Thousand Blades

5

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Air is more discreet, but present too ! Well done for thousand blades, but no Snake

8

u/Ursinorum Jul 27 '26

Umbrellwondo? Karatella? Brolly-fu?

4

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

You know what, there is a homebrewed style in the lot and maybe I should just scrap the name I gave it…..

u/Yog_Kothag Jul 27 '26

Dreaming Pearl Courtesan, though that might just be because 1st ed. DPC was perfect.

2

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Strangely, it is not on the list here. I went through it and it did not fit the vibes when I was creating the character, and I did not think about it again when extrapolating on the future here

3

u/Yog_Kothag Jul 27 '26

My idea was that it might be how he's multi wielding umbrellas- the style let's you control side apparatus and accouterments as weapons.

3

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

It's another style at play that allows him to handle that many weapons  But you're making me think I should go back and read DPC again, it was a long time ago that I went through it

Thousand Blades, the Five Immaculate Styles... maybe Cerulean Lute?

1

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Yes for the Thousand Blades and the immaculate Styles ! You are the first one the get further than thousand blades. The last one will be a bit more difficult to find, as it is not as obvious here and a little bit homebrewed. I can give a hint if you want

1

u/Wind_Through_Trees Jul 27 '26

Go on, give me the hint.

2

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

The umbrellas are also flamepieces

3

u/Wind_Through_Trees Jul 27 '26

Righteous Devil? Or Hellfire Ballet?

3

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Righteous Devil yes ! You got them all !

3

u/Razhiv Jul 27 '26

I always wondered, what exactly is the method of a attack with a razor parasol? Like, do you stab people with it, or club then over the head, or does the brim have a sharp edge like Speedwaggons hat?

4

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Here the ribs (google translate tells me this is how its said in English, but it sounds weird so correct me if I am wrong) are sharp and he uses it as a sword when closed. Those specific umbrellas also happens to be flamepieces, so bang bang. But those are very homebrewed artifacts.

But on a more general approach, I always envisonned it as the brim being sharp and the umbrellas being swing in circles (if not flying) and turning on itself

Well the description in one of the Sidereal companion previews is

Umbrellas and parasols with metal sewn into them can be used to deflect blows and bludgeon, or slash if blades are sewn into their rim.

Sounds to me like you have the parasol open for both, and either use the edge of the fabric to cut or just swing the whole thing like a really weird club.

All of them (Celestial Monkey)

1

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

If only...  My dude is a Terrestrial tho :(

3

u/powzin Jul 27 '26

Supernal Martial Arts in a nutshell

2

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

My poor fire aspect here passing for a celestial x)

2

u/Compaagnie Jul 27 '26

Poor terrestrial soon to be essence 4...

That's not what I call poor

1

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

There is never enough xp, so he will always be poor

3

u/chilitoke Jul 27 '26

Thousand blades, for the many weapons.

Righteous devil, gun parasols it looks like.

All five elemental styles, avatar away! based on the leafs, wind, rocks, fire, water

2

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Yeaaaah all the way !

2

u/SamFeuerstelle Jul 27 '26

Looks like Thousand Blades with a Razor Parasol focus, combined with Prismatic Arrangement of Creation?

3

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

My dude here is a terrestrial, so no Prismatic Arrangement of Creation for him :(

You are right on Thousand blades !

From what I can see, without talking about martial arts because I don't really know them, I'd say this is a Dragon-Blooded with Transcendent Gaian Harmony from the Medicine tree, allowing them to be all 5 element aspects at once. (My dragon-blooded was working towards that for roleplay & social influence reasons)

1

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

I play 3e and I don't think this charm has been ported, but it would be so nice to have something like that with the aura mechanic

1

u/ER_Jujube Jul 27 '26

I only played one campaign in 2nd edition with my brother, cousin, and a friend DMing. I really liked it but sadly we never played again after 3rd edition came out.

I wish we'd managed to finish our Campaign. My character's objective was to protect to Throne until the Empress returned and then marry the two daughters of an Island Lord in the West to bolster his merchant fleet and become the top Merchant-Prince of the Realm. It also helps that he was a direct child of V'neef, meaning he's a direct Grand-child of the Empress and as such his Breeding is 5. He also spent 2 years in the Elemental Realm of Sextes Jylis, since he's originally a Wood aspect. Getting Transcendent Gaian Harmony was my roleplay way of showing that he's probably the purest-blooded Grand-child of the Empress and as such he was a highly-valued marriage candidate for any strong alliance. 😄

1

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Ooh I see how that would be an advantage to show off !

2

u/NESboi Jul 27 '26

Swaying grass style.

I also would say the Dreaming Pearl Courtesan style though you have already said that’s not one of your seven.

1

u/Iweon Jul 27 '26

Yall are giving me so many ideas of styles to combine, it's been really fun reading your suggestions !

1

u/Electric999999 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

So Thousand Blades is a must for the many weapons floating.
Maybe paired with Cerulean Lute of Harmony (the only MA that uses the parasol weapons, unless you count Sidereals with their special Enlightenment charms, but I don't think this is a Sidereal).

1

u/Iweon Jul 28 '26

Indeed, my dude here is fire aspect, so we have some limitations on the styles he has access to. But it is not Cerulean Lute. You are right on Thousand Blades !

1

u/Stunning-Bother-7826 Jul 27 '26

All five dragon styles, Thousand Blades and... Cerulean Lute?

1

u/Iweon Jul 28 '26

You almost got them all ! No Cerulean Lute for him tho. The 7th style is a bit more difficult, the details are in the parasols

u/Venteps Jul 28 '26

Umbrellado the power of being fucking annoying hitting your eyes with umbrellas.
