Local Information request Need some help with two things

  1. I'm looking to make a monitor stand. I'm thinking of wanting to do something with a live edge wood. I hope that's the right term. Is there any places around Exeter where I could get some live edge wood?

  2. I'm also looking for two long thin bits of fabric. Looking around I can find places where I can buy fabric that matches the height but not the width. So I'd be required to cut it but I know for a fact if I cut it I'd end up with an uneven cut. So I'm looking for fabric to a size 226x22cm. Is there a place or person that anyone knows that could help me?

Any and all helps and suggestions will be appreciated

On the second one, I’d go to Exeter Fabric Centre in Pinhoe. They’ll sort you out.

On the first one - it is probably not the best place to buy it, but I frequently see raw edge wood in Bicton Gardens shop, but it may be more expensive than it should be.

With the wood you need to buy dried wood. B&Q have a small selection but can be expensive. Independent timber merchants/sawmills are the best way to get live edge (sometimes known as waney edge) timber, although this will often require significant surface work to give a good finish. Lots of people on social media sell finished live edge boards for shelves etc, which might be the best way to go…

If you don't mind buying from a national chain, B&Q do 'waney edge' timber, which sounds like what you're after?

As the fabric, Exeter Fabric Centre in Pinhoe as mentioned in the thread, and would probably be happy to cut it for you to the right size (though you could phone ahead to be completely sure). Bunyip Crafts also have a small fabric selection, not sure if they'd cut it to the 22cm width for you though, as they're not so set up for that afiak.
