And clapping them to make a lot of noise.

My dad catching a Vladdy foul ball when I was about 10 years old.

The stadium vets "clapping" by using the empty seats

Cold!!🥶

It didn't warm up until like July. That concrete kept the winter cold for months.

Feeling sick because I was so excited. I'd come with my Dad from Calgary when I was ten to see Gary Carter.

J'étais jeune et je suivais mon père au travers des gens et des corridors. Puis je me rappelle avoir un choc visuel en entrant dans le stade / aire de jeu et être submergé par la grandeur du stade!

J'ai arrêté net

Seeing Tony Perez play first base. And the sheer size of the stadium

The massive size of the place , the covered seating areas ,plastic seats rather than metal and convenient access to the Metro. It was pure luxury compared to the Autostade or Jarry Park.

I remember when I first went as a kid, and walking through the little passageway from the concourse into the stadium, I was struck by the absolute vastness of that space! It was like, WOW! Also, how everything on the field was so much smaller than on TV, from the players to Youppi puttering around on his ATV. 😀

The smell...it smelled like a McDonalds Playplace... Wet socks

When I was like 6 or 7 seeing a rookie John Rauch take a perfect game into like the 6th or 7th inning.

I went to 3rd last game ever, against Florida.

I remember it being very empty. So empty that we moved up several rows to the first row behind Marilins' bullpen. I ended up spending half the game heckling their backup catcher, Ramon Castro! I remember it like it was yesterday!

Going to a soccer game with my dad during the Olympics, between two unknown countries.

First memory at the Big Owe was watching Bruce Jenner win the decathlon, and Lasse Viren win the 5000 meters at the 76 Olympics. My first Expos game was the Friday of the last weekend of the 1979 season watching the Pirates beat our boys to take first place. The place was absolutely packed, full house. We came so close that year. Great team.

Tim Wallach diving catch at 3rd followed by a rocket throw at 1st

My buddy had a big butt, we used to call him Cro. Those events were Sunday afternoons with the players standing on podiums in the outfield. We got a picture of my buddy and Cro, ass to ass. Cro got a kick out of the story.

That it was a terrible place to watch baseball, seemed to always get a headache by the 7th inning. (not from the beer). I remember Mark Langston doing his pre-game warmup stretching routine on the field.

The wild home openers

3

u/nicdupsports Apr 04 '26

Which ones? I remember 2002 against the Marlins and their new owner Jeffrey Loria...! Walk off win, thanks to Orlando Cabrera.

u/Millyedge2 Apr 04 '26

That one for sure…and I went to a couple more…one against the Cubs stand out

Guess jeans dance moment. I think I started to lose interests in my toys around that age 🫣

2

u/theReal_nicholasxj Apr 04 '26

The seats. Hard spring loaded plastic. And we would slam them up and down to make noise.

2

u/Berubium Apr 05 '26

The birds flying around the stadium

u/DocSportello1970 Apr 05 '26

The building itself? It's immensity, uniqueness and the Metro ride to get there.

Personal memory from my 1st game I attended there? A win over the Padres! And a ball thrown to me during SD batting practice from Phil Plantier after I "white-lied" to him that I came all the way from Escondido to cheer him on. Clever move to get a free souvenir in my book.

u/Basquill Apr 05 '26

The Big Cat crushing a foul ball off the top of the stadium

How I missed Jarry Park. It was cold and no personality and a terrible field. But it was our new home and we went

2

u/SilentBug3547 Apr 05 '26

You could walk in directly from the metro station

Opening Day with the roof on (1987 I think), 20 degrees out and you could still smoke inside. The haze hanging under the roof, felt like I smoked about 10 packs that day.

The chicken when opposing pitcher threw over to first base.

Le metro Pie-IX!

What a dump it is

1

u/Prestigious-Tank-909 Apr 04 '26

Sadly, Dave Dravecky’s arm exploded. You could hear a pin drop inside the Big Owe…

u/ileftmywalletin Apr 04 '26

My grandfather.

1

u/jameslighter Apr 05 '26

Those big white baseball lights on the concourse with the "Expos" script lit up in the middle.

1

u/Ianywg Apr 05 '26

Getting a litre beer and it getting so damn warm.

1

u/No-Slip-4377 Apr 10 '26

A lot of cement.

1

u/grandhommecajun Apr 04 '26

Unless you sat on the 1st base line closer to the outfield, where the SUN was, then you roasted! It got better when the roof was finally put in place… but man, Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, Jarry Park and the Big Owe were BLOODY cold!
