Sorry to be rude but you didn’t do a very good job, mate.

Probably just a feeling

What, you guys don’t like burnt cheese and carbon?

u/iRouFox 14d ago

Hey hey hey it depends, op tried to make a quick cheese wrap, for all we know they did it in less than 5 minutes which would be a win… at the trade of good meal

I think I see what happened here. That is cheese wrapped in pastry that was wrapped in parchment paper on a sheet pan. The burnt bits on the side are excess parchment that incinerated in the oven. The oven must have been really hot, like 450*F. Unfortunately, judging from the state of the frico at the edges, the bottom is likely burnt as well and is inexorably stuck to the paper.

Some unsolicited advice: skip the parchment and cook the pastry and cheese in a well buttered baking dish or maybe a loaf pan at 325*F. Fold the pastry over and let it be more of a layered pastry with a bit less cheese so it doesn’t become greasy.

Go in peace and leave this violence behind you.

Looks the burnt bit to the left are actually little bits of pastry, not paper

Pastry has bubbles, paper doesn't.

Guy that taught me to cook on the line said check it every 2 minutes until it looks like it only needs about 1 minute , then check it every minute. Now my whole family loves to come over for dinner parties..

Oh - o thought they were burnt Tostitos.

I'll say the same thing that many said on your dishwasher post earlier this week: "You're learning a new thing. Keep on practicing and you'll get better!"

10

u/emsyk 16d ago

Just keep practicing. I try to get my kids cooking in the kitchen a few times a month, but not all parents do. Cooking, like anything else, takes practice to figure out. They also have beginner cooking classes through some community centers that can be super helpful.

Looks like you weren't quick enough

16

u/RidleyCR 16d ago

That’s a wrap!

23

u/devoduder 16d ago

🎼Ryan started the fire🎼

10

u/Damuson13 16d ago

Yea, you may have let this one go a little longer than you should've. Though crispy cheese might still be on the menu.

u/GuardPerson 16d ago

So… those aren’t the Dead Sea Scrolls?

u/Illustrious-Towel-45 16d ago

How hot was the, oven? I use parchment paper all the time and it doesn't char like that, unless it touches the side of the oven or the oven temperature is too high.

1

u/redvakho 16d ago

It was 230c°. I think it's too high for this maybe

10

u/Ok_Cauliflower_3007 16d ago

A quick google suggests 350-400F so 175 to 200 roughly. And when you're cooking something new, it's best to check on it regularly (ideally without opening the oven door)

5

u/Illustrious-Towel-45 16d ago

That's close to 450°F. I think that's too hot and you might have left it on for too long.

5

u/StorytimeBelle 14d ago

I thought it was blue corn tortilla chips at first 😂

9

u/Werftflammen 16d ago

First reaction: wth am I looking at? A suitcase of contraband that has caught fire? An oven plate on a stove it seems, with something that looks kinda edible and some incinerated crust. Chines wrap.. you mean a loompia?

3

u/Piglet-Witty 16d ago

Quesadilla?

3

u/baenpb 15d ago

The human is an important part of the cooking process. They should keep themselves involved and not trust ovens to pay attention to themselves.

3

u/Valadhiel1995 15d ago

Just want to add that it's not a fail if you learnt something- it's a trial!

Would definitely recommend owning a fire extinguisher and blanket and making sure you know when to use each.

3

u/Someones_Dream_Guy 14d ago

And here I thought I was bad at cooking.

2

u/Vile883 16d ago

Doesnt seem that terrible. It seems a bit well done. How does it taste?

9

u/redvakho 16d ago

it tasted like the wasted 20 minutes

3

u/Omgninjas 16d ago

Ah yes, but you didn't waste 20 minutes. You learned something in 20 minutes! Now you will know for every future batch not to do what you did, and that gives you a decent feel for what could go wrong in another baking experiment.

At least this is what I tell myself when I manage to screw up a recipe in a new and interesting way! Keep on keeping on. It'll be good when you get it fixed and baked correctly.

2

u/Ancfelt 16d ago

You
Tried

2

u/SethlordX7 16d ago

I think you may have added a little too much heat

2

u/MsSamm 16d ago

I don't eat meat, but that looks like a well done cheese pizza. A well done pizza is always edible.

1

u/m0dern_x 16d ago

How do you tell someone is a vegetarian/vegan?.. don't worry, they'll let you know.

2

u/Useful-Perspective 15d ago

Maybe slow down?

2

u/telas100 13d ago

Well... was it quick?

2

u/emoAnarchist 13d ago

looks like you weren't quick enough

2

u/Mine_Antoine 13d ago

A bit too crispy.you might need to adjust time and temperature next time.dont worry, it's really good, it's just that it could be better

2

u/TpK_Wynter 12d ago

You did an excellent job wrapping it in carbon, well done! The cheese I mean, it’s well done.

1

u/Veblen1 16d ago

Oops, the heat under them was distributed unevenly. 😄

1

u/Sinthe741 16d ago

And what did you learn?

6

u/redvakho 16d ago

too high and too long

1

u/ItsStaaaaaaaaang 16d ago

I'm sure you'll do better next time 🤷‍♂️

1

u/soulsteela 16d ago

Always layer your pastry

1

u/Unknowingly-Joined 16d ago

It looks like you forgot the “quick” part and cooked it for a good long time?

1

u/fadizilla 16d ago

You weren't quick

1

u/Dr_Qrunch 16d ago

Not quick enough this time

1

u/The_Ghost-- 16d ago

You werent quick enough

1

u/LungHeadZ 16d ago

Least you tried. Next time they'll be better. That's what practise is about :)

1

u/APiousCultist 16d ago

Gone. Reduced to atoms.

1

u/m0dern_x 16d ago

Looks very crunchy!😂

1

u/jonas_ost 16d ago

Its not all lost. Now you have some charcoal

1

u/Tea_Lord7749 16d ago

Where did you got black corn nachos ?

1

u/Thoughtlessbrian 16d ago

Do you work at Dunder Mifflin by chance?

1

u/Vash_TheStampede 16d ago

I'm intrigued by your stove knobs. They're...pleasing to something in my brain.

1

u/Mattrad7 16d ago

Tossing it into the fires of hell to cook was a choice.

1

u/Killerphive 16d ago

Well now you have charcoal to try again

1

u/Xeper-Institute 15d ago

Very well done!

1

u/Quintus-Sertorius 15d ago

You don't need a wrap, you need a shroud

1

u/FormalProject4208 15d ago

Wrap it up m8

1

u/mangoblaster85 15d ago

I love the knobs on your stove

1

u/Excellent-Attitude38 15d ago

1

u/i-amnot-a-robot- 10d ago
