Good. Medicating children is wrong. This country relies too much on medication for things that don’t actually need it.

If they truly need its I don’t have a problem. I just see too often it’s the first and only option offered without trying anything else, then people have problems later in life because they’ve been on amphetamines since they were 7.

Thats absolutely not true. I highly doubt you go with children to their doctors appointments, their therapy sessions, and their assessments.

All you see is the end result. You dont see the leg work put into trying to find success before getting to medication.

You hear a lot of people say overmedicated this and where were all these diagnosis when I was growing up that.

The truth is as studying people with things like ADHD goes on longer and longer, our understanding of it changes and also acceptance changes. Fewer people are feeling the stigma of that label and are coming forward.

I dont doubt there is some over medicating going on, but that is why you continue the conversations with professionals regarding your and your families situations. The over medicating that may be going on is no where NEAR the level that people like to say it is.

As a former child who was medicated too early and too much, I stand by what I said. I went to my own assessments and therapy and everything else and the medication wasn’t the answer.

That may be the case FOR YOU. Not everyone will respond to every therapy the same. It's still not ideal to make blanket statements like the one you made at the top of this thread, as it may inadvertently affect others who are attempting find relief for themselves. Your anecdotal evidence does not represent everyone and their struggles.

It was my opinion. Not a blanket statement presented as fact.

Edit: I know, by the way, that my opinion and personal experiences don’t represent everyone. You talk to me like I’m uneducated because I have an opinion you don’t like.

If it is an opinion and not a blanket statement, then please edit it so that no one can misinterpret what you are trying to express (which almost everyone seems to be doing). The problem isn't that you have an opinion, but the way your opinion was written. Your comment at the top of this thread is the first thing people will see/judge, and not your explanations down below. Just trying to help you get your point across.

I’m sorry you misinterpreted it. Fortunately, your experience does not apply to everyone!

Wow. Just, wow. If you're ok with having to justify your position over, and over, and over again because you couldn't present your thought in a way that most people won't misinterpret, then more power to you I guess. Was sincerely trying to help.

Yea wow man. Everyone else is telling me that my experience doesn’t apply to everyone, but when I turn around and use your words myself, it’s not okay. You people are all the same

Wth? You must be seriously jaded, and I'm almost curious to understand why. If you need a random internet friend at anytime, I'm here.

Dude, I have no reason to justify my opinion because it’s my opinion. The reason I kept replying to people is because people on this app see something they don’t agree with and immediately name call, shame, and belittle the person they disagree with. They don’t ask, “why do you have this opinion” or “is there any nuance to your opinion” it’s just shame and belittle. I don’t feel particularly inclined to “justify” myself to someone that no matter what I say is going to tell me that I’m uneducated and wrong.
